I THINK RESIDENTS ARE NOT ONLY PLEASED WITH THE PRODUCT THAT'S ON THE GROUND AND THE ROAD, THE CONDITION OF THE ROAD, BUT THEY'RE ALSO VERY PLEASED THAT THEY WERE INFORMED AND KIND OF KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON. AS WE WERE MOVING ALONG. SO EL DORADO DID NOT COME WITHOUT ITS CHALLENGES. I'LL RIP THE BAND-AID OFF AND TELL YOU THAT WE REPLACED ALMOST TWICE AS MANY PANELS AS WE EXPECTED TO REPLACE ON THIS PROJECT. THERE ARE SEVERAL REASONS FOR THAT. THIS IS NOT A FULL ROADWAY REPLACEMENT. WE DIDN'T RIP UP THE PAVEMENT. WE DIDN'T HAVE A CLEAN SLATE TO START WITH, RIGHT? WE'RE REPLACING PANELS. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WE'RE GOING TO GET INTO UNTIL WE GET OUT THERE. SO ONCE WE RIPPED UP THE PANELS, WE REALIZED THE SUBGRADE WAS NOT IN THE CONDITION THAT WE EXPECTED IT TO BE IN. THE CONDITION WASN'T GOOD. THERE WERE VOIDS IN THE SUBGRADE. SO NOT ONLY DID IT AFFECT THE PANELS WE WERE PLANNING TO REPLACE, YOU COULD TELL IT WAS GOING TO AFFECT ADJACENT PANELS, SO ADDITIONAL PANELS HAD TO BE REPLACED. WHILE WE WERE OUT THERE, THERE WERE CRACKS THAT WE THOUGHT WE WOULD BE ABLE TO SEAL, AND ONCE WE GOT OUT THERE AND REPLACED THE PANELS, WE WERE PLANNING TO REPLACE, THOSE PANELS WERE COMPROMISED AND KIND OF CRUMBLED, AND WE HAD TO MAKE THE DECISION TO REPLACE THOSE PANELS AS WELL. AS MANY OF YOU ARE AWARE, THERE WERE SOME VERTICAL SEPARATION AT THE JOINTS IN SEVERAL AREAS. WE REPLACED A LOT OF THOSE PANELS. AND WHEN WE GOT OUT THERE, YOU KNOW, WHEN WE PLANNED THIS PROJECT TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO, TWO AND A HALF YEARS PAST. SO THE CONDITION WORSENED. AND SO WE ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE MORE PANELS THAN WE PLANNED ON. AND, YOU KNOW, HINDSIGHT IS 2020. I'VE BEEN ASKED. RYAN'S BEEN ASKED. SO WE MADE THE DECISION TO REPLACE THOSE PANELS WHILE WE WERE OUT THERE. ANOTHER ISSUE WE CAME ACROSS EL DORADO PARKWAY. IT'S BEAUTIFUL. IT'S GOT ALL THOSE TREES LINING SEVERAL SEGMENTS OF IT ALONG THE CORRIDOR. BUT THOSE TREES, UNFORTUNATELY, WHEN WE RIPPED UP THOSE PANELS, WE NOTICED THAT THE ROOTS HAD ENCROACHED INTO THAT SUBGRADE, COMPROMISED THE PAVEMENT. AND THOSE TREES ARE WHAT WERE CAUSING A LOT OF THE ISSUES THAT WE SAW WITH THE PAVEMENT. SO IN ORDER TO ADDRESS THAT, SO THAT THE PARTS DIDN'T REPEAT ITSELF, WE HAD THE CONTRACT PUT IN A PHYSICAL ROOT BARRIER IN BETWEEN THOSE TREE ROOTS AND THE NEW PANELS AND THE NEW SUBGRADE, SO THAT THOSE ROOTS COULD BE COMPROMISED. THE NEW PAVEMENTS AGAIN. SO WE'RE NOT OUT HERE IN SIX MONTHS, A YEAR, FIVE YEARS FROM NOW DEALING WITH THE SAME ISSUE. SO THAT WAS A ABOUT $40,000, I BELIEVE, FOR THE ROOT BARRIER SYSTEM. THE REST OF IT OBVIOUSLY WAS THE ADDITIONAL PANELS. SO BETWEEN THE ADDITIONAL PANELS AND THE ROOT BARRIER, OUR BUDGET WAS $3.5 MILLION AND WE'RE SITTING AT $6 MILLION AT THE END OF EL DORADO. SO. SO NOW TALKING ABOUT THE CONTRACTOR THAT'S OUT THERE, THEY'VE BEEN DOING A GREAT JOB. EVERYBODY'S VERY PLEASED WITH TG ALONG. NO COMPLAINTS THERE. ARE WE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT REPLACING THOSE PANELS AGAIN SOON? YOU KNOW, WE SHOULDN'T BE. THE WAY THEY TIED IT IN. THEY TIE IT ALL IN PROPERLY WITH THE EXISTING PAVEMENT. AND IF IT'S IF THE PAVEMENT ISN'T STRUCTURALLY SOUND ENOUGH TO TIE IT INTO, THEN THAT'S, THAT'S ANOTHER REASON WE WENT OVER RIGHT. SOME OF THE OLD PAVEMENT WASN'T STRUCTURALLY SOUND ENOUGH TO TIE INTO TO MAKE IT STRUCTURALLY SOUND, SO I DO FEEL COMFORTABLE SAYING THAT WHEN THEY WENT OUT THERE, THEY WERE ABLE TO TIE IT IN TOGETHER WHERE THAT'S NOT AN OPTION OR THAT'S NOT A POSSIBILITY, BUT YOU CAN'T RULE THAT OUT, RIGHT? I WANTED TO JUST BRIEFLY SHARE HERE A NUMBER OF THE PARTNERS THAT GOT INVOLVED IN THIS FIRST YEAR EVENT, MANY OF WHICH CAME WITH US FROM OUR DALLAS MARATHON EVENT. OTHERS WERE LOCAL TO MCKINNEY. OUR GOAL WITH THIS EVENT WAS TO WELCOME ALL WHO WANTED TO BE A PART OF THIS. AND SO THESE FOLKS HELPED PUT ON AN INCREDIBLE EVENT. AND IN ADDITION TO THESE FOLKS, WE WERE ALSO ABLE TO WORK WITH A NUMBER OF COMMUNITY PARTNERS, SUCH AS THE FARMERS MARKET, MCKINNEY CHUPACABRAS, JUST TO NAME A COUPLE WHO ALL GOT INVOLVED AND VOLUNTEERED, WORKED WATER STOPS. AND MANY OF US, YOU KNOW, CITY EMPLOYEES EVEN PARTICIPATED. SO IT WAS REALLY GREAT TO SEE EVERYBODY COME TOGETHER FOR THIS EVENT. I WANTED TO SHARE A FEW OF THE NUMBERS FROM THE DAY. WE HAD OVER 4000 PARTICIPANTS AND THEN WITH THEIR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND OTHER SPECTATORS, WE ANTICIPATE ABOUT 7800 WERE IN ATTENDANCE [00:45:09] THROUGHOUT THAT MORNING. OUR MEDIA REACH WAS PRETTY OUTSTANDING WITH THE HELP OF OUR PARTNERS, AND WE WERE ABLE TO REACH 17.6 MILLION PEOPLE. THAT VIDEO HELPED QUITE A BIT. AND THEN JUST TO BREAK THAT DOWN, WE HAD 2500 HALF MARATHON PARTICIPANTS, ABOUT 1405 PARTICIPANTS. AND THEN WE DID A 200 AND WE HAD A 100 METER DASH WITH ABOUT 250 KIDS THAT PARTICIPATED AS WELL. MOST EXCITING, I WOULD SAY, IS THAT THIS IS OUR HEAT MAP. SO WE REACHED 28 STATES AND FOUR COUNTRIES. I WOULD SAY THE MAJORITY OF OUR PARTICIPANTS DID COME FROM THIS AREA. BUT YOU CAN ALSO SEE THAT WE WERE ABLE TO REACH PEOPLE ACROSS THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES. AND SO FROM HERE, WITH THE FOUNDATION THAT'S BEEN SET, WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE AND WOULD LIKE TO SEEK COUNCIL'S SUPPORT TO DEVELOP A LONG TERM PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF MCKINNEY TO HOST AN ANNUAL EVENT IN THE SPRING. WE HAVE WOULD LIKE TO HOST NEXT YEAR ON APRIL 3RD.
