ALMOST 10 YEARS AGO, CITY COUNCIL ESTABLISHED A PUBLIC ART PROGRAM, WITH COMMISSIONERS HELPING GUIDE AND OVERSEE THE PROCESS. MCKINNEY'S PUBLIC ART PROGRAM SEEKS TO BUILD THE COMMUNITY IDENTITY. INITIATING ARTWORK, EXPERTS EXPOSITION EXHIBITIONS THAT ENHANCE THE VITALITY OF COMMUNITY. ARTWORK LINDA SENSE OF IDENTITY, CREATING MEMORABLE PLACES AND CONVEYING A SENSE OF CITIZENS. SO THE MILL HOUSE, THE BRICK BUILDING DATES BACK TO 1914, BUT THE CONCRETE ELEVATORS IN THE SILOS THOSE WERE BUILT IN 1927. IN THE 19 THIRTIES. THE MILL WENT FROM FLOWER TO A FEED MILL AND THEN OPERATED THROUGH THE 19 SEVENTIES. THE BUILDING IS ON THE NATIONAL REGISTRY OF HISTORIC PLACES. THE KIND THE CONCRETE SILOS ARE CONTRIBUTING, BUT THE MEADOW SILOS ARE NOT CONTRIBUTING ON DO THIS DESIGNATION DOESN'T HAVE THE SPECIAL SOME OF THE SPECIAL RESTRICTIONS THAT ARE OTHER DESIGNATIONS HAVE THE CITY ACQUIRED THE SILOS IN 2019, BUT ARE YOU SAYING THAT THE I'M SORRY, THE METAL SILOS ARE NOT HISTORICAL. THE DISTRICT BOUNDARIES WERE CREATED TO INCORPORATE SOME OF OUR HISTORIC AREAS EAST ON HIGHWAY FIVE. ASSED PART OF OUR GOALS WITH THE CULTURAL DISTRICT. WE WANTED TOC CELEBRATE OUR DIVERSITY. WE ALSO WANTED TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR MORE PUBLIC ART. SO WITH THE DESIGNATION THERE IS A 50% TOTAL PROJECT GRANT OPPORTUNITY NOT TO EXCEED $250,000 OR 50% OF THE PROJECT.

AND THE GRANT FROM THE TEXAS COMMISSION ON THE ARTS IS MADE IN AN EFFORT TO ATTRACT CULTURAL TOURISTS. SO WHAT IS CULTURAL TOURISM S O THEY? THIS IS A GROUP OF TOURISTS THAT LOVE OPPORTUNITIES FOCUSING ON VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS, ARCHITECTURE, CUISINE AND CRAFT. YOU CAN ALSO SEE JUST KIND OF HOW CULTURAL TOURISTS MIGHT SPEND MONEY AS OPPOSED TO

A REGULAR TRAVELER AND EVERYWHERE THAT GHETTOS HAS HAD PROJECTS. THEY'VE BECOME CULTURAL DESTINATIONS. HE ATTRACTS VISITORS. AND SOCIAL MEDIA AND ALL KINDS OF OTHER GREAT THINGS. SO HERE'S SOME OF OUR OPPORTUNITIES AND RETURN ON INVESTMENT FOR MCKINNEY, YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY THE ARTIST COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROCESS. THIS IS REALLY WHAT SETS THIS ARTIST APART FROM OTHER ARTISTS. IS HE COMES INTO A COMMUNITY WANTING TO UNDERSTAND THE STORIES OF THE COMMUNITY, AND HE TELLS THEM THROUGH ART. YOU KNOW, HE BUILDS THIS PROJECT WOULD BUILD A GEOGRAPHIC CONNECTION AND HELP PROVIDE US WITH A COMMUNITY IDENTITY. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD BE PROUD TO SHARE ON OUR PROMOTIONAL PIECES ABOUT MCKINNEY ON. WE LOVE THIS PART, TOO. THAT IS A CATALYST FOR ADDITIONAL PROJECTS.
