I'M TANISHA SPARKMAN, THE DEPUTY CITY SECRETARY, AND I'M HERE TO PROVIDE YOU ALL WITH AN UPDATE ON THE CURRENT BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS APPOINTMENT PROCESS. THIS IS A TIME OF YEAR THAT WE BEGIN TO ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FROM MCKINNEY RESIDENTS THAT ARE INTERESTED IN SERVING ON A BOARD OF COMMISSION, AS WELL AS INCUMBENTS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN BEING REAPPOINTED.
ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 25TH, THE CITY COUNCIL WILL BEGIN THE PROCESS OF APPOINTING NEW MEMBERS TO THE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS WITH A WITH A A TERM THAT BEGINS ON OCTOBER 1ST, 2026. THE APPLICATION SUBMISSION PERIOD IS CURRENTLY OPEN AND WILL CLOSE ON FRIDAY, JUNE 19TH, AND YOU CAN APPLY ONLINE AND. ANY INCUMBENTS THAT ARE INTERESTED IN BEING REAPPOINTED OR REAPPLY USING THEIR CURRENT EMAIL ADDRESS AND MAKING ANY ADJUSTMENTS TO THEIR CURRENT APPLICATION. THAT'S ON FILE AND INTERVIEWS WILL BE CONDUCTED IN JULY.

ALSO WE DID HOST A VERY SUCCESSFUL AFFORDABLE HOUSING SUMMIT ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AGO NOW, I SUPPOSE THAT WE HAD OVER 300 ATTENDEES.THIS WAS ORGANIZED BY THE CITY AND OUR TEAM. WE HAD THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING SUMMIT WAS NOT ONLY TALKING ABOUT THE ISSUE OF HOUSING SHORTAGE AND WHERE WE NEED TO FILL IN THE GAPS, BUT WE WERE PUTTING PEOPLE WHO ARE THE INVESTORS AND THE BANKERS AND THE LENDERS IN TOUCH WITH THE INNOVATORS, THOSE WHO HAVE NEW HOUSING PRODUCT, NEW TECHNOLOGIES FOR BUILDING A HOME.
I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY INTERESTING. ONE OF THE PRESENTERS SAID, THE WAY HOMES HAVE BEEN BUILT HAVE BEEN BUILT THIS WAY FOR A CENTURY. IT TAKES ABOUT A YEAR TO BUILD A HOUSE WITH A WOOD STICK, CONSTRUCTION, ETC.
AND THERE ARE TECHNOLOGIES NOW THAT ARE OUT THERE THAT CAN BUILD A HOME FAR SHORTER TIME FRAME.
SOME OF THEM ARE PREFABRICATED, SOME OF THEM ARE SORT OF 3D PRINTER.
THINK OF A GIANT 3D PRINTER PLACED ON THE SITE, LOADED WITH CONCRETE OR MASONRY, AND ABLE TO BUILD A HOME USING THIS TYPE OF TECHNOLOGY MUCH FASTER THAN WHAT IT WOULD BE DONE UNDER YOUR TRADITIONAL.
SO THOSE NEW TECHNOLOGIES ARE THINGS THAT WE HAVE TO EVALUATE AND EMBRACE IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES.
WE ALSO HAVE A WELL, IT'S ASKING FOR MY ID HERE.
SO WE HAVE A JOINT MEETING THIS AFTERNOON AT 4 P.M.

THAT'S GOING TO BE A THREE ACRE LAGOON POND THAT HAS WAVE A WAVE MAKER TO CREATE WAVES FOR SURFING, FULL BLOWN SURFING, THAT THEY'LL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY.
IT'S GOING TO CREATE A DIFFERENT TYPE OF MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT AGAIN AT THE CORNER OF STACY AND 121.
I THINK WE'RE LOOKING AT MID 27 AND THE VENUE PROJECT.
THEY'RE TELLING US AS OF NOW, FIRST QUARTER OF 2027.

HOW DO WE ORGANIZE OUR EFFORTS AS A COMMUNITY FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL TO COMMUNITY COLLEGE LEVEL TO THE EMPLOYERS SO THAT WE CAN HAVE MORE SKILLED WORKERS AND PROVIDE THE RESOURCES THEY MIGHT NEED? SO THEY COME AND WORK HERE.
SO, FOR EXAMPLE, THE INDUSTRY SECTOR WE'RE LOOKING AT IS HOSPITALITY.
THEY'RE NOT NECESSARILY THE HIGHEST PAYING JOBS, ALTHOUGH THEY'RE OFTENTIMES JOBS THAT PEOPLE WILL USE TO START THEIR CAREER AND LEARN SKILLS AND AND THEN EXPAND FROM THERE. BUT BARRIERS ARE SOMETIMES HOUSING, SOMETIMES THE BARRIERS ARE ALSO DAYCARE.

WHAT WE HOPE IS ONCE WE GET THAT GOING, WE CAN THEN EXPAND IT INTO OTHER INDUSTRY SECTORS MAYBE THAT REQUIRE DIFFERENT SETS OF SKILLS, HIGHER LEVELS OF SKILL SETS. BUT WE DIDN'T WANT TO COMPLICATE IT TOO MUCH.

IN TERMS OF THE PROJECT GRANTS, PUBLIC HEARINGS ON ELIGIBLE PROJECTS ARE SCHEDULED FOR THE APRIL 23RD BOARD MEETING, WHICH WE'VE ALREADY HEARD AND SO ATTACHED. YOU WILL FIND THE SUMMARY OF THOSE REQUESTS RECEIVED AND THEN THE APPLICATIONS FOR THE FINAL CYCLE OF THE RETAIL DEVELOPMENT INFRASTRUCTURE GRANT WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH JULY 1ST THROUGH 31, AND THOSE ARE RESTRICTED TO EXTERIOR INFRASTRUCTURE.

THE OVERALL PROJECT BUDGET IS JUST OVER 10 MILLION YOU KNOW, EIGHT AND A HALF FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND THEN ABOUT ONE AND A HALF FOR OR A MILLION FOR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AND OTHER ENGINEERING SERVICES, AND THEN 500 FOR FURNITURE, FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT. AND SO, YOU KNOW, TAKING A LOOK ABOUT OUR GYM THAT HAS KIND OF GOTTEN A LITTLE DIRTY OVER THE YEARS, SIGNIFICANT INFRASTRUCTURE, THINGS THAT, YOU KNOW, A LOT OF PEOPLE WON'T SEE BEHIND THE WALLS ON THE ROOF, HVAC, ELECTRICAL, EVERYTHING FROM RAILINGS TO, YOU KNOW, DOWNSPOUTS, DRAINAGE, THAT SORT OF STUFF.
INSIDE THE THEATER, WE'RE UPGRADING. WE'RE TAKING THIS AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO UPDATE THE THEATER TECHNOLOGY, REPAIR AND UPGRADE THE STAGE, WHICH IS A MODULAR STAGE NOW, OR WHICH WAS A MODULAR STAGE IS NOW GOING TO BE A PERMANENT STAGE, IMPROVING THE ACOUSTICS AND ADDING MORE COMFORTABLE SEATING.
WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE A MUCH MORE USER FRIENDLY SEATING OPTION.

THE CONSTRUCTION BEGAN AND WE ARE ACTUALLY ON TARGET TO TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT BY MID NOVEMBER.
