ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, UM AMBER BLOCK. GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS AMBER BLOCK. I LIVE AT 25 48 FM 29 33 HERE IN MCKINNEY. I AM ADDRESSING THE ONGOING SAGA BETWEEN RESIDENTS AND TEXT DOT THAT LIVE ALONG ROUTE, SEE, UM WE'RE VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE SOME INFORMATION THAT IS VERY CRUCIAL. WE BELIEVE TO YOUR DECISION MAKING PROCESS HAS BEEN LEFT OUT. OR. NOT INCLUDED BY TEXT DOT RECENTLY. THIS PER 3 99 SELECTION. HAS BEEN MADE OFFICIAL BY TEXT DOT AND WE FEEL THAT THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO BE AWARE OF IN YOUR CHOICE OF RECEIVED OR ROUTE DE UM I ACTUALLY BROUGHT SOME MAPS THAT SHOW. I'M SORRY. THEY'RE IN TWO SECTIONS COULDN'T PRINT THEM OFF ALTOGETHER THAT SHOW REALIGNMENT OF ROUTE DE THAT IS ACTUALLY MORE BENEFICIAL TO THE CITY OF MCKINNEY AND THEIR UPCOMING AIRPORT PROJECT. THE REASONS FOR THIS IS THAT, UM IT PROVIDES A DIRECT CONNECTION WITH AN INTERCHANGE WHISPERER 3 99. IT'S DESIGNED TO DIRECT TRAFFIC TO THE EAST OF AIRPORT DRIVE, WHICH IS BENEFICIAL FOR YOUR FOURTH PLACES SUCH AS AMAZON AND ENCORE WIRE. WE BELIEVE THIS IS A BETTER DIVERSION OF TRAFFIC TRAFFIC CAN CHOOSE AIRPORT OR THE SPUR IT JUST ALLEVIATES THAT TRAFFIC THERE SO I'M NOT SURE WHY TEXT IS SO BENT ON DESTROYING FAMILIES LIVES WHEN THERE ARE VIABLE ALTERNATIVES ARE ACTUALLY MORE BENEFICIAL TO THE CITY OF MCKINNEY, SO WE APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE LISTENED TO US WE FEEL YOU HAVE LISTENED. UM WE JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE AGAIN THAT ALL OF THE INFORMATION IS ACTUALLY BEING GIVEN TO YOU AND THAT YOU HAVE THE BEST CHANCE OF MAKING AN INFORMED DECISION ON BEHALF OF YOUR TAXPAYERS AND RESIDENTS. SO WE THANK YOU WANT TO? I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT JD.
YOU KNOW, JD, WHO IS AN IMPRESSIVE OH, IT'S ACTUALLY REALLY QUITE QUITE MIND BOGGLING HOW IMPRESSIVE HE IS, YOUNG MAN. I DON'T KNOW HOW OLD HE IS. BUT HE IS TREMENDOUSLY IMPRESSIVE.
ANYWAY HE CAME AND PRESENTED ME A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF INFORMATION WHICH WE THEN FORWARDED TO TEXTILE. AND HE AND I AND A JOINT EMAIL AND THEY ARE REVIEWING AND WE'RE GOING TO COME BACK AND GIVE US FEEDBACK ON THE THINGS THAT HE PUT TOGETHER AND PRESENTED, AND IT WAS, AS I SAID, QUITE EXTENSIVE, QUITE IMPRESSIVE, AND, UH YEAH, THESE MAPS ARE ACTUALLY PUT TOGETHER BY J. D. AND I MEAN THIS WHOLE PROCESS ALL ALONG. JD HAS HAD SO MUCH INFORMATION THAT WE JUST HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET IN FRONT OF TEXT FOR WHATEVER IT IS IN FRONT OF TEXAN NOW. REALLY THANK YOU. AND APPRECIATE THAT. AND JD WANTED ME TO LEAVE THESE MAPS SO YOU COULD LOOK AT HIM. SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT THEM UM BECAUSE LIKE THIS, SO PORTRAIT HELLO THIS JD
[00:15:05]
. I THINK HE'S ABOUT 25, BUT ACTUALLY YOUNGER, BUT I JUST HAVE TO DO A LITTLE SHOUT OUT FOR HIM BECAUSE HE'S HE LIVES IN AUSTIN, AND HE HAS BEEN COMING BACK AND FORTH, LIKE SO INVOLVED AND JUST GIVING UP HERE. YES YEAH, THE EUBANKS LIVE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD DIDN'T THINK I COULD BE MORE IMPRESSED. BUT NOW YOU TELL ME IS COMING UP NOW IS INCREDIBLE, LIKE, FEEL TERRIBLE ABOUT MY EXISTENCE REALLY LUCKY TO HAVE HIM. HIM AND HIS BRAIN IS VERY, VERY, VERY IMPRESSIVE, YOUNG MAN. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. WE WILL MOVE TO OUR REGULAR AGENDA. ITEM ITEMS. FIRST. WE[CONSENT AGENDA]
CONSENT TO GENERAL ITEMS CONSIST OF NON CONTROVERSIAL HOUSEKEEPING ITEMS REQUIRED BY LAW ITEMS MAY BE CONSIDERED INDIVIDUALLY BY ANY COUNCIL MEMBER MAKING SUCH REQUESTS PRIOR TO EMOTION AND VOTE ON THE CONSENT ITEMS. ANY QUESTIONS ANY ADAM? SOMEONE LIKE TO PULL DOWN AND IF NOT, IS THE EMOTION I MAKE A MOTION. WE APPROVE THEM. CONSIDER AGENDA. SECOND PLEASE CAST YOUR VOTES. HE'S NOT UP. ALL IN FAVOR. THERE IT IS. ALL RIGHT. HERE IT IS, UM THAT CONSIDERATION. WE DON'T HAVE ANY PARTS, I GUESS TO CONSIDER. REGULAR GENERAL PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS. THE FIRST ITEM IS 230304 CITIZEN INPUT ON FISCAL YEAR 2023 24 BUDGET SIR. GOOD[Citizen Input on the FY 2023-24 Budget]
EVENING, MAYOR AND COUNCIL. TREVOR DAGON, BUDGET MANAGER. SO TONIGHT IS OUR CITIZEN INPUT ON THE UPCOMING FISCAL YEAR 24 BUDGET UM THIS IS A CHANCE FOR CITIZENS TO KIND OF VOICE THEIR THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS, UM, ON THE BUDGET UPCOMING FOR NEXT FISCAL YEAR, SOMETHING WE'VE KIND OF DONE THE LAST FEW YEARS TO GIVE CITIZENS A CHANCE TO SPEAK ON THIS EARLIER IN THE PROCESS. AS IT DOES TEND TO GET PRETTY HECTIC AND BUSY ONCE WE START GETTING INTO ADOPTION IN AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER. SO SLIDE. Y'ALL ARE PROBABLY PRETTY FAMILIAR WITH. BUT WHEN WE DO LIKE THE SHOW, UM IT'S JUST THE LAYOUT OF OUR BUDGET PROCESS, OF COURSE, ALWAYS STARTS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR WITH THE PLANNING PROCESS, WHICH INCLUDES THE COUNCIL'S GOAL SETTING AND THE ADOPTION OF THE BUDGET GUIDELINES. CURRENTLY WE'RE IN THE MIDST OF TWO OF THESE OF COURSE TONIGHT ARE WE HAVE CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES ACTIVITIES, WHICH INCLUDES THIS IS AN INPUT MEETING. AND THEN ALSO IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DEPARTMENT BUDGET, PART OF THE PROCESS IN WHICH DEPARTMENTS HAVE SUBMITTED THEIR BUDGETS TO THE BUDGET OFFICE, AND WE'RE CURRENTLY REVIEWING THOSE AT THE END OF THAT WE WILL TURN IT OVER TO WHERE IT BECOMES A CITY MANAGER'S BUDGET. CITY MANAGEMENT WILL REVIEW THOSE DEPARTMENT BUDGETS TO PROVIDE AN OVERALL RECOMMENDATION TO COUNSEL AT THE AUGUST 11TH WORK SESSION. ULTIMATELY LEADING TO THE BUDGET ADOPTION IN SEPTEMBER. UM ANOTHER SLIDE. WE DO LIKE THE SHOW. UM BECAUSE WE THINK OF OUR BUDGET AS A THREE PART TOOL. WE SEE IT AS A POLICY TOOL, A MANAGEMENT TOOL IN A COMMUNICATIONS BECAUSE IT PROVIDES INSIGHT TO THE LEVEL OF SERVICE BEING PROVIDED WITH THE AVAILABLE RESOURCES. SO AS I MENTIONED TONIGHT IS OUR CITIZEN INPUT MEETING? UM I'LL BE DONE HERE IN JUST A SECOND STEP ASIDE , AND ANY CITIZENS THAT ARE HERE THAT WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK ON THE UPCOMING BUDGET CAN DO SO. ALSO GOING LIVE TODAY IS AN ONLINE BUDGET EXERCISE. I DO ENCOURAGE OUR CITIZENS TO GO ONLINE AND PARTICIPATE IN THAT EXERCISE, AND IT GIVES THEM A CHANCE TO KIND OF RANK WHAT THEY SEE AS THEIR PRIORITIES FOR THE UPCOMING BUDGET PROVIDE THEIR COMMENTS AS WELL. UM THAT WILL CLOSE ON THE NINTH OF JUNE. AND THEN AFTER THAT, WE WILL PROVIDE THOSE RESULTS TO COUNSEL AT THE WORK SESSION IN AUGUST. AND THEN SO JUST SOME IMPORTANT DATES THAT ARE COMING UP TO KEEP IN MIND. JULY 25TH. WE WILL RECEIVE THE CERTIFIED TAXABLE FROM THE APPRAISAL DISTRICT. AND THAT WILL KIND OF SET IN MOTION EVERYTHING ELSE HERE, UM LISTED AUGUST 1ST AS WE DO EVERY YEAR, WE'LL HAVE OUR TAX RATE RECORD VOTE THAT SETS THE TAX CEILING.UM FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR TAX RATE CEILING. SORRY AND THEN AUGUST 11TH, AS I MENTIONED WILL HAVE THAT BUDGET WORK SESSION. AUGUST 15TH. WE'RE HAVING ANOTHER CITIZEN INPUT MEETING ON THE BUDGET. AND THEN SEPTEMBER 5TH. WE HAVE THE PUBLIC HEARING ON THE TAX RATE. AS WELL AS ANOTHER PUBLIC HEARING ON THE BUDGET. UM AND THEN ALSO SCHEDULED FOR THAT SEPTEMBER.
[00:20:01]
5TH MEETING IS THE ADOPTION OF THE BUDGET AS WELL AS THE TAX RATE ADOPTION. AND WITH THAT I'LL STAND FOR ANY QUESTIONS. IF THERE AREN'T ANY STEP ASIDE, AND MANY CITIZENS THAT ARE HERE THAT WANT TO SPEAK ON THE UPCOMING BUDGET CAN DO SO MANY QUESTIONS FOR TREVOR. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, WILLIAMS. I HAVE YOU LISTEN. MR MAYOR. MR GRIMES. CITY COUNCIL. HOLLOW WORDS.THANK YOU SO MUCH. I APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE MY THOUGHTS. I'VE GOTTEN INTO THEM, BUT I THINK KIND OF EARLY THIS YEAR AND WHEN PREPARING THE 2024 CITY BUDGET. PLEASE INCLUDE OVER 65. SENIOR TAX FREEZE. IT'S HARD TO GO AROUND MCKINNEY AND NOT SEE NEW CONSTRUCTION. YOU SEE? SINGLE FAMILY HOMES. YOU SEE, MULTI FAMILY HOMES, YOU SEE OFFICE NEW OFFICES, SMALL ONES, LARGE ONES. COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS, SMALL ONES, LARGE ONES. YOU SEE A LOT OF RETAIL.
AND BECAUSE OF THAT THESE NEW NEWLY CONSTRUCTED ENTITIES WE'RE YIELD AND BRING A LOT OF ADDITIONAL TAX REVENUE TO THIS CITY. THAT BEING THE CASE WE'RE GOING TO NEED MORE.
INFRASTRUCTURE. WE NEED MORE POLICE FIREMAN ETCETERA, AND I REALIZED THAT, BUT ONE THING OF GOTTEN TO WHERE I REALLY IMPRESSED BY HIS THE FISCAL MANAGEMENT OF THIS CITY. AND.
WITH CONTINUE WITH THE CONTINUED FISCAL MANAGEMENT. I BELIEVE THIS NEW CONSTRUCTION KIND OF BRING A LOT OF ADDITIONAL ONGOING REVENUE. SO FOR MANY OF US SENIORS ARE PEOPLE EARNING YEAR LEARNING EARNING YEARS ARE BEHIND US. THEREFORE, I ASK THAT OUR CURRENT CITY TAXES BEFORE ROSEN. TO THIS YEAR'S LEVEL. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU. A HALF LEFT. BLESSED ARE THE SHORT WINDED, THEY WILL BE ASKED TO SPEAK AGAIN. THANK US. I APPRECIATE IT. ALRIGHT IS THERE I DON'T SHOW ANYONE ELSE HAS SIGNED UP TO SPEAK. BUT IF ANYONE HAS MADE THE TRIP HERE TO

WE HAVE NO REAL OBJECTION TO THIS OTHER THAN I WANT YOU TO BE AWARE THAT THE DEED RESTRICTIONS SAYS THAT'S RESIDENTIAL AND THERE'S A HOME ON THERE. AND, UH, WE HAVE WORKED WITH THE ADJACENT PROPERTY, MOVING IT OUT OF THE DEEP RESTRICTIONS, MAKING IT A PLAN DEVELOPMENT. WHICH WAS APPROACHED ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO, MAYBE THREE. AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE HAVING SOME DISCUSSIONS WITH THE ORGANIZATION ABOUT MAKING SURE THEY'RE HANDLING THE DRYING EACH PROPERLY AND SO ON, BECAUSE THAT'S ACTUALLY GOING TO FEED DOWN THROUGH SOME NEIGHBORHOOD LOTS BEFORE IT ENTERS THE LIKE, AND SO I JUST WANT YOU TO BE AWARE OF THE DANGEROUS TRICK SHINS OR IN CONFLICT WITH THE ZONING, WHICH IS NOT UNUSUAL, BUT I'M GOING TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF THAT. I THINK THAT TELLS YOU A LOT ABOUT YOU, MAYOR WHEN HE HAS A TOWN HALL MEETING W AGAINST HIM, RATHER THAN THE PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPORTING HIM.AND IT SEEMED TO ME TO BE A GREAT EFFORT TO BUILD CONSENSUS AND INFORM THE COMMUNITY ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF THE AIRPORT. KOSOVO AND THESE KIDS TOOK AN INTEREST IN THAT, AND THEY HOSTED A SELF LIKE THE STUDENT RUN. THEY ORGANIZED THE ENTIRE THING THAT THE SPONSORS THERE THEY SERVE FOOD. THEY GREETED EVERYONE AS THEY CAME IN, AND THEY HOSTED A FUNDRAISER TO HELP THE MINE. KOSOVO. I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THIS GROUP. UM THEY WERE VERY WELL ORGANIZED AND HOSTED A VERY ESTEEMED PANEL TO HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT IT. SO I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU TO THOSE YOUNG FOLKS. IT'S THIS TIME OF YEAR WHEN MANY SEEM EAGER TO DAMAGE YOU KNOW REPUTATIONS WITH PATHETIC BARBS AND INNUENDOS. UM THIS IS ONE THING THAT I THAT I HAVE COME TO UNDERSTAND ANGER DOES NOT PERSUADE ANYBODY. WHEN YOU HAVE ANGER IN YOUR IN YOUR HEART HOSTILITY BUILDS NO ONE CONTENTION REALLY NEVER BUILDS. TO ANY SOLUTIONS. AND YET THIS IS HOW MANY HOW HOW PEOPLE WANT TO ACT ON SOCIAL MEDIA. THEY AND SO AS AS YOU GO THROUGH THIS ELECTION PROCESS AND TRY TO WEED THROUGH THE NEGATIVITY, UM. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO REALLY HAVE ALREADY SHOWN AN EFFORT. THEY'RE NOT THE SIDELINE, YOU KNOW, GUY THAT SITS BACK AND HAS NEVER PARTICIPATED. BUT YET HE HAS HE OR SHE HAS ALL THE ANSWERS. AND I LOVE THAT THE GROUP OF CANADA. I LOVE SOME OF THE CANDIDATES THAT WE HAVE JUST BECAUSE I THINK THAT THEY'VE BEEN INVOLVED AND ENGAGED. AND UM, AND SO I THINK THERE'S A FOR ME. IT'S A REAL EASY CHOICE. FOR THOSE WHO, UM ARE RUNNING THIS YEAR AND, UH AND THAT'S ALL I HAVE. MAYOR THAT'S MY BROTHER. UM COUPLE OF THINGS TO MENTION ME F. MCKINNEY EDUCATION FOUNDATION HEAD THERE, UM, SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO WHEN ABLE TO GO, BUT YOUNG GENTLEMAN THAT I'VE KNOWN FOR A LONG TIME WAS ABLE TO GET A SCHOLARSHIP THIS YEAR. IT'S GOING TO ENABLE HIM TO GO TO COLLEGE, FIRST IN HIS FAMILY TO DO THAT, AND SO CONGRATULATIONS TO JAWAN AND ALL OF THOSE WHO GOT SCHOLARSHIPS AND ALL THOSE WHO WILL BE CARRYING ON THEIR EDUCATION IN SUCH A WONDERFUL PROGRAM THAT M E F PUTS TOGETHER TO HELP FUND UM, THE FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY AND OUR CITY. UM LAST WEEK. I ACTUALLY GOT TO ATTEND TO DIFFERENT, UM YES.
COMMUNITY FEEDBACK SESSIONS WANTED NEWSOME HOMES WHERE WE'VE GOT A VERY ACTIVE RESIDENT GROUP THAT ALWAYS WANTS NEW INFORMATION, GOT TO VISIT WITH HIM FOR A WHILE AND THEN WENT OVER TO THE MCKINNEY HISTORIC NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING WITH DR FELTUS, WHERE WE GOT TO TALK ABOUT LOTS OF ISSUES THAT ALL TURNED BACK TO, UM ONE ISSUE, BUT IT WAS A GOOD GOOD MEETING AND IF YOU WERE HERE IN THE FIRST MEETING, DIANE MENTIONED THAT MCKINNEY HISTORIC NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION IS CELEBRATING THEIR 30TH YEAR AS AN ORGANIZATION IN THE CITY. AND SO THAT IS A VOLUNTARY GROUP THAT HAS COME TOGETHER AND ADVOCATED. AND UM, WE'VE TALKED A LOT ABOUT EAST SIDE ASSOCIATIONS AND I ALWAYS POINT TO THEM AS A MODEL TO FOLLOW.
THEY BUILD COMMUNITY FIRST AND THEN DEAL WITH THE ISSUES SECOND, AND THEY DO A GREAT JOB WITH THAT. UM ON FRIDAY NIGHT, DR FELTUS AND MAINLY, AND MR GRIMES AND I ALL GOT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WOODY BORAH PREE RIDE BIZARRE AND SO WHAT THAT IS, IS IT IS A AH EVENT THAT THE HOSTED BY THE MOST USED THAT THAT THEY COME TOGETHER AND THEY PROMOTE THEIR ENTREPRENEURS
[00:40:07]
, SPECIFICALLY THEIR WOMEN AND CHILDREN. ENTREPRENEURS AS THEY PREPARE FOR ED AND SO GOOD THAT PEOPLE THAT THAT THEIR COMMUNITY CAN USE IN THAT CELEBRATION THAT'S UPCOMING. THIS WEEK AND SUCH A WONDERFUL EVENT THIS YEAR IT WAS HOSTED OUTSIDE ON A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT. IT WAS JUST REALLY FUN TO BE THERE AND PARTICIPATE IN THAT. AND THEN ALSO, UM CHARLIE MENTIONED IT.BUT ARTS AND BLOOM WAS ANOTHER WONDERFUL EVENT, AND THERE IS A TON OF WORK PUT IN BY OUR CITY STAFF INTO THAT, AND SO THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS SHOWCASING OUR CITY. IN A VERY POSITIVE WAY. UM . IMAGINE MR GRAHAM'S GOING TO MENTION SOME OF THESE, BUT I WANTED TO MENTION THREE UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES TO ENGAGE AND LET YOUR. OPINION TO BE KNOWN. BUT TOMORROW NIGHT ON THE 19TH, THERE'S A SECOND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT. DISCUSSION OR PRESENTATION THAT WILL HAPPEN.
COCKREL SIX DATE, SO IF YOU MISSED THE FIRST ONE, IT WILL BE A INFORMATIVE PRESENTATION THAT WILL BE ABLE TO ASK QUESTIONS AND GET INFORMATION BACK. THIS SATURDAY ON THE 22ND IS A COMMUNITY CONNECTION FAIR THAT WILL BE HELD IN HOLD SETTLERS THAT FOCUSES ON HOUSING COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT AND OTHER SERVICE PROVIDERS THAT ARE IN THIS COMMUNITY. WILL COME TOGETHER IN THE CITY'S RESOURCES AND TALK ABOUT WHAT OPTIONS ARE OUT THERE AND THEN ON THE 26TH.
WE HAVE A MEETING. HERE IN CITY HALL FOR DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT , SO BASICALLY GET TO COME TO CITY HALL AND GIVE US YOUR OPINION ON WHAT YOU WANT TO DO WITH CITY HALL. SO THAT IS ON THE 26TH. THREE GOOD OPPORTUNITIES FOR FEEDBACK. IF YOU'RE INTERESTED, THAT'S ALL I HAVE. THANK YOU. ON SATURDAY. I GOT TO ATTEND. A GALA FOR THE FAN BLUE LINE. YEAH AND I DON'T KNOW IF ANYBODY KNOWS THIS, BUT ACTUALLY STARTED IN MCKINNEY. THE FIRST TWO YEARS. AND THEN IT'S NOW MOVED DOWN TO ALAN. BUT IN 2018, I WENT TO THIS EVENT. AND IT WAS A GOOD EVENT REALLY GOOD EVENT. THIS ONE WENT OVER THE TOP. IT WAS PHENOMENAL. THEY HONORED ALL THE FALLEN OFFICERS FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR. THEY ACTUALLY HAD A MEDAL OF HONOR WINNER WINNER NAME. MIKE THORNTON. UM, WHO WAS THERE? UM, YOU COULD TELL HE WAS. HE'S GETTING UP THERE IN AGE, BUT HE'S THE ONLY LIVING MEDAL OF HONOR WINNING WINNER. IT'S STILL ALIVE. YEAH AND I CAN TELL YOU IT WAS A GREAT EVENT. EVERYBODY HAD A GREAT TIME. IT WAS A GREAT CEREMONY. THEY HAD THE BAGPIPES AND, UM ALL THE HONOR, YOU KNOW, HONORED ALL THE FALLEN SOLDIERS . I MEAN ALL THE FALLEN LAW ENFORCEMENT. UM IF YOU GET A CHANCE TO GO, THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR, ABOUT THE SAME TIME. AND I'M SURE IT'S GOING TO BE BIGGER THAN BETTER THAN THIS YEAR. THAT'S ALL I HAD. I HAVE THREE THINGS, MR MAYOR, NUMBER ONE. WE DIDN'T DO COUNSELING AS SOME UPDATES, BUT I WENT TO THE JOINT MEETING OF CDC IN THE PARKS BOARD. WHICH IS AN ANNUAL THING IN OUR CDC IS FUNDED BY ONE HALF CENT SALES TAX, AND IT INVESTS IN THE COMMUNITY AND FOR MANY YEARS THEY PUT MILLIONS AND MILLIONS INTO OUR PARK SYSTEM. SO OUR PARKS DIRECTOR MAJKOWSKI WINTERS PLANS FOR THIS NEXT YEAR AND THINGS THAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED IN THE PAST YEAR AND IT WAS JUST A REMARKABLE THING. I'M SURE WE'LL BE SEEING MORE OF THAT. BUT I WANT TO THANK BOTH THOSE BOARDS FOR THE HEAVY LIFTING THEY DO FOR THE MAGNIFICENT PARKS THAT WE HAVE HERE IN MCKINNEY. UM SECOND THING, YOU KNOW, THE MAYOR PRO TEM MINI AND THE CITY MANAGER AND CHIEF ELLENBERGER AND A COUPLE OTHER OFFICERS WERE AT THE IFTAR DINNER AT THE MOSQUE ON EL DORADO LAST WEEK.
JUST REMARKABLE. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT REALLY KIND OF TOOK ME BACK THERE IS A VISITING HIS MOST MOSQUES TO DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR DURING RAMADAN VISITING CHIC, AND THIS GUY WAS A YOUNG GUY AND HE WAS FROM WASHINGTON STATE, AND HE GOT UP AND TALKED TO US AND HE WASN'T FEELING IT THAT HE WAS REALLY LOVING THE SEATTLE AREA, SO I WENT UP AND TALKED TO HIM LATER SAID DO YOU MIND EXPANDING AND HE SAID, YEAH. I REALLY MISS TEXAS AND SO KIND OF DID MY HEART. GOOD TO HEAR HIM SAY THAT. IN THE LAST THING IS WE TALK ABOUT MCKINNEY BEING UNIQUE, AND THIS IS A WAY THAT WE'RE UNIQUE THAT I WISH WE WEREN'T AND THAT IS LAST WEDNESDAY, I WAS AT THE SERENITY HIGH BREAKFAST. SERENITY HIGH IS THE ONLY PUBLIC RECOVERY HIGH SCHOOL THAT I KNOW OF IN THE COUNTRY. I WISH THERE WERE MORE OF THOSE. AH! IT WAS A PROFOUND EVENT, AND I'M FIRST GOING TO CALL HIM OUT. EVEN THOUGH HE HAS NO IDEA THAT I MAYBE EVEN KNOW THIS, BUT THERE WAS A SILENT AUCTION. AND THE KIDS THAT'S REALLY HIGH PAINTED A PAINTING AND I'M NO ART CONNOISSEUR. BUT
[00:45:03]
I WENT BY AND EVERY PAINTING HAD REVEREND TOMMY BROWN MET, YOU KNOW, HAVING BID ON IT, AND SO I'VE BEEN ON ONE BUT THEN THE MAYOR COMES BY AND BIDS OF $1000 ON EACH OF THEM. DON'T TELL ANYBODY AND HE DOES IT. I MEAN, THIS MAN DOES SO MUCH THE NEVER TALKS ABOUT THAT WAS I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MEANINGFUL THAT WAS TO SERENITY. BUT THE OTHER POINT IS ON THAT THERE WAS A YOUNG LADY NAMED CHRISSY WHO GOT UP. SHE'S 25. SHE WAS A HEROIN ADDICT, 14 TO 17. SHE WENT THROUGH HELL. PUT HER FAMILY THROUGH. HELL, UM AND SHE CREDITED SERENITY HIGH AND LOCAL FIVE AND ONE SEE GRACE TO CHANGE WITH HER STILL BEING HERE SHE IS NOW A PHARMACY TECH 25 YEAR OLD MOTHER OF A SINGLE DAUGHTER. UH JUST REMARKABLE STORY OF REDEMPTION. AND THEN ANOTHER LADY GOT UP, VICTORIA. WHOSE DAUGHTER WENT THROUGH BOTH GRACE TO CHANGE AND SERENITY HIGH AND IT COMPELLED HER TO BECOME A LICENSED COUNSELOR HERSELF. SO AH, BOY, THAT IS SOMETHING THAT BECAUSE NEIL AND LYNN SPERRY WITH THE COOPERATION OF THE SD, WITH THE WORK GRACE TO CHANGE HIS SAVED LIVES, IT, MAN. WHEN IS IT EVER BEEN MORE IMPORTANT? I REALLY BELIEVE THIS WITH THIS FENTANYL EPIDEMIC THAT THAT'S THE THING NOW, SO JUST KUDOS TO EVERYBODY INVOLVED IN THAT.THANK YOU, MR MAYOR. MCKINNEY IS HIRING FOR BOTH FULL AND PART TIME POSITIONS. OPEN FULL TIME.
OPEN FULL TIME POSITIONS INCLUDE PUBLIC WORKS, MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS, APPLICATIONS SYSTEM SPECIALISTS, CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES AND MORE. PART TIME AND SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR LIFEGUARDS, DAY CAMP COUNSELORS AND FITNESS SPECIALISTS. YOU CAN FIND OUT MORE IN MCKINNEY, TEXAS DOT ORG FORWARD SLASH JOBS AND THAT'S ALL I ANSWER. WELL UM, SERENITY HIGH WAS VERY MOVING. I. I DID THINK THAT I WOULD GET OUTBID, BUT I DIDN'T ON ANY OF THE NINE PIECES WAS RIBBING. TOMMY, TOO. I WAS I WAS THINKING, BUT YOU KNOW, AND THAT'S THAT WAS OBVIOUSLY UM JUST A PRODUCT OF WHAT THEY DO, RIGHT? WE WERE ALL MOVED EVERYONE THERE WAS SO MOVED AND FROM FROM SEEING THAT AND EXPERIENCING THAT, KNOWING WHAT THEY DO AGAIN, THAT'S A MCKINNEY IS D PROGRAM PIONEER PROGRAM A AN INCREDIBLE ONE OFF PROGRAM THAT HOPEFULLY OTHER CITIES WILL FOLLOW. DISTRICTS WILL FOLLOW SUIT AND DO THAT'S WHY I'M ALWAYS OF COURSE, BRAGGING ABOUT THE MCKINNEY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT THAT I WAS THE OTHER DAY I WAS AT CALDWELL ELEMENTARY. YESTERDAY ACTUALLY SPEAKING TO THEIR CAREER DAY. AND ALL THE 4TH AND 5TH GRADERS AND ONCE EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING TO LISTEN TO THE CAREER CHOICES THAT SOME ARE MAKING AT THIS AGE THAT I'M GUESSING WILL CHANGE. IT WAS THEY GET OLDER, BUT SOME WANT TO BE, YOU KNOW, AN ASTRONAUT AND A PROFESSIONAL GOLFER AT THE SAME TIME. THEY HAD ALL THESE CUTE LITTLE YOU KNOW, BUT THE BUT THE TEACHERS AND THE AND THE AND THE STAFF THERE JUST JUST THE WAY THEY INTERACT WITH THE KIDS AND THE KIDS INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER. IT'S OBVIOUS WHAT A GREAT JOB OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT DOES. AND I'M ALWAYS SO PROUD EVERY TIME I'M INVOLVED IN ANY ANY EVENT ANYWHERE, ANY SCHOOL UM, THE MAINLY HAD A BIRTHDAY AND SHE WAS SO APPRECIATIVE OF SO MANY PEOPLE REACHING OUT AND WISHING HER HAPPY BIRTHDAY. SO ON BEHALF OF HER, I WANT TO SAY THAT SHE WAS VERY, VERY TOUCHED AND MOVED WITH THE WITH ALL THE WELL BIRTHDAY WISHES THAT CAME HER WAY. UM. COLLIN COUNTY WAS NAMED THE HEALTHIEST COUNTY IN TEXAS IF YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT CERTAINLY NOT FROM MY PARTICIPATION. THEY DIDN'T TEST ME. BUT THE OUR COUNTY IS THE HEALTHIEST COUNTY IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. UM THURSDAY WAS ALREADY MENTIONED. I THINK SENIOR REC CENTER PAUL WILL BE SPEAKING ON THE AIRPORT WEDNESDAY WAS MENTIONED COCHRAN HILL 6 TO 8 FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT. I WANT TO THANK ROLANDA MACHARIA WHO, UM BROUGHT US ALL THIS, UH, WONDERFUL LITTLE POUNDCAKE FROM MAMA'S CREATION. RIGHT IT'S AWESOME IF YOU IF YOU HAD IT AND THEN BLUE LINE. YEAH, THAT WAS SO MOVING AND SEE THE WORK THAT THEY DO, AND MENTAL HEALTH AND STEPPING IN AND BEING A RESOURCE FOR THOSE SUFFERING WITH DEPRESSION IN THE LAW ENFORCEMENT. WORLD AND INTERVENING BEFORE THE WORST HAPPENS SO ALL GREAT, UPLIFTING STUFF. MOTION TO ADJOURN. SO MOVED SECOND FAVOR, RIGHT?
