IT WAS AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE I QUICKLY MADE FRIENDS. I DIDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MAKING MISTAKES. I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY BUT SURELY DEVELOP PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS. DURING MY 20 MONTHS THERE, I WENT FROM BEING TOO TERRIFIED TO SPEAK TO STRANGERS, TO ASKING IF I COULD LEARN HOW TO WORK THE REGISTER AND INTERACT DIRECTLY WITH CUSTOMERS. AND IN AUGUST OF 2020, I WAS ACCEPTED TO MY DREAM JOB AT DISNEY WORLD, WHICH IS SOMETHING I NEVER WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ACHIEVE WITHOUT THAT SAFE, SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT THAT HUGS OFFERED. AFTER MY DISNEY PROGRAM ENDED, I MOVED BACK TO TEXAS. THAT WAS IN LAST FEBRUARY, AND I SENT A MESSAGE TO OUR NOW CEO, LAUREN. AND I SAID, IS THERE ANY PLACE AT ALL FOR ME IN THE HUGS OFFICES? AND MIRACULOUSLY, SHE SAID YES. AND WITHIN SEVEN MONTHS, I WENT FROM AN UNPAID INTERN TO AN INTEGRAL PART OF BOTH OUR DEVELOPMENT AND EXPANSION TEAMS. I ALSO SERVE AS THE LEAD OF THE HUGS AMBASSADOR PROGRAM, WHERE I GET TO MEET WITH DONORS AND CORPORATE PARTNERS AND TELL THEM ABOUT THE OUTSIZED IMPACT THAT HUGS HAS HAD ON LIVES LIKE MINE. SO AT HUGS, I REALLY HAVE A JOB THAT RECOGNIZES AND APPRECIATES MY SKILLS AND SEES A BRIGHT FUTURE FOR ME. IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE GREENHOUSE SIDE OF OUR PROGRAM, IT IS OUR SECOND HUGS CAFE INC. PROGRAM. WE OPENED BACK IN OCTOBER 2018 AND ARE DEDICATED TO EMPLOYING INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES. WHEN WE OPENED, OUR TEAM WAS OPERATING OUT OF A TRAILER AND SELLING PLANTS IN THE CHURCH PARKING LOT. BUT OVER THE NEXT SIX YEARS, WE REALLY BUILT A PLACE OF OUR OWN WITH A BARN, TWO GREENHOUSES, AND THREE GROWING PODS OUTFITTED WITH A PROPAGATION AND SEED GERMINATION. THE CDC HAS PLAYED A FUNDAMENTAL PART IN BOTH OF OUR MAJOR EXPANSION PROJECTS SO FAR. FROM 2019 TO 2024, AND IS OFFERED INCREDIBLE SUPPORT TO US OVER THE YEARS. BY INCREASING THE INFRASTRUCTURE AND GROWING SPACE WE HAVE ON SITE HUGS, GREENHOUSE WILL BE ABLE TO DRAMATICALLY INCREASE PRODUCTION WITHIN THE YEAR. OUR BIGGEST REVENUE STREAM AT GREENHOUSE COMES FROM WHOLESALE ORDERS. WITH EXPANDED GREENHOUSE CAPACITY, WE WILL IMMEDIATELY BE ABLE TO GROW MORE PLANTS WITH OUR EXISTING WHOLESALE PARTNERS, AS WELL AS ADD NEW WHOLESALE ACCOUNTS. OUR PROPOSED SITE IMPROVEMENTS WILL DIRECTLY WORK TO ENHANCE SAFETY, SCALABILITY AND EFFICIENCY OF OUR GREENHOUSE OPERATIONS. SOME OF THESE IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDE INSTALLING AN AUTOMATIC ENTRY GATE AND IMPROVED DRIVEWAY HEATERS IN THE BARN TO ALLOW FOR YEAR ROUND PRODUCTION, LEGALLY COMPLIANT RELOCATION OF THE CURRENT SEPTIC SYSTEM TO BE ON HUGS GREENHOUSE PROPERTY, THE INSTALLATION OF THREE NEW GREENHOUSES AND ONE DEDICATED PROPAGATION HOUSE, A NEW, LARGER PROPANE TANK TO SUPPORT EXPANDED OPERATIONS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW AND IMPROVED WALKWAYS THROUGHOUT THE GREENHOUSE PROPERTY FOR ACCESSIBILITY AND SAFETY.
