GOOD MORNING. WELCOME TO THE MCKINNEY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION BOARD MEETING. IT IS TUESDAY, NOVEMBER THE 19TH, 2024. AT THIS TIME, I'LL CALL THE MEETING TO ORDER PURSUANT TO THE TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE, SECTION 551002, A QUORUM OF THE CITY COUNCIL MAY BE PRESENT, ALTHOUGH NO COUNCIL ACTION WILL BE TAKEN. THIS MEETING IS BROADCAST LIVE ON CABLE TV THROUGH THE CITY'S WEBSITE ON SPECTRUM CHANNEL 16. AT&T U-VERSE CHANNEL 99, AND ONLINE AT MCKINNEY LEGISLATIVE COMM. WE'RE HAVING SOME TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES THIS MORNING, SO WE'RE GOING TO BE VOTING BY HAND SIGNAL. OUR IBM 386 IS UP HERE. WHATEVER SEEM TO BE WORKING. SO IT'S ELECTRIC.
BUT BUT YOU KNOW DRUSILLA TANDY. YEAH. YOU KNOW, MONTHS AWAY FROM NEW STUFF, THOUGH. MONTHS AWAY.
YEAH. LET'S PUT YOUR. YEAH. PUT HAND SIGNALS, WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO. ALL RIGHT, SO OUR FIRST ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS PUBLIC COMMENTS ON AGENDA ITEMS THAT ARE FOR NON PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS. IS THERE ANYBODY IN THE AUDIENCE WANTS TO ADDRESS THE BOARD ON ANY OF THOSE. ALL
[Presentation by Raytheon]
RIGHT. VERY GOOD. DON'T SEE ANYBODY. SO WE'RE GOING TO GO ON TO AN EXCITING EVENT.INFORMATION SHARING 24 2176. WE HAVE A PRESENTATION BY RAYTHEON. WE HAVE DANA STILLWELL WITH DEVELOPMENT SERVICES RIGHT. THAT'S CORRECT. AND SO YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE THE LEAD ON THIS.
APPRECIATE YOU ALL BEING HERE THIS MORNING. AND THIS IS A GREAT DAY FOR THE CITY OF MCKINNEY. SO COME ON UP. ABSOLUTELY. THANK YOU. CHAIRMAN LOCKMILLER. GOOD MORNING TO THE BOARD. I'M DANA STILLWELL, SENIOR DEVELOPMENT LIAISON WITH THE CITY OF MCKINNEY. I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH MANY OF YOU OVER THE YEARS, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE GOTTEN TO PRESENT TO THIS BOARD, SO I AM DELIGHTED TO BE HERE. I HAVE WORKED WITH MANY RAYTHEON PROJECTS OVER THE YEARS AND THE JUST FROM MY HEART, LET ME SAY, I'M SO THANKFUL FOR RAYTHEON BEING IN MCKINNEY. NOT ONLY FOR THE REVENUE THAT THEY BRING, THE JOBS THAT THEY ADD, BUT THEY ALSO ALWAYS BRING CHALLENGING AND INTERESTING PROJECTS. AND AS SOMEONE THAT WORKS WITH PROJECTS, THOSE ARE THE FUN ONES. THEY'RE DIFFICULT, BUT THEY'RE ALSO THE FUN ONES. SO AGAIN, THANK YOU TO RAYTHEON FOR BEING IN MCKINNEY. BUT TODAY, RAYTHEON ACTUALLY WANTS TO THANK AND CELEBRATE CITY OF MCKINNEY AND ESPECIALLY THE MEDC BOARD. I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU A FEW QUICK FACTS ABOUT THE PROJECT. THESE ARE LITTLE, LITTLE ECCENTRIC THINGS THAT I KIND OF GATHER AS WE GO THROUGH PROJECTS. BUT ACROSS BUILDING ENGINEERING AND FIRE DEPARTMENT, WE HAD A 48 TOTAL PERMITS, AND IT EQUALED JUST UNDER 600 INSPECTIONS OVER THE LIFE OF THE PROJECT. ONE OF THE THINGS I DO IS I GET EMAILS SENT AND RECEIVED AS I COLLECT THOSE IN A FOLDER, AND I KIND OF KEEP TRACK. WE HAD OVER 1100 EMAILS ON THIS PROJECT ALONE. SO BOTH MEDC THIS BOARD AS WELL AS CITY OF MCKINNEY, INCENTIVIZE THIS PROJECT AND SO WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE BOTH OF THOSE AND JUST TO GIVE YOU THE IDEA OF THE SCOPE AND DEPTH AND CHALLENGE OF THIS PROJECT, IT STARTED IN EARLY 2021. RECEIVED FULL CO MID SEPTEMBER OF THIS YEAR. SO ABOUT A THREE AND A HALF YEAR PROJECT. OVERALL CONSTRUCTION VALUE WAS 328 MILLION AND THE TOTAL SQUARE FOOTAGE OF THEIR NEW BUILDING UNDER 500,000. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED, IF YOU'VE BEEN UP WHYTE AVENUE, IS WE GOT AN EXTRA CONNECTION. AND THAT ALLOWS OUR EMERGENCY VEHICLES TO HAVE ACCESS TO THAT SIDE OF THE CAMPUS. AND IT'S ALSO A TRAFFIC RELIEVER FOR THE 380 ENTRANCE AND ALSO THE COMMUNITY ENTRANCE. SO THAT WAS A BIG PLUS FOR THE CITY. WE DO HAVE MEMBERS FROM KDC AND THEIR PRIMARY REPRESENTATIVE AND ALSO RAYTHEON. AND SO I REALLY DID WANT TO INTRODUCE ALL OF THEM. WE'RE GOING TO HAVE SOMEONE FROM KATIE SPEED. KATIE. EXCUSE ME.
SPEAK TO THE PROJECT. BUT WE HAVE FROM KDC BILL GUTHRIE WHO IS SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR LAND DEVELOPMENT. MR. GUTHRIE. THANK YOU. MIKE ROSAMOND EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT FOR DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION. PHILIP SHARP, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION. AND TRACY FRAZIER, VICE PRESIDENT FOR MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS, WHO'S ALSO MY FRIEND AND NEIGHBOR. SO AND FROM RAYTHEON, WE HAVE TREY SCHIAVONE. HE WAS THE SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER FOR CONSTRUCTION. AND WE HAVE KEITH PAVLIK, DIRECTOR OF MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING OPERATIONS AND THE PROGRAM MANAGER FOR WHAT WE CALL PROJECT
[00:05:05]
BLACK. SO, PHIL, WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET UP AND SAY A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE COINS? WELL, PHIL. I ANSWERED, ANY. YEAH. THANK THANK YOU DANA. I WON'T I WON'T TAKE MUCH TIME, BUT I DO APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THE CITY OF MCKINNEY DID STARTING WITH THIS GROUP HERE. AND WE'RE HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE 470 ZERO ZERO ZERO FOOT PROJECT. BUT IT'S ACTUALLY A CONTINUATION OF A PROJECT WE STARTED FOR RAYTHEON IN 2019. THIS IS ACTUALLY PHASE TWO. SO IT'S ANOTHER 180,000FT. THAT'S YOU KNOW, IN ADDITION TO THE THREE AND A HALF YEARS WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR ALMOST SIX YEARS. SO BEEN A GREAT PROJECT WITH THE CITY. AND WE APPRECIATE THE PARTNERSHIP. AND AS DANA MENTIONED, WE EVEN CAME BACK TO THE CITY, YOU KNOW, PARTWAY THROUGH AND ASKED FOR SOME MORE HELP ON THE WHYTE AVENUE. AND THAT WAS PROVIDED AND GREATLY APPRECIATED. SO WE DID AT THE CONCLUSION, WE MADE A LITTLE COMMEMORATIVE COIN. TWO SIDED COIN THAT DANA ALLUDED TO.AND THAT'S WHAT I JUST WANT TO GIVE THAT AS A VERY SMALL TOKEN OF OUR APPRECIATION AND EVERYTHING THE CITY MEANT TO US. YOU WILL SEE RAYTHEON, CCDC AND THE CITY OF MCKINNEY ON HERE.
AND THERE'S A COUPLE OTHER NAMES THAT AREN'T PRESENT WITH US TODAY, BUT WERE CRITICAL. AND THAT'S OUR GENERAL CONTRACTOR, BRASFIELD AND GORRIE AND OUR ARCHITECT, CORRIGAN ASSOCIATES.
SO ANYWAY, THANK THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. IT WAS GREAT WORKING WITH YOU AND DANA'S JUST BEEN AWESOME THE WHOLE TIME. I PROBABLY WORE I WAS PROBABLY A THOUSAND OVER 1100 EMAILS, BUT BUT BUT ANYWAY, I REALLY APPRECIATE HER. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. AND I THANK THE BOARD. WE ALSO WILL DO THIS WITH OUR CITY COUNCIL AND CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE. JUST COULDN'T GET THE SCHEDULING TO GET THIS GROUP TOGETHER. BUT AGAIN AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE FOR TWO PREVIOUS BOARD MEMBERS, ONE OF THESE COINS WE'RE GOING TO SEND WITH MR. KOSKI, AS THEY WERE PART OF THE ORIGINAL APPROVAL OF THAT. AND WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE THEM. BUT THAT'S ALL WE HAVE. AND WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. THANKS. WE'RE GOING TO DO A PHOTO, I GUESS. YEAH. I JUST WANTED TO THANK RAYTHEON. WHILE WE'RE GETTING READY TO DO THE PHOTO. REALLY APPRECIATE YOU HERE. AND I JUST KIND OF ANECDOTALLY, SOME THINGS THAT PEOPLE DON'T TALK ABOUT WITH RAYTHEON IS THEIR INVOLVEMENT WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. AND I KNOW FIRSTHAND BECAUSE IN MY LAWYER LIBERAL ARTS MIND, I HAVE SOMEHOW RAISED TWO ENGINEERS BECAUSE OF THE PROGRAMS THAT THEY HAD THROUGH MCKINNEY ISD AND ALSO PROJECTS THAT THEY DID WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL. RAYTHEON, YOU KNOW, BRINGS KIDS IN AND LETS LETS THEM DO CERTAIN THINGS. SO THAT'S JUST REALLY GREAT THAT YOU GUYS DO THAT, BECAUSE IT CERTAINLY IS HELPING WITH OUR YOUNG KIDS DECIDING TO GO INTO THE FIELD OF ENGINEERING, WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT. SO APPRECIATE THAT.
WE'RE GOING TO DO A PICTURE. SHARE. I DO. YEAH. I GOT YOU. IT WAS ALREADY IN THE WORKS RIGHT? YEAH, ABSOLUTELY. OKAY. ARE YOU BIG ENOUGH TO MAKE. DANA, LET ME PUT YOU ON. LET ME PUT YOU RIGHT BY BRIAN. RIGHT HERE. PERFECT. . BEAUTIFUL. IS THIS THE LIKE, THE OFFICIAL MEDICI CAMERA LOOP? HEY. IPHONE 16 PRO, MAN, YOU'VE SEEN THE COMMERCIALS. THREE. TWO. ONE. ALL RIGHT, GOT IT.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. I'LL SEE. OKAY. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. YOU'RE WELCOME. OF COURSE. YEAH. THANKS. THANKS. THANK YOU. YES. YEAH. GOOD SEEING YOU. SEE YOU. SIR. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. OH, I TELL YOU, YOU'RE SO SILLY. YOU GUYS KNOW THE NAME OF OUR OF OUR. THAT'S RIGHT. WE'RE NOT TOO PROUD OF THAT. HEY, HEY. IT'S NOT TRADEMARKED. APEX CENTER. AND YOU'RE LIKE, WHAT'S GOING ON AROUND HERE? IT'S BAD. IT'S JUST BAD ALL THE WAY AROUND. IT'S JUST. IT'S BREAKING. WHAT'S GOING ON AROUND HERE? KOSKI. OH, YOU KNOW WHAT? CENTER IS SPELLED
[00:10:04]
DIFFERENT. OURS IS R E E R. WE MESSED UP. WE GOT MONEY FOR THA. YEAH, YOU'RE GOING TO. YOU'RE GOING TO KNOW WHERE YOUR BALL I. GO AHEAD. BRIAN. SO HE GETS HE GETS A COUPLE OF. YEAH. YEAH. IS THIS IN YOUR LINE? YEAH. YEAH. IT'S TAKING UP THE ENTIRE LINE. ARE YOU PUTTING THAT IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CUP OR WHAT? SERIOUSLY, THIS IS LIKE, LET ME MARK MY BALL 2 OR 3 MORE TIMES.OH. ON ONE. THAT IS A BALL. YEAH. AROUND HERE. YEAH. CROQUET. YES, EXACTLY. PICK UP YOUR CROQUET BALL. OKAY. WE'RE GOOD TO GO. WE'RE NOT DONE. NO PERCENT. OKAY. NEXT ON OUR
[CONSENT ITEMS]
AGENDA IS CONSENT ITEMS. THIS IS. THESE ARE ITEMS THAT ARE NONCONTROVERSIAL OR HOUSEKEEPING REQUIRED BY LAW. THEY CAN BE CONSIDERED INDIVIDUALLY OR TAKEN AS A GROUP. MY GUESS IS WE ONLY HAVE ONE. OH, NO, WE HAVE TWO. SO WE CAN ACTUALLY TAKE THEM AS A GROUP TODAY. WOULD ANYBODY LIKE TO TAKE THESE INDIVIDUALLY? NO. OKAY. I'D LIKE TO BREAK THEM UP. OKAY. I'LL ENTERTAIN A MOTION ON THE. I MOVE TO APPROVE. I'LL SECOND AS A GROUP. AS A GROUP? AS A GROUP. ALL RIGHT. AND WE'RE APPROVING THE MINUTES OF AUGUST AND OCTOBER. SO ALL IN FAVOR? RAISE YOUR HAN.[Board and Liaison Updates City of McKinney Chamber of Commerce Community Development Corporation Visit McKinney MEDC Committee Updates Board Chairman]
MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY. OKA. NEXT, WE HAVE REPORTS. CITY OF MCKINNEY. WE LOST PAUL, MR. GRIMES. OH, THERE HE IS. YOU SHIFTED THE LOCATIONS ON YOU. WELL, GOOD MORNING, MR. CHAIRMAN. MR. PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. MY NAME IS PAUL GRIMES, CITY MANAGER. A FEW ITEMS TO UPDATE YOU ON THIS MORNING. AS YOU MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE HEARD, KIMBERLY FLOM, OUR ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER, WILL BE LEAVING THE CITY OF MCKINNEY. NOT UNTIL MARCH. SO WE DO HAVE HER UNTIL EARLY MARCH. SHE IS GOING TO BECOME THE CITY MANAGER FOR HER HOMETOWN, IF YOU WILL, OF DE PERE, WISCONSIN. SHE CAME TO US FROM DE PERE. AND SO I REMINDED HER, NOW SHE HAS DUMPED ME TWICE. THIS IS TWICE THAT I'VE BEEN DUMPED BY KIM. AND ANYWAY, WE WILL MISS HER TREMENDOUSLY. SHE'S DONE AN AMAZING JOB. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF PREPARING A NATIONAL SEARCH. WE WILL DO A NATIONAL SEARCH TO REPLACE THAT POSITION. WE WILL HAVE NO SHORTAGE OF GREAT APPLICANTS. I'M CERTAIN OF IT. BUT SHE HAS RAISED THE BAR AND HAS BEEN GREAT, BUT SHE WILL BE AROUND UNTIL EARLY MARCH SO SHE CAN'T GET AWAY. SHE'S GOING TO HELP ME TO SOME EXTENT FIND HER REPLACEMENT SO ANYWAY, THAT IS THAT ANOTHER ITEM TO UPDATE YOU ON IS WHERE I MADE MY NOTES.SO A LITTLE UPDATE ON FESTERING PROJECT THAT'S BEEN ONGOING FOR A WHILE. CIVIL PROJECTS THESE DAYS PRICE IS UP, SERVICE IS DOWN, QUALITY IS DOWN AND TIME TAKES LONGER. UNFORTUNATELY, THAT'S JUST THE NATURE OF CIVIL WORK IN THIS ENVIRONMENT, IN A IN A HIGH GROWTH AREA. AND WE'RE SEEING THAT IN SOME OF OUR PROJECTS. ONE OF THEM IN PARTICULAR, SOME OF YOU ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH IS THE ROUNDABOUTS, LOCATED AT ON WILMOTH AT LAKE FOREST AND WILMOTH AND HARDIN, AS WELL AS SEE WILMA, SEE HARDIN AND LAKE FOREST. SO WE WERE DELAYED BY TEN MONTHS DUE TO FRANCHISE UTILITY DELAYS. WE ARE WHEN THE FRANCHISE UTILITIES, WHEN WE FIND THAT THEY ARE IN THE WAY, THEY'RE ACTUALLY THE CONTRACTORS THAT WE HIRE. THEY STOP THE WOR, DEMOBILIZE UNTIL THAT FRANCHISE UTILITY COMES IN AND REPLACES, THEN THE FRANCHISE UTILITIES HAVE TO GO THROUGH THEIR OWN ENGINEERING AND WORK. AND THEN WHAT HAPPENS IS IT'S A SPECIAL TREAT IS WHEN THEY MISS MARK THEIR STUFF AND THEY REPLACE IT, AND THEN WE FIND OUT THAT THEY PLACED IT STILL IN THE WAY, AND THEY HAVE TO COME BACK OUT AND REDO IT. AND THESE THINGS UNFORTUNATELY HAPPEN. THAT HAS BEEN PART OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE ROUNDABOUTS AT, AT ON WILMOTH THEY WILL BE DONE. THE, THE SINGLE LANE THAT RIGHT NOW THERE'S BEEN THIS FUNKY FOUR WAY STOP AT THESE INTERSECTIONS. NOT LESS THAN IDEAL BUT CERTAINLY, YOU KNOW, ALLOWING TRAFFIC TO GET THROUGH. BUT THE ORIGINAL COMPLETION DATE FOR THE WILMOTH IN LAKE FOREST WAS MARCH OF 24.
WE WILL BE DONE IN JANUARY OF 25, BUT RIGHT NOW WHAT YOU'RE SEEING IS THE SINGLE LANES ARE OPENING UP THE SINGLE THROUGH LANES ON THE ROUNDABOUT WHILE THEY'RE DOING WORK IN THE CENTER PART OF THE ROUNDABOUT AND ON THE APRON OF THE ROUNDABOUT. SO THE ROUNDABOUT FUNCTION WILL BE STARTED IN NOVEMBER, AND THEN THEY SHOULD BE COMPLETED AGAIN IN EARLY IN JANUARY. SO WE APPRECIATE THE COMMUNITY'S PATIENCE. IT'S FRUSTRATING, BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS THE ROUNDABOUT, THE QUALITY OF THE TRAFFIC FLOWS, THE THROUGHPUT WILL BE SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER THAN THE ALTERNATIVE. IT'LL BE MUCH SAFER. AND THE PAIN THE FORTUNATELY, THE PAIN OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION HAS A SHORT HALF LIFE. SO IT'LL FADE AND WE'LL BE WE'LL BE MOVING ON. NEXT ITEM I WANTED TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION IS OUR ANNUAL POPULATION ESTIMATE. OUR
[00:15:05]
POPULATION ESTIMATE AS OF NOVEMBER 1ST IS 222,441, 222,441, AND THEN FINALLY TONIGHT AT THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING, THE AMPHITHEATER PROJECT FOR KNOWN AS VENUE. THEY ARE BRINGING THEIR SITE PLAN FOR APPROVAL TONIGHT. CITY COUNCIL WILL BE HEARING THAT OR IT'S NOT A PUBLIC HEARING. IT'S JUST AN APPROVAL. BUT THEY WILL BE THAT ITEM WILL BE BEFORE THE CITY COUNCIL TONIGHT. SITE PLAN. IF YOU WANT TO TUNE IN AND TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT GENERALLY THE SITE PLAN IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE, IT MIGHT BE OF YOUR INTEREST. SO I WILL STAND FOR ANY QUESTIONS.QUESTIONS I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT KIM HAS BEEN A DELIGHT TO WORK WITH KIM. KIM FROM OH, SHE'S ALREADY DEAD TO PAUL NOW I DON'T EVEN KNOW HER AND MY FATHER WAS FROM DE PERE, WISCONSIN. IS THAT RIGHT? BEAUTIFUL LITTLE TOWN. OH, GREAT. SO SHE'S VERY SMART TO BE LEAVING AND EVEN SMARTER. IF YOU'VE EVER BEEN TO BEER, YOU DON'T WANT TO BE IN DE BEER DURING THE WINTER. SO STARTING IN MARCH IS A REALLY GOOD IDEA. DEYES. GREAT COMMENT. ANYWAY, IM JUST CONCERNED THAT YOU'VE LOST HER TWICE. YES, I KNOW EXACTLY. I'VE HAD THE SAME CONVERSATION WITH HER SO MAYBE WE'LL HAVE TO HAVE THIS. YOU GUYS CAN TALK TO HER, TALK SOME SENSE INTO HER.
WE GOT TILL MARCH. THAT'S RIGHT. OKAY. THANK YOU SIR. LISA, CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. GOOD MORNING. GOOD MORNING. GOOD MORNING. CHAIR, BOARD PRESIDENT A COUPLE OF THINGS I WANTED TO UPDATE YOU ON DECEMBER 3RD IS OUR NEXT BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT UPDATE, WHERE WE PARTNER WITH MCKINNEY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. THE TOPIC IS THE INNOVATION ADVANTAGE STARTUPS, AI, AND THE FUTURE OF MCKINNEY'S BUSINESS COMMUNITY. SO PRESIDENT MIKE KOSKI WILL BE EMCEEING THE EVENT. WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A PANEL OF SPEAKERS, EVERYTHING FROM STARTUPS TO ESTABLISHED, MORE TRADITIONAL COMPANIES THAT HAVE IMPLEMENTED PROGRAMS LIKE AI TO HELP CREATE MORE EFFICIENCIES. SO I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE QUITE INTERESTING. WE'RE GOING TO KIND OF TAKE THE PLUG AND PLAY MODEL AND CONDENSE IT DOWN, SO IT'S NOT QUITE AS LONG OF AN EVENT, BUT REALLY SHOW OUR BUSINESSES WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE, TO SEE PITCHES AS WELL AS HAVE REALLY A GREAT CONVERSATION REGARDING INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY. SO LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING ALL OF YOU THERE. DECEMBER 3RD FROM 8 TO 930. IT'S GOING TO BE AT THE ENCORE WIRE CAMPUS, SO ALL THAT INFORMATION IS ON OUR WEBSITE. AND THEN A VERY EXCITING NEW PROGRAM WE'RE STARTING IS A MASTERMIND GROUP. SO A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THAN COMING IN AND BUILDING WORKSHOPS. WE'VE HIRED A FACILITATOR WHO WILL HELP COMPANIES COME IN MORE FROM YOUR SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZED BUSINESSES SO THAT THEY CAN HELP SOLVE PROBLEMS WITH EACH OTHER SO THEY CAN BRING THEIR CHALLENGES AND THEN BE ABLE TO TALK WITH OTHER BUSINESS OWNERS ABOUT SOLUTIONS OF HOW THEY CAN ADDRESS THOSE THINGS AND OF COURSE, WE'LL BRING IN OUR FACILITATOR WILL BRING IN SOME MORE CONTENT AND KIND OF ROUND ALL THAT CONVERSATION OUT. BUT WE'RE EXCITED TO START JUST A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT OF A PROGRAM THAT WE THINK WILL HELP BENEFIT BUSINESSES AND IS KIND OF A NEW OFFERING IN OUR IN OUR TOOL, JUST A NEW TOOL IN OUR TOOLBOX. AND THEN LAST BUT NOT LEAST, DECEMBER 10TH IS OUR HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE. EVERYBODY IS WELCOME TO COME. WE'VE ALREADY HAVE ABOUT 200 PEOPLE REGISTERED, SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO REGISTER TO COME. IT JUST HELPS US WITH THE FOOD COUNT. IT'S OPEN TO ANYONE FROM 4 TO 6 P.M. AT THE CHAMBER OFFICE WILL BE IN THE DOWNSTAIRS LOBBY AREA BECAUSE IT'S MORE ACCOMMODATING FOR SPACE, BUT WE'D LOVE TO SEE YOU THERE. AND WITH THAT, I'LL STAND FOR ANY QUESTIONS. QUESTIONS? OH. ALL RIGHT. WELL, THANK YOU VERY MUC.
THANK YOU. SEE YOU ON THE THIRD. ALL RIGHT. OKAY. WE'LL GO TO VISIT MCKINNEY. AARON, HOW ARE YOU THIS MORNING? GOOD MORNING, MR. CHAIR. MR. PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, I APOLOGIZE FOR MY VOICE. LOST IT. I KNOW YOU'RE USED TO MY DEEP, BOOMING RADIO VOICE. IT'S NOT HERE TODAY. THIS PAST WEEK WAS A REALLY GREAT WEEK FOR US IN MCKINNEY. WITH OUR TEAM. WE WERE ABLE TO HOST THE TO CVB, WHICH IS ONE OF OUR STATE ASSOCIATIONS FOR WHAT WE DO IN TOURISM. WE HOSTED THEIR BOARD RETREAT AND THE REGIONAL ROUNDTABLE. IT JUST HAPPENED TO BE THAT WE ALREADY HAD OUR BOARD DINNER SCHEDULED AT HARVEST, THE TWO DAYS AFTER THE MICHELIN RECOGNITION CAME OUT. AND SO WE HAD CHEF DRES DINING ROOM WITH PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE STATE, DMO PRESIDENTS AND DIRECTORS FROM LARGE CITIES, HOUSTON, AUSTIN, BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION AND TO OTHER PARTS OF THE STATE AND THEY ALL WALKED AWAY TALKING ABOUT HOW THERE'S A REASON WHY THAT RESTAURANT WAS
[00:20:01]
RECOGNIZED AS A MICHELIN RECOMMENDED RESTAURANT. IT WAS THE SERVICE RICK POPPING BY TO DO HIS THING. THE FOOD, EVERYTHING WAS, WAS PHENOMENAL. AND SO THAT KUDOS TO RICK. I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT PUBLICL. THAT'S GOING TO BE A MASSIVE THING FOR US FROM A TOURISM STANDPOINT, AS WELL. IF YOU LOOK AT THAT MAP, THERE'S A LITTLE STAR IN NORTH TEXAS, AND IT'S GOING TO DRIVE PEOPLE UP HERE TO COME AND EAT. AND SO A GREAT EVENT, A GREAT EXPERIENCE FOR ME TO HOST MY FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS AND THEN THE NEXT DAY WE HAD OUR ROUNDTABLE WHERE PRESIDENT KOSKI JOINED ME FOR THE LAST SESSION OF THAT. AND WE DID A ONE HOUR TALK ON THE IMPORTANCE OF EDCS AND DMOS OR TOURISM PARTNERING TOGETHER FOR WHAT WE DO IN OUR COMMUNITIES. AGAIN, WE HAD ABOUT 30 PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE STATE THAT WERE IN ATTENDANCE AND A LOT OF QUESTIONS. AND SO JUST WANT TO SAY THAT WHAT WE HAVE IN MCKINNEY IS SPECIAL. AND IT COMES DOWN TO OUR ABILITY TO COLLABORATE BETWEEN DEPARTMENTS AND WORK TOGETHER. AND SO I WAS REALLY PROUD OF THAT. AND HE MIGHT EVEN BE JOINING ME FOR A WINTER CONFERENCE IN JANUARY TO SPEAK TO SEVERAL HUNDRED OF OUR DMO REPRESENTATIVES. AND SO THANK YOU, PRESIDENT KOSKI. AND WHERE IS THAT AT? AARON. THAT'S IN WACO. WACO, WACO, NOT A BEACH FRONT. YEP, YEP. YOU'RE WELCOME TO COME DOWN. BUT I'LL LEAVE THAT UP TO YOU. YEAH. AND THEN THAT LED INTO THE WEEKEND WHERE WE HOSTED THE BILLIE JEAN KING CUP TENNIS MATCH OVER AT THE COURTS OF MCKINNEY, A ONCE IN A LIFETIME EVENT. WELL MAYBE NOT.MAYBE WE'LL DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT AGAIN. BUT IT WAS. IT WAS INCREDIBLE. WE HAD A DINNER AT THE GRAND HOTEL BALLROOM A COUPLE OF NIGHTS BEFORE THE EVENT, WITH THE TWO TEAMS IN ATTENDANCE. THERE WERE A LOT OF THERE WERE MORE ACCENTS IN THAT ROOM, IN THAT SMALL ROOM THAN I THINK I'VE EVER BEEN A PART OF. IN MCKINNEY, TEXAS. BUT NOT ONLY THAT, YOU HAD TOP TENNIS PLAYERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. TOP, TOP TEN PLAYERS IN ATTENDANCE, AND THEN THE EVENT WENT FLAWLESSLY THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND. UKRAINE ENDED UP WINNING THE ENTIRE TOURNAMENT. THEY WERE DOWN 2 TO 1 AFTER THE FIRST DAY, AND THEY CAME BACK ON THE SECOND DAY AND PULLED IT OUT. BUT THAT EVENT WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT EXTREME COLLABORATION BETWEEN CITY OF MCKINNEY DEPARTMENTS.
THERE WERE A LOT OF LAST MINUTE THINGS THAT HAD TO COME TOGETHER, AND IF WE DIDN'T HAVE A CITY THAT COULD WORK TOGETHER AND COME UP WITH CREATIVE OPTIONS AND SOLUTIONS AT THE LAST MINUTE, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO TENNIS MATCH LAST WEEKEND. AND SO KUDOS TO EVERYONE THAT THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE THAT JUMPED IN AND GOT INVOLVED. NOW WE'RE FULL STEAM AHEAD TO D2. THE D2 GAME FOR FOOTBALL IS COMING UP ON DECEMBER 21ST, SO WE'RE WORKING WITH OUR COMMITTEE ON THAT. I SAW COUNCILMAN BELLER IN THE BACK OF THE ROOM. HIS TEAM, HARDING IS THEY ARE IN THE RUNNING, BUT THEY'VE GOT A TOUGH ROAD THIS YEAR TO MAKE IT BACK.
SO WE'LL SEE. WE'LL SEE. WE'RE WATCHING AND ROOTING THEM ON. BUT WE'LL SEE WHO COMES TO MCKINNEY THIS YEAR. AND LASTLY, ON THE HOTEL FRONT, IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW IT OR DIDN'T SEE ONLINE, THE DENIZEN HOTEL IS OFFICIALLY OPEN. THEY OPENED MID LAST WEEK. THEIR STAFF IS FULLY IN PLACE AND THEY HAD THEIR FIRST FEW GUESTS. SO OUR TEAM WENT OVER AND WELCOMED THEM ON THEIR FIRST DAY, AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING THEM IN OUR PIPELINE FOR FUTURE STUFF.
THAT'S ALL I HAVE. ANY QUESTIONS? I JUST WANT TO PUBLICLY SAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK. I MEAN, YOU DO EFFORTLESS THINGS AND YOU DO GREAT THINGS WITHIN THE CITY OF MCKINNEY. AND SO IT IS RECOGNIZED AGAIN TO COLLABORATE. IT TAKES EVERYBODY TO COLLABORATE. AND YOU'VE DONE YOU'VE BEEN A CATALYST IN THAT. SO THANK YOU. APPRECIATE IT. YEAH. YEAH. MY WIFE WENT TO THE TENNIS BOTH DAYS. SO IT WAS FANTASTIC. YEAH. AND YOUR QUOTES AND THE MAYOR'S QUOTES IN THE PAPER WERE REALLY REALLY GOOD AS WELL. SO YEAH, THEY WENT TO THEY MADE IT. THEY WERE LOCAL PAPERS OBVIOUSLY, BUT THEN THEY MADE IT AS FAR AS LIKE THE WALL STREET JOURNAL AND THE ASSOCIATED PRESS AND, AND THEN SEVERAL INTERNATIONAL ARTICLES AFTER THAT. SO I ACTUALLY HAD SOMEONE AT WORK ASKED ME HOW IN THE WORLD, YOU KNOW, THEY FOUND MCKINNEY, TEXAS, FOR THAT. AND I SAID, WE'RE JUST THAT GOOD. THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY. THAT'S IT RIGHT THERE. THANK YOU GUYS. ALL RIGHT. ALL RIGHT. MEDC COMMITTEE UPDATES INNOVATION REVERSING THE YEAH, THAT THREW THAT THREW EVERYBODY OFF I KNOW I JUST KIND OF MESS IT UP A LITTLE BIT. NOTHING ON INNOVATION. WE HAD AN AMAZING PLUG AND PLAY ROUND TWO FOR I REALLY REALLY SOLID. MET AT THE COLLIN COLLEGE CONFERENCE CENTER, WHICH IS A GREAT VENUE. HAD, I DON'T KNOW, 150 ATTENDEES, I WOULD GUESS HIGH QUALITY COMPANIES VENTURE CAPITALISTS, LOTS OF INTERACTION. IT WAS IT WAS A REALLY WELL PUT TOGETHER, AWESOME. OKAY, I'LL GO TO MARKETING. WE DIDN'T MEET. NO WE DIDN'T. WE DID NOT MEET THIS MONTH. WE'LL MEET NEXT MONTH.
BUT I DO WANT TO ENCOURAGE EVERYBODY. IF YOU HAVEN'T LISTENED TO IT, CHECK OUT THIS.
THE LATEST MCKINNEY MOMENTUM WITH MAVERICK POWER. IT'S REALLY A GREAT STORY ABOUT A COMPANY
[00:25:04]
HERE IN MCKINNEY. AWESOME. YEAH, REAL ESTATE. WE DID MEET AND WE HAVE SEVERAL ITEMS IN EXECUTIVE SESSION. SO FINANCE WE MET YESTERDAY AND YOU WILL HEAR MORE ABOUT OUR MEETING IN EXECUTIVE SESSION TODAY OKAY. GOVERNANCE. WE DID NOT MEET I COULD GO AHEAD AND DO THIS RIGHT NOW THOUGH.YEAH. SO I HAD A MEETING WITH MR. KOWSKI THIS WEEKEND JUST TO GO OVER A FEW THINGS ON THE CURRENT COMMITTEES SUGGESTING JUST TWO CHANGES, JUST MIXING THINGS UP A LITTLE BIT, MOVING MATT, TO FINANCE AND SCOTT TO INNOVATION. EVERYTHING ELSE REMAINS WHERE WE WERE BEFORE. SO THAT'S AND THEN WE ALSO MET A LITTLE BIT ON I THINK YOU'LL PROBABLY TALK ABOUT KPIS AND THINGS LIKE THAT RIGHT AT SOME POINT. CORRECT. SO AT THE NEXT MEETING WE'LL PRESENT THE KPIS FOR OUR DIVISION OR ORGANIZATION AND GET FORMAL APPROVAL OF THOS. YEAH. SO WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT AS WELL, JUST TO KIND OF KEEP THINGS FLOWING HERE FOR THE BOARD. SO THAT'S ALL I HAVE
[Consider/Discuss MEDC Monthly Reports]
AND THAT'LL TAKE CARE OF MY BOARD. COMMENT. CHAIRMAN COMMENTS. AS WELL. SO WE CAN MOVE RIGHT ON TO 24 2180 MONTHLY REPORTS. YEAH, I'LL ASK SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT MR. MICHAEL TALLEY TO SPEAK ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION. MICHAEL, CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG HERE. YOU'LL BE IN SALT LAKE CITY THIS WEEK COMING UP. THAT'S RIGHT. IS THERE SOMETHING SPECIAL HAPPENING AT THAT EVENT, PERHAPS? I MEAN, YOU CAN TALK ABOUT IT, I DON'T KNOW. SO AS YOU RECALL, MICHAEL WAS RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE TOP 50 ECONOMIC DEVELOPERS IN THE COUNTRY. SO AT THAT EVENT, THERE'LL BE A FORMAL ADMISSION. THANK YOU. YEAH, THOSE ARE MORE A FORMAL PRESENTATION AT THE EVENT. SO LUKE AND MADISON WILL BE JOINING US AS A CONSULTANTS EVENT, BUT THEY'LL BE HONORING THE TOP 50 AWARDEES AT THAT EVENT. SO MAKE SURE YOU BRING YOUR HAT. YEAH, THEY'LL BE COMING BACK RIGHT. I'LL BE COMING BACK. YES. NOT MOVING.NOT MOVING TO WISCONSIN. CAN'T DO WINTER MORE THAN A WEEK. GOOD MORNING, BOARD CHAIR. MR. PRESIDENT, I JUST WANT TO COVER PROJECTS REAL QUICK AS WE MAY. 24 PROJECTS, 14 TRADITIONAL TEN ON THE INNOVATION SIDE, AS MR. KOSKI SAID, A LITTLE BIT OF TRAVEL HERE. WE'LL WE'LL BE GETTING YOU A REPORT ON SMART CITIES OUT IN BARCELONA. REALLY GOOD TRIP WITH THREE OF THE CITY DEPARTMENT HEADS, AS WELL AS THREE OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TEAM MEMBERS. WE DID ATTEND LISBON WEB SUMMIT, WHERE WE DID A MORE FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE 50 TO $200,000 BUMP ON THE INNOVATION FUND. SO THAT, AGAIN, THAT WEB SUMMIT, IF YOU DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO CHECK IT OUT AT THEIR WEBSITE, THERE'S ABOUT 72,000 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE THIS YEAR.
THAT'S THE LARGEST STARTUP CONFERENCE IN THE WORLD AT THIS POINT. AND THEN THIS WEEK, MR. KOSKI. MR. WILKES WILL BE HEADED TO THE PLUG AND PLAY SUMMIT IN SILICON VALLEY. MR. WILKES IS ALREADY OUT THERE. AND THEN WE'LL HAVE LUKE, MYSELF AND MADISON AT ECONOMICS IN SALT LAKE CITY THROUGH THE REST OF THE WEEK FOR THE SITE CONSULTANTS EVENT. SO HAPPY TO STAND FOR ANY QUESTIONS. QUESTIONS. CONGRATULATIONS. THANK YOU SO MUCH. APPRECIATE THAT. YES. OH LOOKS GOOD. SILICON VALLEY. AND YOU GET WAC. THERE. THAT'S RIGHT. THAT'S GOOD. OH WHAT A SERVANT LEADER YOU ARE. THAT'S THAT'S THAT'S SERVANT LEADER. THAT'S LEADERSHIP. ALL RIGHT. ALL IN RECORD TO THIS IS GREAT. YEAH. VERY GOOD. THAT'S WHY WE'RE HER.
SO I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE MR. LUCAS, OUR MANAGER OF MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA, COME UP AND SPEAK ABOUT WHAT'S HAPPENING ON THE VIRTUAL FRONT. YES. GOOD MORNING, MR. CHAIRMAN. MR. PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, LUKE GAJARI, MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER HERE AT THE MEDC, HONORED TO BE PRESENTING A FEW THINGS. YOU CAN SEE THE DATA HERE ON OUR WEB ANALYTICS AND SOME OTHER PROJECTS INFORMATION AS WELL. AND THERE IS SOME INFORMATION FORTHCOMING ABOUT OUR RECENT CAMPAIGNS. WE LAYERED IN SOME STRATEGY OVER THE BARCELONA SMART CITIES TRIP AND THE WEB SUMMIT IN LISBON, PORTUGAL. AND SO THERE'LL BE SOME INTERESTING DATA REVEALED ABOUT THAT. SHORTLY. YOU'LL SEE AN UPDATE FROM PRESIDENT KOSKI REGARDING THAT TRIP, AND SOME LAYERS OF OUR DIGITAL MARKETING THAT HAPPENED ALONGSIDE THAT IN THE NFL THIS WEEKEND. WATCHING WITH MY SON, I HEARD AN INTERESTING STATISTIC, THAT STATISTIC THAT BEARS REPEATING THAT IN 2024, THE NFL SEASON, IN 11 WEEKS, THERE HAVE BEEN A RECORD NUMBER OF 56 YARD OR LONGER FIELD GOAL ATTEMPTS OR KICKS THAT THERE'S BEEN MORE 56 YARD OR LONGER KICKS HAPPENING IN THE NFL AS A WHOLE THIS SEASON. THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED BEFORE, AND WE'RE ONLY IN WEEK 11. IN 2004, 20 YEARS AGO, THE AMOUNT OF 56 OR MORE YARD KICKS WAS ZERO. SO THERE'S SOMETHING HAPPENING IN THE NFL AND KICKERS THAT THE COMMENTATORS WERE ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THERE'S A NEW GROUND BEING BROKEN, THERE'S NEW BOUNDARIES BEING ESTABLISHED, THERE'S RECORDS BEING SHATTERED.
[00:30:01]
WE SAW THIS WITH THE FOUR MINUTE MILE, YOU KNOW, YEARS AGO. AND SO THIS IS HAPPENING IN THE NFL RIGHT NOW. AND I WOULD PROPOSE TO YOU TODAY THAT SOMETHING SIMILAR IS HAPPENING IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT THAT THE CITY OF MCKINNEY IS PIONEERING NEW GROUND AND MAKING DIFFERENT THINGS HAPPEN. AND THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AWARD FOR THE TOP 50 IN THE COUNTRY IS HAPPENING WITH MICHAEL TALLEY. WELL DESERVED. THESE ARE OUR JORDAN AND PIPPEN. TO CROSS SPORTS METAPHORS A LITTLE BIT, MIKE BUKOWSKI AND MICHAEL TALLEY ARE WITHOUT A DOUBT SOME OF THE BEST LEADERS IN THE INDUSTRY AND ARE BEING ACKNOWLEDGED ON THE WORLD STAGE. AND IT'S COOL TO SEE HAPPEN AND BE A PART OF THE TEAM IN A PART OF THAT TEAM BUILDING EFFORT. I WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT THIS MORNING AND INTRODUCE YOU, TO INTRODUCE YOU TO THE NEWEST MEMBER OF OUR TEAM. UNLIKE JERRY JONES, OUR STAFF IS DOING AN AWESOME JOB OF BUILDING AN AWESOME TEAM. AND SO I WANT TO INTRODUCE YOU THIS MORNING TO SHANNON ROBERTS. SHE IS OUR NEW EVENTS AND MARKETING COORDINATOR, AND SHE WILL BE HELPING US ELEVATE EVERYTHING FROM THE BYRON NELSON TO OUR HOLIDAY PARTY. SHE HAILS FROM FAIRVIEW, TEXAS. RUNNING CURRENTLY LIVES IN RICHARDSON, BUT WORKED FOR THE CITY OF FAIRVIEW WORKING WITH THEIR EDC UNDER RAY DUNLAP. THANK YOU. DID SOME WORK IN TEMPLE. WORKED FOR THE CITY OF MESQUITE, CITY OF ALLEN IN PARKS AND REC AND SO JUST HAS A LOT OF PASSION FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT. BRINGS A WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE NOT ONLY IN EVENT MANAGEMENT, BUT ALSO IN MARKETING AND PRINT COLLATERAL, AND IS GOING TO ADD ANOTHER LAYER TO OUR INCREDIBLE TEAM. AND WE'RE GOING TO KICK SOME MORE 56 YARD PLUS FIELD GOALS TOGETHER. SO WITH THAT, I'LL STAND FOR ANY QUESTIONS. I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO PREDICT THAT THE DETROIT LIONS WERE GOING TO WIN THE SUPER BOWL. WHEN YOU WERE GOING, I'M GOING TO MAKE ZERO PREDICTIONS ON RECORD. BUT IT IS FUN, FUN TEAM TO WATCH, RIGHT? I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO TALK ABOUT HOW THE COWBOYS HAVE LED FOR TWO MINUTES AND 59 SECONDS TOTAL OVER 11 WEEKS. THAT'S A MORE DEPRESSING STATISTIC. I'M GOING TO FOCUS ON POSITIVE THINGS TODAY THAT THE ROOF IS FALLING. OH NO. OH WELL, IT COULD BE ONE MINUTE. SO YEAH, IT'S POSITIVE THAT THEY MADE TWO MINUTES. THERE WE GO. COULD HAVE BEEN HALF THAT RIGHT. YES, EXACTLY.THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. THANK YOU. WELCOME. WELCOME TO THE EDC TO THE BEST EDC SCOTTIE AND JORDAN. YEAH. HOW ABOUT THAT? REALLY.
