AND SO WE PRESENTED THEM WITH THREE ISSUES THAT THEY WOULD HAVE SOME SORT OF A CONNECTION TO ISSUES LIKE SCHOOL UNIFORMS OR AN EXTENDED LUNCH PERIOD, OR BRINGING RECESS TO MIDDLE SCHOOL. AND THEIR OPINIONS WERE VAST AND ALL OVER THE SPECTRUM, KIND OF SURPRISING SOME OF THEIR OPINIONS. SO ONCE THEY HAD DEVELOPED THOSE OPINIONS, THEY GOT TO SHARE THOSE OPINIONS. WHEN OUR AMAZING CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS CAME AND SPENT THE DAY IN A MOCK CITY COUNCIL SITUATION WITH EACH ONE OF OUR CLASS PERIODS, ENGAGING THEM AND TAKING THEM THROUGH THE ENTIRE PROCESS THAT YOU'RE ALL HERE TONIGHT EXPERIENCING. SO THEY WERE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE THAT WITH THE POLICIES THAT WE HAD PUT IN FRONT OF THEM. AFTER THAT DAY. WE DIDN'T END OUR LESSON CYCLE THERE. WE TOOK IT BACK TO OUR CLASSROOM WHERE THEY TOOK THOSE SAME POLICIES, AND WE PRESENTED THEM WITH AI GENERATED CANDIDATES FOR A STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT, AND THEY HAD TO ENDORSE A CANDIDATE AND CAMPAIGN FOR THAT CANDIDATE. WE ACTUALLY GAVE THEM VOTER REGISTRATION CARDS, AND THEY REGISTERED TO VOTE AND THEN VOTED FOR THEIR CHOSEN CANDIDATE, RECEIVED THEIR I VOTERS I VOTED STICKER, WHICH A LOT OF THEM HAVE ON THEIR STUDENT IDS STILL. AND THEN AFTER THE ELECTION, THEY EVEN TABULATED AND VALIDATED THOSE VOTES. SO WE WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE AS A SEVENTH GRADE, WHO WON OUR MOCK ELECTION. IT WAS A GREAT GROUP OF FOLKS, BUT WE GOT A NICE UPDATE ON ALL THINGS RELATED TO WATER, WHICH IS A VERY COMPLEX AND HUGE PROBLEM THAT WE REALLY HAVE TO KEEP OUR EYE ON, BUT WANTED TO THANK OUR REPRESENTATIVES FROM MCKINNEY WHO SERVE ON THAT BOARD AND GIVE OF THEIR TIME THERE. AND THEN JUST LASTLY, THIS IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH. IT IS KIND OF A MORE QUIET BLACK HISTORY MONTH FROM THE BLACK HISTORY MONTH COMMITTEE HERE IN MCKINNEY. BUT WE DO HAVE A FEW EVENTS ON THE CALENDAR. AS YOU HEARD FROM PASTOR ROSENTHAL THIS MORNING, PLEASE VISIT THAT BLACK HISTORY MONTH EXHIBIT THAT THEY HAVE AT THE MCKINNEY FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH ON FEBRUARY THE 15TH. SAINT MARK'S CHURCH IS HOSTING THE COLLEGE MEGA FEST. LAST YEAR WE HAD OVER, I THINK, 1600 REGISTERED AND I THINK 1100 THAT SHOWED UP, BUT REALLY GREAT INFORMATION, A NUMBER OF GREAT COLLEGES THAT ARE REPRESENTED THERE, GOOD INFORMATION FOR PARENTS ABOUT FINANCIAL AID. IT'S GREAT INFORMATION ABOUT FOR THE KIDS FOR SAT AND ACT PREP. AND THEY DO GIVE OUT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE DAY. SO ANYONE IN ATTENDANCE IS ABLE TO GET THAT. SO SEE THE WEBSITE FOR MORE INFORMATION.
