DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON AGENDA ITEM IST THE TEXAS FLAG. OKAY, UM. I'D LIKE TO SAY IT'S NATIONAL PUNCTURE ELECTION DAY. TO MAKE SURE PITCHER COMMA IN THE CORRECT SPOT THAT WAS REAL IMPORTANT. DON'T WANT TO BE MISUNDERSTOOD TODAY. ME AND FOR OUR MOMENT OF REFLECT FLEXION I'D LIKE TO REFLECT ON COMMUNITY. AND COMMUNITY IS TO FIND BY FEELING A FELLOWSHIP.
COMMON INTERESTS AND GOALS ECONOMIC GOALS. I KNOW WE DON'T ALL WANT QUALITY JOBS, QUALITY HOUSING QUALITY EDUCATION. SO JUST LET'S JUST TAKE A FEW SECONDS TO REFLECT ON COMMUNITY AND WHAT THAT MEANS TO US. GREAT THINGS. CONSENT. ADAM'S 2008 TO 5 MINUTES OF MCKINNEY
[CONSENT ITEMS]
COMMUNITY OF ELEMENT CORPORATION MEETING OF AUGUST 27TH 2020. WE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS? AND I THINK TODAY WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE SAY WE'RE GOING TO MOVE AND SAY WE'RE GOING TO SECOND. NO WAY IT'S VERBAL PLUS THE BUTTON. SO DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE THESE MINUTES? MENTION APPROVAL CONSENT ITEMS 2ND 2ND. HAVE ANY BUTTONS, LINDA. HAVE MY BUTTON. YES. WE'RE WAITING ON THIS. I WANTED TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNEW THAT DEBRA BRADFORD IS SITTING IN FOR DAVID KELLY. TODAY. SHE'S OUR ULTIMATE. WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE. IS THAT HER NAME DIDN'T CALL YOU, BARBARA. NO ONE'S GOING TO BLAME ME IF THIS DOESN'T WORK. THANK YOU. THOSE MINUTES ARE APPROVED. I FOUND THAT MUCH MORE INTERESTING THAN NOT SAYING. 2008 TO 6 MINUTES OF MCKINNEY COMMUNITY. APPROVED AUTHOR. OK, GREAT, THANK YOU. ONTO THE REPORTS. FINANCIAL REPORT. 20028. MORNING CHANCE.[Financial Report]
MILLER FINANCIAL COMPLIANCE MANAGER WILL BE GOING OVER THE MONTH OF AUGUST TODAY SO FAIRLY EVENTFUL MONTH. HE HAD 38,000 AND COMMUNITY GRANTS OF PROJECTS BE PAID OUT IN THE MONTH OF AUGUST. WE ALSO WE ALSO SAW 700,000 FOR THE PARK CONSTRUCTION FUND GET PAID OUT.I'LL TALK TO THAT. THIS IS THE MONTH EVERY YEAR THAT ARE DEBT SERVICE GETS PAID OUTS THAT'S CLOSE TO 1.5 MILLION. AS A RESULT OF ALL THAT WE SAW IN THAT DECREASE OF 665,000. UM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. TODAY WE HAVE A NET GAIN OF 5.6 MILLION, SO WE'RE STILL LOOKING VERY STRONG, BUILT WHOLE FISCAL YEAR. UM AND THIS IS THE 11TH MONTH. SO WE HAVE ONE MORE MONTH AFTER THIS BEFORE WE START THE FISCAL YEAR, 21. MOVING ON TO SALES TAX. SOME AUGUST SALES TAXES OPTICAL TO THE MONTH OF JUNE. WE SAW 15.7% INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR ARE SISTER CITIES ALSO START TO SEE INCREASES BALANCE ON 8.9% INCREASE. FRISCO SAW 9.7% INCREASE IN PLANO SAW 1% INCREASE. SO KIND OF SHOWS THE SURROUNDING AREAS ARE STARTING
[00:05:03]
TO PICK UP A SWELL JUST GOOD TO SEE YOU. OUR YEAR TO DATE IS 39.1% INCREASE, SO WE BUDGET UNDERNEATH 5. SO THAT'S VERY STRONG WITH ONLY THREE MONTHS TO GO ON, AND I'LL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS. DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON THE CHECK? THANK YOU. ITEM 20082 9[Board and Liaison Updates Board Chair City of McKinney Visit McKinney McKinney Economic Development Corporation McKinney Main Street/MPAC McKinney Parks and Recreation]
BORDEN LIAISON UPDATES. DO WE HAVE ANYTHING? YEP. OKAY FOR MYSELF. I HAVE PUT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE INFORMATION ON ADOPT A SPOT. I'D REALLY LIKE US TO CONSIDER THAT AND. EITHER COME TO A CONSENSUS. CONSENSUS ON YES OR NO, IT'S NOT A BOAT. JUST DECIDE YES OR NO, WE WANT TO DO THAT. BASED ON THAT INFORMATION THAT I PROVIDED. IN THE SPOT. WE'RE LOOKING AT A SPOT EIGHT. WHICH IS BONNIE WAIT, PARK. IT IS A. IT IS A COMMITMENT NECESSARILY SIZABLE, BUT IT IS A COMMITMENT. I THINK IT WOULD BE FOUND. I'D LIKE TO DO BRING OUR FAMILIES. ABOVE AND BEYOND. OF COURSE, WHAT THE CITY ALREADY DOES. THIS IS LIKE A LITTLE EXTRA. MAYBE WALK THROUGH THE POISON IVY OR WHATEVER, AND GET SOME STUFF THAT'S JUST NOT VISIBLE AND CHECK FOR THINGS LIKE THAT. I HAVE A QUESTION. IS IT FOR FOUR TIMES OUT OF THE YEAR? THAT WAS A REQUIREMENT OF PICK UP CLEAN UPDATES LIKE FOUR TIMES A NIGHT. DO YOU WANT TO SPEAK? YES, PLEASE, SIR. MORNING MICHAEL KOWSKI DIRECTOR. PRICE RECREATION IS AS AS NEEDED. TO BE HONEST WITH YOU GROUPS COME TO US AND SAY WE'RE GOING TO HAVE ANY EVENT A COUPLE WEEKENDS. AND WE HELPED COORDINATE FROM TRASH BAGS OUT THERE AND SOME STUFF TO ASSIST, SO THERE'S NO MINIMUM PER SE. IT'S FOR THE EDGE OF GUYS. FUEL YOU HAVE TIME TO COME TOGETHER.SO I DO HAVE A QUESTION HAT WITH THE PROJECT. I THINK IT'S A GREAT IDEAL. HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED DOING IT KIND OF AND. ON OUR SISTER CITIES. I KNOW THEY HAVE A REQUIREMENT OF LIKE A MINIMUM OF FOUR TIMES A YEAR, AND THEN THEY KIND OF LINED IT UP WITH SOME OF THE NATIONAL CLEAN UP DAYS. I MEAN, SO IT DEFINITELY IT STILL CAN BE AS NEEDED. AND IF WE SEE THAT THERE'S A NEED FOR PICKUP, BUT DEFINITELY IF THERE WAS A DESIGNATED. TIMES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THIS MAN, WE DO HAVE ONE OF THOSE AT THE YEARLY TRASH BASH DO WHICH IS A EVENT AT THE PARK SYSTEM WIDE THAT CITYWIDE OTHER ON THAT COLLECTS TONS OF GARBAGE BUT VOLUNTEERS.
THE ADOPTIVE SPOT STARTED ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. WE'RE STILL ROLLING INTO THE PROCEDURES AND PROCESSES, SO AS YOU GET MORE PEOPLE LINED UP, WE'LL BE ABLE TO HAVE MORE DEDICATED TIMES. YOU'RE SPEAKING TO RIGHT NOW. ALL THIS MAYBE 60 SPOTS MAYBE. 15 ARE TAKEN SO FAR. OK? THANK YOU. THANK YOU. AND THE VERY LAST SENATE'S TALKS ABOUT MAYBE WORKING WITH THE PARKS FOUNDATION. YOU KNOW THAT LITTLE ORGANIZATION THAT'S A KIND OF BARELY KNEW ALSO. TO SEE IF THEY YOU KNOW IF THEY'RE PLANNING ON BEING OUT AT BONNIE WING, DOING SOMETHING THAT YOU KNOW, WE COULD COORDINATE WITH THEM ONE OF OUR TIMES TO DO WITH HIM. MAYBE TO THAT VERY TOPIC IN MY PRESENTATION. OKAY, GREAT. INNKEEPER. SO IF WE DID, LIKE, FOUR TIMES A YEAR DOES THAT MAKE IT DIFFERENCE THAT SOUNDED RIGHT TO ME. I MEAN, I JUST KNOW BECAUSE ANOTHER ORGANIZATION I AND WE, WE HAVE A SPOT, WHICH IS IN A SISTER, SADIE AND ONE. IT ALLOWS US THE PLAN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, SO WE ALREADY KNOW THE DESIGNATED.
TIMES AND THEN IF IT'S ONE DAY THAT COLLECTIVELY, ALL OF THE GROUP'S THUS FAR THAT HAVE, LIKE EVEN ON THE TRASH BASH DAY, IF THAT'S KIND OF THE. BIG DAY THAT EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT'S A DAY WE ALL HAVE TO GO INTO IT ALLOWS FOR THE PLANNING OF IT, SO IT'S LIKE SAYING THIS SATURDAY, RIGHT THIS RASCAL PLANNING AND YOU, YOU KNOW YOU COULD DO A LITTLE BIT MORE PUBLICISING AND INDIVIDUALS AND WE WANT TO BRING OUT ADDITIONAL PEOPLE IN A COMMUNITY WE CAN SAY. THIS WEEK. YOU KNOW, M CBC WILL BE OUT ON THIS DAY, SO JUST A RECOMMENDATION. I MADE AN ASSUMPTION. WE'RE ASSUMING IT'S A WEEKEND, EH? I WOULD ASSUME THAT MOST OF THIS, YOU TAUGHT ME SOMETIMES. I MEAN, WE'VE DONE IT LIKE EARLY SATURDAY MORNING, SO WE WOULD GO OUT THERE LIKE EIGHT O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING. WE HAD A STRETCH, SO IT WAS LIKE A MILE STRETCH FOR US. SO WE TOOK US LESS THAN YEAH. SO I WOULD GO AHEAD COORDINATOR FOR Y'ALL. I WOULD SET FOR SOME TIME. I WOULD GO AHEAD AND COORDINATE THAT FOR Y'ALL AND I WOULD SET
[00:10:01]
SOME DATES IN ADVANCE WHETHER PENDING THERE MAY BE SOME MARINE OUT PLANS THAT KIND OF A THING, AND I'LL FIND OUT WHEN THAT TRASH DAY. HIS DAY IS AND JUST ORGANIZED THAT AS A WHOLE AND INVITE MCKINNEY PARKS TO JOIN IN PARKS FOUNDATION TO JOIN US ON THOSE DAYS AND OTHER STAFF. THOSE KIND OF THINGS YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS CAN ALWAYS JOIN. IF THEY CHOOSE TO JOIN IN. THEY WOULD NEED TEO DO THE ONLINE WAIVER AS WELL. SO. HOW YOU GET ALL THAT INFORMATION? ONCE I HEAR A CONSENSUS IT SOUNDS LIKE I'M HEARING. THANK YOU. SO WHAT YOU'RE SAYING HIS TEENAGE DAUGHTERS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND. THAT'S UH THAT'S ALL I HEARD ABOUT IT. I THINK MINE WOULD MAKE MORE MESS THAN THEY'RE CLEANING UP. SO YOU THINK? YES, OKAY, SO LET'S GO FORWARD LONDON. CITY MCKINNEY, PAUL. GOOD MORNING. PAUL GRIMES, CITY MANAGER. MADAM CHAIRMAN AND PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. SO, UM NATIONAL PUNCTUATION DAY. WHERE DO I BEGIN? JACK HAVE ANY OTHER DAYS THERE? THE FATHER OF TEENAGERS. I FEEL YOUR PAIN IF YOU HAVE CLEANUP DAY ANYTIME BEFORE NOON, COUNT OUT, THE TEENAGERS WILL BE THERE. SO. COUPLE EXAMPLES TO WIT ABOUT THE GRAMMATICAL APOCALYPSE THAT WE'RE FACING. NO CAPITALIZATION, SO WE ARE PROBABLY GOING TO EAT DINNER WITH FRIENDS, SO IT GIVES US SOMETHING TO DO. I SUGGEST THAT MAYBE THEY COME OVER. HANGOUT BARBECUE. WHATEVER HE SAYS, I D. K BECAUSE THERE'S LIKE NOTHING TO DO AT THE HOUSE. WE WANT TO FIND A PARTY WITH PPL.SO. WE DEFINITELY NEED NATIONAL PUNCTUATION, OTHER THINGS SO. I WANTED TO UPDATE YOU ON A COUPLE OF MATTERS. SEPTEMBER 15TH, THE CITY COUNCIL ADOPTED OUR ANNUAL BUDGET FISCAL YEAR.
21 BUDGET STARTS OCTOBER 1 RUNS THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30TH OF NEXT YEAR. $640 MILLION ALL FUNDS.
$159 MILLION GENERAL FUND BUDGET GENERAL FUND IS TYPICALLY USED TO FUND OUR SERVICES AND OPERATIONS AND SALARIES AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF WATER WATER COMES OUT OF THE WATER FUN WHICH COMPRISES, AMONG OTHER THINGS, OUR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND IN OUR WATER FUND, ETCETERA THAT SURPRISES THAT ENTIRE ALL FUNDS BUDGET.
LOT OF THINGS HAPPENING. VERY ACTIVE. IN SPITE OF COVERT, WE ARE AS BUSY AS EVER. UH, LOTS OF DEVELOPMENT PROJECT LOTS OF EXCITING PROJECTS COMING DOWN THE PIKE. WE HAVE THE BYRON NELSON GOLF CLASSIC NEXT SPRING THAT WILL BE A SHOWCASE PROJECT FOR THE ENTIRE REGION. COLLIN COUNTY. IT'S VERY EXCITING, ESO. IT'S ALL HANDS WITH RESPECT TO THAT. WE HAVE AN E R P SYSTEM THAT WILL BE STARTING IMPLEMENTATION AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. OUR SHORTLY THEREAFTER IF ANYBODY KNOWS ANYBODY, RP SYSTEMS, IT'S YOUR WOULD BE SHUTTERING. RIGHT NOW, YOU'D BE SHIVERING BECAUSE IT'S A IT'S AN INTIMIDATING PROJECT. IT'S SORT OF LIKE CHANGING OUT THE ENGINE ROOM ON A SHIP. AND WHILE YOU'RE STILL TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING ELSE, SO, UH, BUT IT HAS TO BE DONE. IT'S WE NEED TO MODERNIZE OUR ENTERPRISE RESOURCE OUR FINANCIAL SYSTEM.
AND WE WILL BE DOING THAT AMONG A NUMBER OF OTHER THINGS THIS YEAR. SO I WANTED UPDATE YOU ON OUR CARES. ACT THIS IS THE FEDERAL CARES. ACT MONEY. THIS IS THE FEDERAL MONEY THAT WAS TRANSFERRED OR DISTRIBUTED OR DISPERSED TO COLLIN COUNTY AND THEN SPREAD OUT THROUGH AMONG THE CITIES OF COLLIN COUNTY ON GENERALLY A PRO RATA BASIS. CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZED UP TO $5.6 MILLION OF CARES ACT FUNDING FOR SMALL BUSINESS ASSISTANCE UP TO $25,000 FOR EACH BUSINESS IF THEY QUALIFY. WE PARTNERED WITH BRISCOE AND ALAN IN HIRING A CONSULTING GROUP. THERE WERE TWO SORT OF VET OUT THE APPLICATIONS GO THROUGH ALL OF THOSE, AND AT THE END OF THE DAY WE LOOKS LIKE WE'RE GOING TO FUND 187 GRANTS. FOR A TOTAL OF ABOUT $4.2 MILLION. AND, UM THERE'S SOME ADMINISTRATION FEES AND GO ON TOP OF THAT THAT THE FIRM THE COMPANY HIRED MAKE, SO, UM IT'LL BE AROUND 4.5 MILLION, SO. IT'S LOTS OF NEED OUT THERE.
THE COUNTY HAS ALSO ALLOCATED $15 MILLION. THEY MAYBE OVERSUBSCRIBED. THEY MAY BE COMING BACK FOR SOME OR I SHOULD SAY COMING BACK. THEY WERE THE SOURCE, BUT THEY MAY BE REALITY. FUNDS FROM SOME OF THE OTHER PROGRAMS FOR ANOTHER $10 MILLION FOR BUSINESS ASSISTANCE FOR THE COUNTY'S OWN PROGRAM. THE COUNTY'S PROGRAM IS BASICALLY MODELED AFTER THE SAME THING THAT WE DID THEY USE THE SAME CONSULTING FIRM. ETCETERA AND THEIR THEIR WINDOW CLOSES. I BELIEVE TODAY. UH, TOMORROW. I BELIEVE FRIDAY OF THIS WEEK IS WHEN THEIR WINDOW
[00:15:01]
CLOSES. AND THEN THAT WILL BE IT UNLESS THERE'S MORE MONEY TO COME DOWN THE ROAD, BUT I DON'T ENVISION IT UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTION, SO WITH THAT I WILL STAND FOR ANY QUESTIONS. OKAY? AND WE APPRECIATE Y'ALL GETTING THAT MONEY OUT. I KNOW IT HAD TO BE DONE BY THE END OF THE YEAR AND OFFER FOR DOING THAT, AND. COUNTY, TOO, FOR COMING BACK AND GIVING MANY TIO UNINCORPORATED AREAS IF THEY HADN'T ALREADY RECEIVED IT FROM THE CITY REALLY HAS BEEN. NO GOVERNMENT GETS LOTS OF CRITICISM, SOME OF IT FOR GOOD REASON. BUT I WILL SAY THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL COOPERATION BETWEEN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO COUNTIES. IN THE STATES IN THE LOCALITIES HAS BEEN REALLY SHOWCASE IN THIS EVENT WHEN THE TIME WHEN IT'S NEEDED, THEY MOVED THE MONEY. THE MONEY WAS DISPERSED AND LITERALLY WITHIN ABOUT 30 DAYS, THE MONEY WAS GOING OUT THE DOOR. INTO CHECKS IN PEOPLE'S BANK ACCOUNTS. ESO ALL PARTIES MOVED VERY QUICKLY.THE COUNTY DESERVES AN AWFUL LOT OF CREDIT FOR MY COUNTERPART, BILL BILL, YOU OF THE COUNTY AND HIS STAFF GREAT JOB. MEASURES COURT, YOU KNOW, SAID THE POLICY THIS DIRECTION AND THAT HAS BEEN REALLY A TALE OF SUCCESS. YOU KNOW, I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION WITH THE FUNDS THAT WERE BEING DISPERSED. DID WE HAVE ANY CHICKS AND BOUNCES AFTER TOE? FOLLOW UP WITH BUSINESS, IS IT? JUST CURIOUS. IT'S NO TO BE HONEST WITH YOU THAT IS GOING TO BE ONE OF THE WEAKNESSES IN THIS ENTIRE ENTERPRISE. UH, WE DO THE PRE QUALIFICATION OF FRONT. AND WE DON'T REALLY ASK THEM HOW THEY SPEND THE MONEY. UH IT'S MONEY TO GO TO THEM TO CASH INFUSE CASH. THAT'S THE INTENT TO THE PROGRAM, THE NATIONAL PROGRAM. SO WE PRE QUALIFIED UP FRONT AND THAT'S WHERE THE SCRUTINY COMES, AND WE'VE GOTTEN SOME COMPLAINTS THAT IT'S TOO STRINGENT OR WHATEVER ARE SOME FOLKS JUST MISS A TIMELINE THAT THEY WEREN'T OPENED BY A CERTAIN DATE. SO THAT'S WHERE THE PREQUALIFICATION OCCURS. AFTER THAT THE MONEY GOES TO THEM. WE DON'T ASK HOW I SPEND IT. IT'S INTENDED TO BE SPENT FOR THEIR BUSINESS AND FOR WAGES, AND IT IS ALWAYS SUBJECT TO AUDIT. IT IS INTENDED FOR. YOU KNOW, CERTAIN TYPES OF THINGS THAT CAN GO INTO SOMEBODY'S POCKET PER SE, SO THAT AUDIT ABILITY WILL ALWAYS BE THERE. WE ALWAYS WE DESIGNED THE PROGRAM SO THAT IF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COMES IN AUDITS US IN FIVE YEARS. WE CAN STAY IN THAT SCRUTINY. UM BUT THAT IS ONE OF THE RISKS. I THINK NATIONALLY THAT WERE CONTAINING WITH US THE URGENCY TO GET THE MONEY OUT THE DOOR.
YOU DO GIVE UP SOME OF THAT. AUDIT ABILITY OR I JUST KNOW YOU KNOW, AND SEEING A LOT OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND A LOT OF. SOME PEOPLE TAKING TAKING ADVANTAGE ON THE LARGER SCALE ON THE TOP MAN, MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND YOU READ ARTICLES ALWAYS WENT OUT AND HAD A. SAY THAT THE RICH CALLED 50 MILLION, SAYING UNDER, YOU KNOW, REMEMBER, THERE WAS A LOT OF COMPANIES GAVE BACK A LOT OF BAD PUBLICITY. IT REALLY WASN'T INTENDED FOR LARGE CORPORATIONS SO MUCH, ALTHOUGH THERE ARE SOME THAT GOT THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY, FOR EXAMPLE. RECEIVED QUITE A BIT OF FUNDING AND THEY COULD NOT. THEY HAD THEY COULDN'T LAY ANYBODY OFF.
THROUGH SEPTEMBER. NOW THAT MONEY HAS DRIED UP AT THE END OF THIS MONTH. AND THEY'VE ANNOUNCED THOUSANDS OF LAYOFFS AND THEY'VE REDUCED THEIR CUTTING ROUTES, ETCETERA, BUT THAT TRADEOFF WASS IN THE MEANTIME, DURING THAT PERIOD, YOU CAN'T LET ANYBODY OFF. THE OBJECTIVE WAS TO TRY TO GET THROUGH THE VIRUS THROUGH THE PANDEMIC NOW AND THEN IT'S GOING LONGER THAN. WHAT WE BURN. I SUPPOSE THEY INITIALLY ANTICIPATED OR HOPED, I THINK ANTICIPATIONS WILL DIFFERENT AND HOPE THE SCIENTISTS KNEW THAT IT'D PROBABLY HERE FOR A WHILE, BUT, UM, ANYWAY, THAT'S THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION. THAT IS, THAT IS A CHALLENGE. SO WE TELL FOLKS JUST BE PREPARED. IF YOU COULD SOMEBODY COMES AN AUDITOR BOX YOU COULD YOU COULD BE AUDITED CHANCE OF THAT HAPPENING. PROBABLY PRETTY SLIM. YEAH. I THINK I JUST WANT TO SAY SOMETHING. WE'VE GOT A SHORT MEETING. SO THERE'S TIME FOR THE ID COMMENT AND I HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO MAKE THIS ONE YET. I JUST WANTED TEO. COMPLIMENT YOU AND YOUR TEAM ON ALMOST EVERYTHING THAT THEY WORK ON. I SEE LIKE A LEVEL OF PROFESSIONALISM AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND CARE. JUST LIKE THE DETAILED RESPONSES YOU JUST GAVE ANGELA THERE. IT'S REALLY SOMETHING TO SEE OR THE LAST FEW YEARS AND I JUST WANTED TEO COMMAND YOU AND ESPECIALLY EVERYBODY IN YOUR TEAM. THANK YOU. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT FORD. WHAT GROUP? IT'S. IT'S A DELIGHT WORKING WITH YOU GUYS. BUT THANKS APPRECIATE. HOW DID THANK YOU.
IS THAT MCKINNEY? WELL, GOOD MORNING EXPLANATION POINT GOOD MORNING. I'M HAPPY TO BE HERE.
I'M VANESSA ROADS FROM VISIT MCKINNEY. A FEW THINGS WANT A HIGHLIGHT FOR YOU GUYS ARE TRAVEL. TEXAS TRAVEL ALLIANCE IS PREPARING FOR THE 87 LEGISLATION AND ON THEIR AGENDA, I HANDED OUT A PACK OF FREE ALL TO REVIEW. BUT THE THINGS THAT THEY WERE FOCUSING
[00:20:03]
ON IS PROMOTING TRAVEL ECONOMIC GROWTH, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, TRANSPORTATION, INFRASTRUCTURE, SAFETY, SECURITY AND ACCESSIBILITY. NEXT THING I WANTED, TEO WE WANTED TO PUBLICLY SAY WAS A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE CHAMBER AND LEADERSHIP ALUMNI. THEY THEY PARTNERED WITH VISIT MCKINNEY TO SPONSOR THE 9 11 PATRIOT'S DAY. AND IT WAS A WALKING MEMORIAL TRIBUTE. I HOPE YOU ALL WERE ABLE TO GO OUT AND SEE IT OUT AT MITCHELL PARK. ALSO THANK YOU TO THE CITY FOR ALLOWING US TO DO THAT AT MITCHELL PARK, AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE ON EVERY YEAR. THE LEADERSHIP OF MUMBAI HAS BEEN WORKING ON IT, BUT THEY'RE GOING TO CONTINUE, TIO. TEO WORK ON THIS AND ALSO A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR MAYOR. MALEY, HIS WIFE, CHEAT KISSNER, CHIEF CALMLY AND CHIEF TAYLOR FOR ALL OF THEIR ASSISTANCE. WE JUST WANTED TO PUBLICLY SAY THAT. AND OUR OUR PROMOTIONAL GRANTS NORMALLY BE CUTOFF DATE WOULD BE OCTOBER 5TH. BUT THIS IS CYCLE ONE. WE'VE EXTENDED THAT TO OCTOBER 19TH. AND SO WE JUST ASK FOR FOLKS TO GO ON TO VISIT MCKINNEY DOT COM ONLINE AND FILL OUT THE APPLICATIONS FOR THAT, AND THEN THE LAST THING I WANTED TO SAY IS, WE WILL REALLY TALK MORE ABOUT THIS NEXT WEEK, BECAUSE THIS MEAN SORRY NEXT MONTH BECAUSE THIS IS HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND. IF YOU GUYS ARE FOLLOWERS ON INSTAGRAM. IF YOU WILL FOLLOW MY CURLY ADVENTURERS. THIS IS A TRAVEL BLOGGER THAT WILL BE HERE THIS WEEKEND. AND WE WANT TO THANK OUR PARTNERS, THE NETHER YE ESTATE AND THE GRAND FOR HOSTING THEM. THIS GIRL IS JUST AMAZING. SHE HAS OVER 80,000 FOLLOWERS, AND SHE'S GOING TO BE HIGHLIGHTING HER ADVENTURE THIS WEEKEND IN MCKINNEY AND THEN, LIKE I SAID NEXT MONTH, WILL REPORT MORE ON THE RESULTS OF THAT, BUT I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU A HEADS UP TO TRY TO FOLLOW HER AND SEE WHAT'S GOING ON. WITH THAT I WILL STAND FOR ANY QUESTIONS. WHAT'S THE NAME OF MY CURLY? CURLY LIKE SHE'S GOT CURLY HERE? YES, THANK YOU. THANK YOU. ME, DC. GOOD MORNING, MADAM CHAIRMAN, MADAME PRESIDENT FORD, PETER TOCAR PRESENT ON THE MCKINNEY ECONOMIC DEVELOPED CORPORATION. WE'RE HAVING A FANTASTIC YEAR OVER AT THE LOTS OF PROJECTS.SOME GREAT ANNOUNCEMENTS WE HAD LAST MONTH IF YOU'VE BEEN KEEPING A PAPER, KAIZEN DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS WILL BE BILLION 200,000 SQUARE FOOT INSPECTOR OF OFFICE BUILDING ON THE DISTRICT, 1 21. DEVELOPMENT SITE AND YOU GUYS ALREADY FAMILIAR WITH THE DEVELOPMENT SITE, BUT GREAT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE FORGETTING SPECTER OF OFFICE BUILDING. THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS WE'VE BEEN GOING AFTER US FOR A LONG TIME, GOING GREAT ADDITION AND HOPEFULLY BRING A LOT OF GOOD BUSINESS IS TOO. TO MAKE ANY ALSO IN CONJUNCTION WITH THAT WE ANNOUNCED THE RECRUITMENT OF THE R P M X CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS TO CRIME BRANCH CORPORATE CENTER. THEY'LL BE BUILDING IN 90,000 SQUARE FOOT HEADQUARTER BUILDING. THEY'RE TAKING ABOUT HALF OF IT SO THAT THE REMAINDER UP IT WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR COMMERCIAL LEASE, WHICH, AGAIN MORE OFFICE SPACE IN MCKINNEY IS ALWAYS A GOOD THING. WE'RE HAVING A REALLY GREAT YEAR. DESPITE THE PANDEMIC, WE THOUGHT THINGS WOULD SLOW DOWN. BUT ACTUALLY, THINGS HAVE HAVE SPED UP. EXPONENTIALLY UH, WE'RE HAVING SOME GREAT SUCCESS WITH OUR INNOVATION FUND. WHICH IS GEARED AT RECRUITING. START UP TECH COMPANIES, INNOVATION OF COMPANIES IN THE SMALLER I'M NOT. START UP IN THE SENSE THAT IT'S THERE IN THEIR MOM'S GARAGE, BUT, UH, THEY HAVE A MINIMUM BY PRODUCT THEY'VE RECEIVED. HERE'S A FUNDING AND THEY'RE JUST IN EARLY STAGE GROWTH MODE. WE'RE TRYING TO FOSTER THAT. KENNY FROM TEO REALLY DEVELOPED THAT INNOVATION ECONOMY THAT WERE WERE TARGETING FOR GROWTH STAGE COMPANIES TO HOPEFULLY GET IN EARLY ON COMPANIES AND. SEE THEM GROW IN, UH, ACROSS THE LONG HAUL AND MCKINNEY AND LOCATE HERE AND THEN TO STAY HERE. WE GET WE ALSO THIS PAST TUESDAY, WE GAVE A PRESENTATION TO CITY COUNCIL. WE HELD A STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSION. WE HAD A FACILITATOR COME IN TO LOOK AT OUR ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY. AND R K P I'S FOR 2021. AND WE SO WE FULLY ADOPTED OUR KP EYES FOR NEXT YEAR AND THEN DID A PRESENTATION TOO. CITY COUNCIL ON TUESDAY. AND REALLY, THE CRUX OF THE PRESENTATION IS WE'RE TRYING, TIO. UP OUR GAME A LITTLE BIT IN MCKINNEY. UH HISTORICALLY, WE'VE HAD A LOT OF SUCCESS WITH PROJECTS. BUT WHEN THE COMMUNITY WAS IN A DIFFERENT, AH, DIFFERENT PHASE OF GROWTH. LOOKING AT OUR DEMOGRAPHICS AND HOW HOW MUCH GROWTH WE'VE HAD IN THE ACTUAL STRONG DEMOGRAPHICS THAT WE HAVE FROM A HOUSING SUPPLY FROM EDUCATED WORKFORCE APPLY IT LENDS TO DIFFERENT TARGETS FOR. RECRUITMENT NOW TARGETS THAT CAN LIVE AND WORK IN OUR COMMUNITY AND WILL PROVIDE VALUE OUT. SO WE HAVE A WHOLE NEW STRATEGIC DIRECTION WITHIN
[00:25:02]
TARGETED INDUSTRIES FOR THE EEC FROM OUR RECRUITMENT STRATEGIES. MOSTLY FOCUSED ON CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS, ADVANCED MANUFACTURING. TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION AND MIXED USE, DESTINATION DRIVEN DEVELOPMENT. SO WE'RE VERY BUSY RIGHT NOW. AND UH GOOD THING AND PROVIDED ARE REPORTING THERE. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, WE HAVE AN ANSWER.LIKE THIS, LIKE TIO. UNDERSTAND SOMETHING ABOUT THE INCUBATORS. I KNOW ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO, THEY OPENED UP A KIND OF AN INCUBATOR NORTH OF 3 80. IS THAT IS THAT STILL GOING LIKE WHAT? WHAT'S HAPPENED? I'M SORRY IF I'M OTHER DATE ON CULTURE. SO TECH CULTURE MCKENNY IS I WOULD. PUT THAT MME OR IN THE KIND OF TECH CO WORKING SPACE. LANCE HAS DONE A REALLY GOOD JOB OF DOING A VERY INNOVATIVE AH, FACILITY OVER THERE THAT THAT PROVIDES.
OPPORTUNITY FOR INNOVATIVE COMPANIES TO COME IN AND WORK IN A CO WORKING TYPE OF ENVIRONMENT. WHAT? WE ARE LOOKING AT IT FROM A MORE OF AN INCUBATOR. I WOULDN'T NECESSARILY CALL IT AN INCUBATOR RIGHT? IT'S MORE LIKE A FACILITY, BUT IT'S A FACILITY WHERE THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR COLLABORATION WITH FELLOW LIKE MINDED BUSINESSES. WHAT WE'RE WORKING TOWARDS WHEN I SAY WE'RE BUILDING AN INCUBATOR INNOVATION ECONOMY IS PROVIDING.
AN ENVIRONMENT SIMILAR TO THAT, BUT WITH THE ADDITION OF MENTORING AND ACCESS TO CAPITAL, YOU WANT THOSE PROGRAMS FOR THOSE EARLY STAGE COMPANIES THAT PROVIDE THEM OPPORTUNITIES. TO WORK DIRECTLY WITH OTHER COMPANIES WORK WITH. CEOS OF TECH COMPANIES THAT HAVE MAYBE GONE THROUGH THE PROCESS OF WHERE THEY'RE AT CAN HELP MENTOR THEM. MAYBE THEY NEED SOME EARLY STAGE INVESTMENT ACCESS TO FUNDS ACCESS TO OTHER GROUPS THAT PROVIDE EDUCATION AND RESOURCE IS TO HELP THEM GROW. NOT JUST A SPACE. I UNDERSTAND.
UNDERSTAND WHAT AN INCUBATOR IS, BUT ARE YOU WHAT? WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS WITH IN THE STRATEGIC PLAN TO HELP DEVELOP ONE OF THOSE. WELL, WE'RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON IT. WE HAVE SOME CONCEPTUAL IDEAS OF ONE OF THEM WILL BE TIED TEO AGAIN. WE MENTIONED SKIES IN BUILDING ONE OF OUR THINGS WERE LOOKING INTO NOW IS WHEN OUR LEASE IS UP IN OUR CURRENT FACILITY MOVING INTO THAT NEW FACILITY AND AS PART OF THAT NEW FACILITY, TAKING ON SOME ADDITIONAL SPACE TO PROVIDE SOME. I GUESS LEASABLE SPACE FOR SOME OF HIS INNOVATION COMPANIES THAT THEN WE CAN BUILD THE PROGRAMMING AND TO BRING PEOPLE INTO DO MENTORSHIP. WE WERE SEARCHING FOR PARTNERS RIGHT NOW THAT HAVE SMALLER VC FUNDS OR ACCESS TO CAPITAL. THAT THEY'D BE WILLING TO TALK TO THESE COMPANIES OR LOOK AT EARLY STATE INVESTMENT FOR THESE COMPANIES, SO. WE'RE BUILDING A MODEL RIGHT NOW. IT'S NOT.
ANYWHERE NEAR READY, BUT WE'RE WORKING ON IT TO HOPEFULLY HAVE THAT WITHIN THE NEXT I WAS A YEAR TO YEAR AND HALF. THANK YOU. AND PETER. JUST ONE QUICK QUESTION. I LOVE THE IDEA OF THE INNOVATION MENTORSHIPS THAT SORT OF THING AND WITHIN THE ROLE OF THE D. C. IS THERE A COMPONENT OF, UM PROVIDING. FUND OR OPPORTUNITIES FOR EDUCATIONAL TRAINING IN THE EAST AND STEM SECTOR THINGS THAT WOULD FOSTER WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND BUILDING WITHIN. KENNY THAT THAT MIGHTY. WORKFORCE SURE, ACTUALLY, ACTUALLY, YES, THAT'S ACTUALLY PART OF OUR INNOVATION. FUNDS OF THE NEW INNOVATION FROM THAT WE'VE BUILT. IT'S NEW WITHIN THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WORLD BECAUSE WE WERE TAKING A LOOK AT HOW WE FUND THESE COMPANIES LITTLE BIT DIFFERENTLY. TRADITIONALLY OBVIOUSLY IS LOOKING AT JOB CREATION.
CAPITAL INVESTMENT, THERE IS SOME ELEMENT OF JOB CREATION FUNDS IN THERE, BUT A BIG PART OF THE FUN THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT TO HELP THESE STAGES HELP THESE EARLY STAGE COMPANIES GROW. IS AH BIG PORTION OF THAT FUND IS CALLED THE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT FUND. SO WE PROVIDE ACCESS TO CAPITAL TO HELP INCREASE THE TRAINING AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT FOR THOSE EMPLOYEES AS THEY'RE GOING ALONG. TECHNOLOGY IS CHANGING SO RAPIDLY THAT SKILLS NEED TO BE UPDATED VERY FREQUENTLY NOWADAYS, SO BIG PORTION OF THAT MONEY IS FOR SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND ALSO FOR THINGS LIKE. SPECIALLY WITHIN LIKE THE CYBER SECURITY FIELD. THERE'S SECURITY CLEARANCES THAT NEED TO BE OBTAINED. SO WE HELP WITH THE COMPANY WITH THE COST OF GETTING THEIR EMPLOYEES. CERTIFIED AND GET SECURITY CLEARANCE TRAINING. FOR TO BE ABLETO WORK WITHIN THE INDUSTRY ITSELF, SO THAT'S A BURDEN ON THE EMPLOYEES. I MEAN ON THE EMPLOYER AND EMPLOYEE TO BE ABLETO HAVE THAT CLEARANCE AND QUALIFICATION TO WORK FOR A COMPANY. WE'RE HELPING PROVIDE THAT TRAINING. THAT'S REALLY FABULOUS BECAUSE THERE'S SOME GREAT THINGS OUT THERE. YOU KNOW, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR FAST TRACKING THOSE SORTS OF TRAINING FOR VETERANS ONDA, ALSO FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. THAT MAY NOT BE COLLEGE BOUND, BUT THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET INTO VANITY OR SECURITY TYPE OF CAREER. I WOULD THINK
[00:30:07]
WOULD MARRY VERY NICELY. SO THAT'S FABULOUS. THANK WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE COLLIN COLLEGE TECH CAMPUS TURNING UP SOON, AND WE HOPE TO DEVELOP SOME PARTNERSHIPS WITH THEM AS WELL. THANK YOU. THE MAIN STREET IMPACT. HELLO. GOOD MORNING. AMY ROSENTHAL MCKINNEY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER. MCKINNEY MAIN STREET. REALLY COOL. I'VE GOT SOME DATA ABOUT SALES. THAT I'LL SHARE WITH CINDY. IT'S BEEN A GREAT PROGRAMME FOR US, SO THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH ON DH. THEN AGAIN, SEPTEMBER OR I MEAN OCTOBER 17TH AND 18TH. BUT I THOUGHT JACKIE WAS GOING TO PICK US UP AT THE SHERATON FOR THE CLEANUP PROJECT. YEAH, THAT'S A POSSIBILITY, TOO, IF YOU'D LIKE, SO. GREAT. OKAY YEAH. AND AMY. AND THAT AND THE OTHER, SO IT FEELS LIKE THERE'S SO MUCH TO DO, EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE A LITTLE BIT SMALLER AND THE YOU KNOW THE DRIVING CONCERT SERIES AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS, IT'S I THINK IT'S BEEN ALMOST FUN TO SEE HOW WHEN YOU CAN'T DO A BIG EVENT, HOW MANY DIFFERENT SMALL EVENTS CAN JUST POP UP AS A RESULT, AND B, YOU KNOW, WITH YOUR TEAM, CREATING ALL THESE
[00:35:04]
OPPORTUNITIES THAT'S BEEN. FINE THING T C THROUGH THIS PROCESS AND WE'RE GOING TO KEEP GOING.I MEAN, THINGS WERE GOING TO STILL BE DIFFERENT FOR A WHILE. SO THIS HOLIDAY SEASON. COMING SOON. WHAT WE'LL SEE WILL CONTINUE TO PULL IT OUT OF THE HAT. BUT, YEAH, THANK YOU. I APPRECIATE THAT. I JUST WANT TO TALK TO THE BOARD. AMY WAS KIND ENOUGH TO INVITE ME ON A LITTLE TOUR OF THE STORES ON THE MARGARITA WALK. AND SO WE ACTUALLY WENT IN AND TALKED TO THE DIFFERENT STORES FOR A COUPLE HOURS. DIFFERENT STORE OWNERS. AND IT WAS EYE OPENING FOR ME BECAUSE AS SOME OF YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, SOMETIMES I'M ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE FENCE WITH YOU GUYS ON KIND OF THE FOR PROFIT INITIATIVES THAT HAVE COME BEFORE US. AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF AMY KNOWS THIS ABOUT ME OR NOT, BUT I'VE ALWAYS KIND OF BEEN LIKE WHY ARE WE SUPPORTING THAT? SO. WE WENT IN AND THIS WAS THE SPG MARGARITA WALK. AND ON AND WE TALKED TO ALL THE DIFFERENT STORE OWNERS, AND THEY ALL LOVED IT. SO ANOTHER ONE OF OUR ONE OF OUR MISSIONS ARE CERTAINLY AMY'S MISSION AND OUR MISSION SUPPORT IS TO ENCOURAGE AND DEVELOP BUSINESS DOWNTOWN. AND TO EVERYBODY WE TALKED TO. THERE WASN'T ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT PEOPLE COMING IN STORE. IT WAS ENCOURAGING PEOPLE. THEY WERE HAPPY THAT. PEOPLE COMING INTO THE STORES WERE FIRST TIME VISITORS AND THEN THEY WERE SAYING, AND THEY'RE COMING BACK ON MONDAY OR OR WENTZ HERE THE FOLLOWING WEEK, AND THEY'RE VOLUNTEERING THIS AND THEY WERE ALL NEBULA ABOUT IT. SO. SO IT WAS. IT WAS A REAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR ME, AND I JUST WANTED TO MENTION THAT DOESN'T MEAN I'M NECESSARILY GOING TO CHANGE BECAUSE I'M AN OLD MAN, BUT, UH, NO. NO. BUT. UH BUT I JUST WANTED TEO SORT OF TELL EVERYBODY ABOUT THIS, AND I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU INVITING ME ALONG ON THE YES, THE. OF WALK WITHIN THE WALK OF BEHIND THE SCENES. YOU BEHIND THE SCENES WAS GOOD, AND I GOT A LITTLE FREE MARGARITA IN ONE PLACE. THANK YOU. I JUST WANTED TO SAY IN CONJUNCTION. BUT WHAT HE SHARED IS THAT ATTENDED FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT THE MARGUERITE STROLL IN. WOW. IT WAS JUST AMAZING AND MY RECOMMENDATION THEY NEED TO EXTEND THE TIME BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO GET ALL OF US. I'M RECOMMENDING EXTENDING THE TIME A LITTLE BIT, BUT I WENT INTO STORES THAT I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE NEVER GONE INTO, TO BE HONEST. AND I'LL BE GOING BACK, AND I WAS JUST AMAZED. SOMETIMES YOU THINK OF DOWNTOWN STORES AND YOU THINK OF BOUTIQUE TYPE STORES AND YOU THINK OF BEING PRICEY, AND I WAS AMAZED OF THE AFFORDABILITY OF SO MANY THINGS THAT SOME OF THE UNIQUE THINGS. THAT THEY HAVE. I TOOK ONE OF MY REALLY GOOD FRIENDS WITH ME AND IS THE STORE THEIR SAILS LIKE A LOT OF THE FOOTBALL MEMORABILIA IN HER UNCLE, WILLIE DAVIS PLAYED FOR THE. GREEN BAY PACKERS, AND HE ALSO WENT TO GRAMBLING AND IT WAS AMAZING. THEY HAD A. HAD A HELMET, A LITTLE HELMET. THAT WAS SO GREEN BAY IN GRAHAM THAT HAVE THE SAME GENES. AND WE THOUGHT IT WAS THIS PROGRAM AND YOU KNOW MY GRANDMA HBCU, AND IT WAS ACTUALLY THE RICH ROLE OF THE GREEN BAY PACKERS. AND SO SHE AUTOMATICALLY JUST BODY BECAUSE IT WAS THE LAST ONE. BUT IT WAS JUST LIKE IT WAS AMAZING. JUST SEEING EVERYBODY JUST GOING INTO STORES BE ENERGY DOWNTOWN WAS JUST AMAZING. I JUST I LOVE THE EVENT AND I JUST LOVE EVERYTHING THAT THE COMMUNITY DOES TO COME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT THE ECONOMIC COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT. SO GREAT JOB TO YOU. AND ALSO YOU KNOW YOU HAVE SHAT OUT IS BGF ON A GREAT EVENT AS WELL, BUT IT WAS AMAZING AND I REALLY ENJOYED IT. PERFECT TESTIMONIAL RIGHT THERE. EXTEND THE HOURS IN MY 15 STOPS, ACTUALLY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. KENNY PARKS AND REC. MIKE AGAIN. 15 MARGARITAS WHO WAS DRIVING HOME. IT'S HARD TO FOLLOW GREGORY, DOES YOU MORNING AGAIN. YOU KNOW, I LOVE COMING HERE AND TALKING ABOUT PROJECTS THEY'RE COMING TO CONCLUSION. SO WE HAVE SOME GREAT PROJECTS. COTTONWOOD PARK SHOULD BE FINISHED THIS YEAR FINCH PARK AS WELL. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE SENIOR RECREATION CENTER RENOVATIONS ON PACE GET DONE EARLY NEXT YEAR. AN OLD SETTLERS RECREATION CENTER. WHAT A GREAT PROJECT. EACH FALL. WE HOST A TOUR OF OUR FACILITIES AND PARKS PROJECTS WITH CDC AND, OF COURSE, OUR PARKS BOARD. WE'RE HOPEFUL THAT HAVE THAT AGAIN THIS YEAR, MAYBE A LITTLE TWIST TO IT. WE DO HAVE OUR NEW BUS, WHICH YOU LOOKS KINDLY ASSISTED
[00:40:02]
WITH US OBTAINING. MAYBE SOME PRIVATE VEHICLES AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE, BUT WE'RE EXCITED TO DO A HARD HAT TOUR AND SHOW OFF ALL THE GREAT STUFF THAT'S COMING ALONG. SPEAKING OF SPECIAL EVENTS THIS PAST WEEKEND, WE HAD A PRETTY SPECIAL EVENT AT THE APEX CENTER TRAVELLER. HOSTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE QUIETEST CLUB ON MCKINNEY. 300 PARTICIPANTS. WE DID EVERYTHING WE COULD TO MAKE SURE IT'S SAFE AND FUNNY EVENT AND THE FEEDBACK HAS BEEN FANTASTIC. I WAS A GAME NESBITT PARK. WE CLOSED DOWN PARTS OF ALVARADO AND ALMOND, WHICH ROAD FOR THE BICYCLE PORTION OF IT, AND I HAD A CHANCE TO GO THERE AND WATCH AND PEOPLE ARE JUST HAPPY TO BE OUT. HAD TO BE EXERCISED HIMSELF. ON A GREAT EVENT. WE ARE TRYING TO INTRODUCE MORE OUTDOOR EVENTS INTO OUR PARK SYSTEM, YOGA CLASSES OF FITNESS CLASSES. THOSE WERE GROWING. TELL YOU WHAT. THAT OUTDOOR FITNESS COURT IT'S ONE THE BEST ADDITIONS MADE TO OUR PARK SYSTEM IN RECENT MEMORY. I HAD A CHANCE TO GO OUT THERE A COUPLE SERIOUS SERIES AGO AND HELD KIND OF AN IMPROMPTU PUBLIC INPUT MEETING THERE ABOUT 15 PEOPLE WORKING OUT IN THE MORNING, SO I'LL BE HUDDLED UP AND I SAID WHAT GOOD BAD AND WAS 90% GREAT. ICE CORRECTS THAT WAS A BIG ONE. GOOD PEOPLE WILL LIKE THERE, WHICH IS A GREAT THING TO DO AND SHADE. GOOD NEWS. WE'RE ADDING SHADE THIS WEEK, SO WE FOUND SOME FUNDING THE DIFFERENT SOURCES AND BRING A GIANT SHADE STRUCTURE OVER THE ENTIRE FEATURE, SO IT IS POST OUT RIGHT NOW TOGETHER. WE'RE ALSO PUTTING SHADE STRUCTURES THAT BODY WINKY ALL ABILITIES. PLAYGROUND AREA, WE DISCOVERED A FEW AREAS SWINGS AND WHAT NOT THAT COULD BENEFIT FROM SHADE. SO DOES YOUR BEING RETROFITTED AS WELL. SO JUST A TESTAMENT TO MY TEAM AND THEY'RE INTERESTED. KEEP GETTING BETTER. NOT SETTLE, KEEP TWEAKING AND IMPROVING SO GREAT FEEDBACK OVERALL THERE. SPOKE ABOUT THE PARKS FOUNDATION AT THE VERY START, SO WE TRIED OUR BEST AS EXECUTIVE STAFF TO GET OUT AND GET OUR HANDS DIRTY. SO WE DO JOIN THE PARKS FOUNDATION FOR VOLUNTARY EVENTS. SO ABOUT A MONTH AGO, WE DID THE GREENS, MCKINNEY, THE FORMER GOLF COURSE SO MYSELF WITH SOME OF MY EXECUTIVE STAFF PARTNERED WITH THE PARKS FOUNDATION. HE BUILT BENCHES OUT THERE, DECLARED WEEDS AROUND THE PONDS DID A BUNCH OF GREAT WORK AND I BRING IT UP? BECAUSE THE TOOLS THAT YOU FOLKS SPONSORED AND HELPED OUT WHAT A GREAT THING. THEY PULLED UP AT THE TRAILER, THE FOUNDATION AND THE TOOLS ARE THERE THEY TRAIN US FOR ABOUT, YOU KNOW, 10 MINUTES OR SO ABOUT HOW TO USE IT WERE OFTEN RUNNING. THEY BRING IT ALL BACK. A CITY. WE PURCHASED A STORAGE TRAILER ON KEEPING OUR PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY SO THEY CAN STORE EVERYTHING THERE, SO IT'S SEAMLESS. IT'S QUICK.IT'S EASY TO VOLUNTEER. SO ENCOURAGE EVERYBODY TO CHECK OUT THEIR WEBSITE. THE VOLUNTARY EVENTS. IT'S REALLY COMING ALONG GREAT. AND SOME SOME SAD NEWS THIS YEAR. MANY OF YOU KNOW, TIM, WAIT OUR PARKS MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT. WITH THE CITY FOR 31 YEARS, MUCH OF WHICH IN THAT SENIOR LEADERSHIP POSITION HE'S RETIRING, UM, RETIRES END OF THIS MONTH, SO I JUST WANT TO GIVE UP A PUBLIC THANK YOU TO HIM FOR EVERYTHING HE'S DONE FOR OUR CITY. HE STARTED HERE BACK IN THE DAY WAS 20,000 PEOPLE. UH HE HAD A STAFF AND COUNT PROBABLY KIND OF ONE HAND, SO IT'S PRETTY REALLY IMPRESSIVE WHAT HE'S DONE FOR OUR CITY. WE HAVE BEGUN THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS. I WILL SAY THAT MCKINNEY SHINES BRIGHT ACROSS THE NATION. WE RECEIVED 97 APPLICATIONS, THE VAST MAJORITY FROM OUT OF STATE. WE COULD HAVE HIRED PROBABLY 15 OR 20 FROM JUST ON PAPER AND BEEN FANTASTIC. TIM. IT'S GREAT SHOES AND BIG SHOES TO FILL, BUT I'M CONFIDENT THAT THE NEXT PERSON CAN COME IN WITH. A DIFFERENT SPIRIT AND FRESH EYES. LOOK AT THAT NEXT GENERATION OF MARKS. SO WITH THAT MADAME CHAIR OF STANFORD QUESTIONS. DO YOU HAVE PLANS FOR A SECOND FITNESS? D'OH.
YEAH, SO ACTUALLY RE CALLING IT. YEAH. NOT FITNESS. FITNESS COURT NATIONAL FITNESS CAMPAIGN.
IN FACT, I'VE GOT TO MENTION THAT MCKINNEY IS ALSO HIGHLIGHTED ON THEIR WEBSITE IS A NATIONAL LEVEL CITY PARTNER. SO IT'S VIDEO THAT I PUT TOGETHER THAT'S ON THERE, AND IT SHOWS HOW IT'S MCKINNEY ALONG WITH FOUR OTHER CITIES ACROSS THE NATION, SO THAT'S A HUGE KUDO FOR US. WE'RE SET, UH, GRANT FOR TWO MORE. IN THE COMING YEAR OR SO. THIS ONE IS OUR TEST CASE. OUR PILOT PROGRAM AND IT'S WORKING OUT PRETTY WELL. HEARD THE NEXT ONE. WE'RE HOPEFUL THAT GET IN. I'LL STAY BY A YEAR FROM NOW BASED ON THE GRAND CYCLE AND EVERYTHING. HE HAD SOME COUCHES AND A TV. GREAT JOB TO YOU AND YOUR TEAM AND FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU'RE BRINGING, I MEAN THAT. WE HAVE SOME IMMACULATE PARKS, AND I KNOW THAT IT'S FROM YOUR STAFF AND THEIR DEDICATION AND YOUR LEADERSHIP. I MEAN, YOU TALK ABOUT. THEY WOULD BE AS GREAT AS THEY ARE. IT WASN'T FOR YOU. SO THE LEADERSHIP, YOU KNOW, DRIVES
[00:45:03]
THE EMPLOYEES, TEO BE THEIR BEST. SO I JUST KUDOS TO YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO IN YOUR LEADERSHIP. THIS TIME TAKING OFF SNAKES WITH HIM WHEN HE GOES, I HOPE TO BE NICE. UM, I GOT A CALL ABOUT SNAKES NOW. INKING FIGURE. ITEM 200830 PRESIDENT'S REPORT. THANK YOU,[President’s Report]

THERE WAS A LOT OF PUNCTUATION. DID YOU REALLY I'LL TRY AND MAKE IT A LITTLE BIT LESS. UH
[00:50:10]
APPRECIATE YOU LETTING ME BE HERE FOR THE BOARD TODAY. MY NAME'S MILES PRESTON. AND WAY WANTED TO GO OVER AGAIN A LITTLE BIT. A RECAP OF. OF THE PRESENTATION. I DID, AND I'VE MADE A COUPLE OF CHANGES ON SOME OF THE SLIDES AND I'LL PROBABLY SPEND. MORE OF MY FOCUS ON ON THOSE TWO SLIDES KIND OF SHOWING YOU THE CHANGE IN THE IN THE MASTER PLAN AND KIND OF THE REASONS FOR IT. BUT BEFORE I GO DOWN THERE, I WANTED TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT UPDATE SINCE OUR LAST MEETING HERE. WE HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF THINGS HAPPENED WHICH REALLY HAVE CONTINUED TO MOVE THE PROJECT ALONG. PETER MENTIONED THAT ON THE 19TH OF AUGUST, KAIZEN ANNOUNCED THE. THEIR OFFICE BUILDING IN DISTRICT 1 21, WHICH IS A HUGE HURDLE FOR US. AND THE BC AND THE CITY WORKED HARD TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN. AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.AND THEN FOLLOWING THAT, ON THE 26TH OF AUGUST. WE HAD A REALLY EIGHT KICKOFF MEETINGS. WITH THE CITY AND KAISER AND US AND THIS WAS A KEY MEETING AND IT REALLY LAID A ROAD MAP OUT. FOR GETTING THE CAISSON PROJECT FROM. FROM REALLY ITS INFANCY TO GETTING A BUILDING PERMIT.
AND SO WE HAD ABOUT 15 PEOPLE AT THE JOHN AND JUDY GAY LIBRARY WITH THE CITY. WE HAD THE DISTRICT 1 21, OUR ENGINEER, CAISSONS ENGINEER. CAISSONS ARCHITECT WAS THERE WE HAVE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT THERE. ALL FACETS OF THE CITY, WHERE THERE JENNIFER ARNOLD KIND OF LEAD. THE PROCEEDING. OH, AND SHE BROUGHT BRANDON OH PL ALONG, WHICH. BOTH OF THEM HAVE BEEN JUST OUTSTANDING TOE WORK WITH ON DH REALLY WAS OUR INTRODUCTION. YOU KNOW, WE WORK WITH THE CITY AND HAVE BEEN HERE FOR SUCH A LONG TIME. BUT. GUYS. IT'S NEW, SO WE REALLY WANTED TO GET THEM INVOLVED. MEET THE PLAYERS AT THE CITY AND THE COMMITMENT AND THEY CAME AWAY. REALLY WITH THE POSITIVE FEEDBACK ON. ON KIND OF THE CITY'S INTEREST IN MOVING THE PROJECT ALONG AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE SO THAT WAS A GREAT MEETING ON THE 26TH AND THEN FURTHER FROM THAT PART OF THE MEETING WAS REALLY TO TALK ABOUT. THE LATEST SITE PLAN TO WITH THEM, AND SO WE GOT A LOT OF GOOD FEEDBACK FROM THAT MEETING. WE HAVE NOW SUBMITTED THE SITE PLAN. TO THE CITY FOR DISTRICT 1 21 THAT WAS SUBMITTED ON THE EIGHTH OF SEPTEMBER. WE SHOULD BE HEARING BACK FROM THE CITY HERE THIS THIS WEEK OR EARLY NEXT WEEK ON THEIR FIRST COMMENTS ON THE SITE PLAN. HE ALSO STARTED PULLED THE TRIGGER ON THE INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN FROM OUR ENGINEERING STANDPOINT FOR PHASE ONE OF DISTRICT 1 21. AND THE SAME MIDDLE OF THAT, ALONG WITH THE PRELIMINARY FINAL. PLATT THAT WILL HAPPEN PROBABLY.
IN THE FIRST WEEK OR SO IN OCTOBER. SO A LOT OF THINGS HAPPENED REALLY SINCE OUR LAST MEETING, BUT LET ME KIND OF GO THROUGH. THE PRESENTATION A LITTLE BIT. AND AGAIN, I WANTED TO KIND OF PIGGY BACK A LITTLE BIT ON WHAT PETER WAS SAYING. JUST A. YOU KIND OF PUT A PLACE IN A NAME KIND OF FOR SOME OF THE PROJECTS THAT. PETER WAS TALKING ABOUT IN IN CRAIG RANCH.
AND OF COURSE, HERE IS DISTRICT 1, 21 121 PETER MENTIONED THAT RPM X. WHICH WAS A COMPLICATED NEGOTIATION WITH CITY AND E V. C, BUT THEY THEY DID IT IN. IT'S REALLY A GREAT AMOUNT OF TIME. RPM. MAX IS GOING RIGHT THERE. ON A 4.431 ACRE SITE. AH VAN TRUST ANNOUNCED A SITE RIGHT HERE, WHICH IS 115,000 SQUARE FEET. BACK ABOUT FOUR MONTHS AGO. UH OF COURSE, INDEPENDENT BANK WE MET WITH MR BROOKS JUST LAST WEEK, AND THEY ARE NOW PULLING THE TRIGGER ON ANOTHER PHASE OF THEIR. BUILDING HERE, WHICH IS THE SECOND PHASE, WHICH SHOULD BE RIGHT NEXT TO THEIR CURRENT. 160,000 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING, SO AH, LOT OF ACTIVITY REALLY GOING ON ON VERTICAL AND SOME AS PETER SAID, YOU WERE GOING TO EVEN HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF SPECT INVENTORY. ON THE BALANCE OF THE INDEPENDENT BANK. I MEAN, RPM EXCITE, SO IT'S AH, I THINK THAT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT PLUS NOT ONLY, OF COURSE FOR THE CAIS INSIGHT, WHICH IS RIGHT AT THAT. THAT HARD CORNER. THIS IS, OF COURSE, THE ORIGINAL SITE PLAN AND AN RPG.
THREE. WE HAVE TO ARE THE SITE PLAN THAT WE SUBMITTED ON THE EIGHTH OF SEPTEMBER WILL BE
[00:55:07]
SUPPLANTED BY THIS ONE. SO WE'LL BE NOW THE NEW SITE PLAN WILL BE PART OF THAT NEW P D.THIS ONE WILL GO. SO THAT'S PART OF THE PROCESS THAT WE HAD TO FOLLOW UNDER THE CURRENT CD.
HERE IS THE CURRENT PLAN, BUT JUST TO SHOW YOU A LITTLE BIT THAT'S GOING ON. OF COURSE, PARKSIDE. THEY'RE FINISHING THEIR FIFTH PHASE RIGHT NOW. COLD PARK. HAS TOPPED THIS PROJECT OUT OF THEIR FIRST PHASE OF URBAN RESIDENTIAL AXIOM AT 1 21 OPENED UP ABOUT THREE MONTHS AGO. THERE JUST ABOUT COMPLETE WITH SOME OF THE RETAIL ON THE FRONTAGE. I NOTICED THAT STEEL NOW IS GOING UP ON THE BUILDINGS FOR HUB WON 21 WHICH IS GREAT TO SEE. AND THEN OF COURSE, S RS THIE OFFICE BUILDING 100 THOUSANDS PER FEET ON THE CORNER. THEY ARE HAVING THE GRAND OPENING. I THINK IN THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS AND THEY'RE MOVING IN, SO A LOT OF A LOT OF ACTIVITY GOING ON IN AND AROUND DISTRICT 1 21. THE MAIN THING I WANTED TO FOCUS WAS REALLY ON THESE TWO SLIDES. THIS ONE IN THIS ONE TODAY. AND TO SHOW YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT DROVE SOME OF THE CHANGES. THE MAIN CHANGE WAS WHEN WE WERE WORKING WITH.
KAIZEN AND THEIR OFFICE BUILDING, WHICH IS REALLY A KEY COMPONENT. TO DISTRICT 1 21 AND WE HAD TO GET THERE. THEY'RE REALLY BUILDING ENVELOPE, CORRECT. AND ORIGINALLY WE HAD THE WE HAD THE. THE PARKING GARAGE. THIS STREET WAS A EAST WEST STREET KIND OF THE MAIN FIRE LANE. AND IT IT SET UP A GEOMETRY ON THE PARKING GARAGE THAT WAS INEFFICIENT. AND SO.
YOU CAN SEE NOW THE RESULTS OF THAT NOW THE EAST WEST FIRE LING COMES IN, AND NOW IT'S ANGLE'S A LITTLE BIT TO THE NORTH NORTH EAST. WHICH CREATES A SQUARE OFFICE BUILDING. I MEAN PARKING GARAGE THAT MAKES SUCH A BIG DIFFERENCE. THE ORIGINAL DESIGN HAD 390 SQUARE FOOT AVERAGE PARKING SPACE. THIS ONE AS 325 AVERAGE PARKING SPACE, AND IT MAY NOT SOUND THAT BIG OF DEAL THAT'S A 16% REDUCTION. FROM 3 92 3 25 SAVES ABOUT $2 MILLION ON THAT PARKING GARAGE, AND THAT WAS KEY TO MAKE THE NEGOTIATION WITH THE CITY. AND THE ANC AYSEN TO MAKE THAT OFFICE BUILDING AND PARKING GARAGE ING GARAGE MORE EFFICIENT. AND SO THAT CHANGED UP A LITTLE BIT OF THE DYNAMICS ON THE EAST WEST STREET AND ALSO THE NORTH SOUTH, WHICH WAS OVER HERE NOW MOVED A LITTLE BIT FURTHER WEST. SO WE REALLY WERE WANTING TO REALLY CONCENTRATE ON THE CORE. OF WHAT, REALLY THE HEARTBEAT OF DISTRICT 1 21 IS WHICH IS THE RETAIL AROUND THE PARK. AND REALLY THE RETAIL AROUND THE PARK REALLY HASN'T CHANGED. THEY'RE BOTH ABOUT EXACTLY THE SAME SQUARE FOOTAGE AS THE PREVIOUS PLAN. AND WE GO BACK AND SHOW YOU THAT. AND THIS PLAN, THE TOO MANY BUTTONS HERE. THIS PLAN HERE. THIS CORE REALLY IS ABOUT THE SAME SQUARE FOOTAGE AS AS THE PREVIOUS CORE. THIS BUILDING REALLY A STATE IN THE NEW PLANETS A LITTLE SMALLER. THIS IS THE ONLY BUILDING THAT PROBABLY HAS CHANGED. AND THIS WAS OUR DIFFERENT MOST DIFFICULT. BUILDING ANYWAY TO LEASE IT'S AN INTERIOR RETAIL SITE, WHICH IS ALWAYS MORE DIFFICULT THAT DOESN'T HAVE FRONTAGE ON THE STREETS WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE NEW PLAN. HAS STILL HAS THE RETAIL AROUND THE CORE. IT STILL HAS THE RETAIL HERE, BUT IT HAS FRONTING SITUATION ON ALMA AND THE INTERIOR RETAIL AS FRONT ON THE PARK, SO IT IT BECOMES. REALLY MORE VIABLE. YOU CAN SEE AND ALSO WITH THE RETAIL JUST TO SHOW YOU. REALLY THE. WHEN THE RETAIL CHANGED. IN FACT, THAT CHANGED ABOUT.
ABOUT 27% LESS RETAIL FROM THIS PLAN TO THE OTHER, BUT IT JUST DIDN'T GO AWAY. THAT THAT LAND WAS USED FOR OTHER THINGS. IT'S NOT LIKE THE PLAN. YOU CAN SEE. THIS PLAN HERE HAS WON TWO OFFICE BUILDINGS. AH HOTEL AND THE RETAIL. A NEW PLAN HAS THREE OFFICE BUILDINGS HOTEL AND THE RETAIL SO REALLY THE SQUARE FOOTAGE. LOSS WAS NOT LOST. IT WAS JUST NOW WE HAVE MORE OFTHIS CAPABILITY. AND OF COURSE, WE'RE STILL LIKE THE ABILITY TO PUT A HOTEL IN THERE. THIS THIS GENERALLY IS THE FIRST PHASE. OF DISTRICT 1 21, AND THIS IS THE FLEX AREA.
NO, WE THINK THAT WE'D LOVE TO SEE A KIND OF A TERMINUS BUILDING HERE ON THE END OF
[01:00:01]
THIS MAIN EAST WEST STREET, AND MAYBE IT'S THE HOTEL'S DOWN THERE AND MAYBE OFFICE BUILDING MOVES HERE. WE DON'T REALLY KNOW, BUT WE DO THINK THERE'S ABILITY TO FLEX THIS AND REALLY ADAPTED THE MARKET. BUT OUR CORE IS HERE. WE'RE GONNA BE BUILDING IN. LIKE I SAID THE INFRASTRUCTURE WILL BE COMING FROM THE SOUTHEAST CORNER. PURSUER AND STORM WILL PUT IN THIS ROAD WILL PUT IN THE EAST WEST ROAD AND WE'LL BUILD THESE THREE BUILDINGS AND THE PARK IS PHASE ONE. WE'RE GOING TO BE OFFERING THIS BUILDING. IN OUR RETAIL, SO IT MIGHT BE IN PHASE ONE AS WELL. IF WE LEASE IT, WE'RE GOING TO BUILD IT BECAUSE IT'S INTEGRAL TO THE PART CERTAINLY OF DISTRICT 1 21. THIS IS JUST I PUT A YEAH, GO AHEAD. IF AS YOU LEARN MORE ABOUT THE MARKET. AND FIND LIKE THAT THE HOTEL IS NOT VIABLE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. THAT COULD BE RETAIL OR OFFICE. ABSOLUTELY IN THIS SITE HERE. I THINK THIS SITE REALLY COULD BE RETAIL AS WELL. IN FACT, WE HAD SOMEBODY COME IN A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. WE'VE TALKED TO HIM BECAUSE IT DOES HAVE DIRECT FRONTAGE ON 1 21, WHICH RETAIL LIKES AND IT ALSO. IS AT THE CORNER OF THE DIESEL LANE IN THE MAIN NORTH SOUTH EAST WEST STREET. SO THERE'S SOME, THERE IS CERTAINLY SOME VIABILITY HERE FOR OTHER USES. BUT YOU KNOW, THE HOTEL KAIZEN LIKES TO HAVE A HOTEL. JUST BECAUSE IT'S YOU KNOW, THIS WAS KIND OF PATTERN AFTER IN A LOFT TYPE OF FOOTPRINTS, YOU KNOW, KIND OF EDGY THAT WOULD FIT IN WITH. I THINK THIS WHOLE PROJECT SO I THINK THAT WOULD BE A THAT WOULD BE REALLY GOOD. AH, GOOD FIT. THIS SHOWS YOU PHASE ONE.AGAIN THIS CORE THIS NORTH SOUTH STREET. THIS EAST WEST FIRE LANE WILL BE BUILT, OF COURSE. KAISER WILL BE BUILT AND HERE'S THE BUILDINGS FOR PHASE ONE. IN THIS INTERSECTION, BUT ALSO WILL BE A DIESEL LANE HERE GOING IN, AND ALSO THERE IS A HOODED ENTRY THAT WILL BE BUILDING ON ALMA SO. THE SOUTH BOUND ALL MCCANN ENTER INTO DISTRICT 1 21 AS WELL. THIS SHOWS YOU REALLY THE EIGHT STOREY BUILDING THAT KAIZEN IS PROPOSING KIND OF IN THE BACKDROP OF DISTRICT 1 21. THIS IS NOT THE FINAL ONE. BUT THIS IS THE DRAWING THAT THEY CAME OUT WITH WHEN THEY. HAD THEIR 19TH OF AUGUST HAD THEIR, UH, PRESS RELEASE, BUT THEY'RE NOW IN THE NEXT PHASE OF THAT FACT. WE JUST GOT SOME RECENTLY AND THEY'RE HOPING TO SUBMIT THAT TO THE CITY IN AND HERE IN THE NEXT MONTH OR SO. AND THIS SHOWS YOU A LITTLE BIT. ABOUT THE VISUAL THE VISUAL, REALLY? HAS CHANGED A LITTLE BIT, BUT NOT THAT MUCH. THE STREET NOW COMES RIGHT IN HERE. THIS REALLY IS VIRTUALLY THE SAME. THIS BUILDING IS JUST MORE RECTANGULAR. THEN, OF COURSE. YOU SEE THE OFFICE BUILDING. THIS DEPICTS AN ORIGINAL PLANNING OFFICE BUILDING THERE AND IN HOTEL ON THE EAST. SIGN. THIS AGAIN SHOWS THE GOOD THING WE'RE RIGHT NOW WAY HAVE. I'VE SUBMITTED. I'VE GOT THREE ARCHITECTS THAT ARE SUBMITTING PLANS OR PROPOSALS FOR THIS. I'VE ALREADY GOT ONE IN AND I SHOULD RECEIVE THE OTHER TWO.
BY THE END OF TOMORROW, AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO START VISIONING OF WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE AND THEN FINISHED THE DESIGN AND REALLY MAKE THIS PARK WHAT WHAT WERE INTENDED IT TO BE, WHICH IS, YOU KNOW, NOT JUST GRASS. YOU KNOW, WE'RE GONNA. GRASS IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE AROUND AGAIN AROUND THAT STAGE AREA. WE'VE GOT A 16 BY NINE, UH, LED SCREEN THAT WILL BE HERE THAT WILL BE ABLE TO USE FOR. PROGRAMMING FOR MOVIES FOR MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL FOR.
ART FOR BACKGROUND, MUSIC AND VISUALS. WHY YOU'RE EATING LOTS OF THINGS, CULTURAL EVENTS. I MEAN, THERE'S GOING TO BE A TRULY GOING TO BE A FUN THING TO BE ABLE TO ENLIGHTEN AND REALLY PROGRAM. THE PARK. THIS AREA IS GOING TO BE A SIRI'S OF OUTDOOR ROOMS. FIRE PITS, TREES, LANDSCAPING. AH, PLACE WHERE YOU COULD DO A KIOSK FOR EVENT. YOU KNOW, WE LOVE THE IDEA OF KIOSK. IN FACT, I WROTE DOWN A NOTE ABOUT THE BLOOD BOX. WHAT IS IT A BLOCK IN A BOX? BETTER BLOCKING ABOUT BETTER BLOCKING THE BOX. I MAY NEED THAT. I'M GOING TO COME DOWN HERE ON MONDAY. AND LOOK AT THAT. IS IT MIGHT YOU KNOW, WE'RE THINKING ABOUT MAYBE YOU COULD DO SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN SET UP FOR AN EVENT. IT MAY BE THAT MAY BE PERFECT FOR THAT.
YOU KNOW, I LOVE THAT. AND YOU KNOW, WE'RE THINKING ABOUT. YOU KNOW, SETTING IT UP FOR IF YOU HAD WINE AND DYING, AND YOU KNOW, MAYBE ONE OF THE RESTAURANTS WOULD ALLOW THEM TO
[01:05:02]
USE THE. KIOSK FOR THAT EVENT, MAKE SAILS OUT OF IT. AND THEN YOU KNOW NEXT WEEK LITTLE, NOT ANOTHER ANOTHER RESTAURANT USES. SO BE KIND OF A FUN THING. TO BE ABLE TO USE, BUT SO THAT THAT'S GOING TO BE FUN TO GET INTO THAT, AND WE'RE REALLY ON THE CUSP OF DOING THAT NOW. EVEN NOW STARTED WORKING WITH THE CITY ON. WORKING WITH JEFF HARRIS AND JENNIFER ON SOME TYPE OF DIGITAL BOARD HERE. THAT REALLY COULD BE AN AVENUE THAT. IT REALLY COULD BE A GREAT EVENT FOR SHOWING WHAT'S GOING ON IN DISTRICT 1 21 AND YOU KNOW IT MIGHT HAVE TO BE ABLETO RAISE SOME FUNDS THAT MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP PROGRAM THIS. WE'RE ALSO MENTIONED IN THE CITY AND JEFF AND JENNIFER. ABOUT ALSO USING THIS FOR CITY EVENTS, YOU KNOW, IT'S A GREAT IT'S RIGHT AT THE ENTRANCE ON 1 21 COMING INTO THE CITY. YOU KNOW YOU COULD YOU COULD ADVERTISE, YOU KNOW, BEER OCTOBER FAST. YOU KNOW, BIKE, THE BRICKS AND DOWNTOWN MCKINNEY FOR DIFFERENT EVENTS THAT THE CITY WANTS TO PROMOTE. SO IT MIGHT BE A GOOD THING FOR NOT ONLY FOR DISTRICT 1 21 IN THIS AREA, BUT WE CAN USE IT FOR THE CITY AS WELL.MILES WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS, UH. TOLD ME TO BRING IT UP. YOU KNOW, LIKE HE BEAT YOU TO IT. I THINK IT'S GREAT. I'D ALSO LIKE YOU GUYS. WELL, I SORRY. WE INVESTED A LOT IN SUPPORTING IN AH, THIS TYPE OF DEVELOPMENT. WE ALSO HAVE AH, PASSION FOR SUPPORTING NONPROFITS AROUND CITY AND THE EVENTS THAT THEY HAVE FOR FUNDRAISERS. AND. GIVEN THE PROMINENCE OF THIS ON 1 21, WE WOULD SINCERELY LIKE YOU TO CONSIDER. NOT JUST CITY EVENTS, NOT JUST THE BIG ONES YOU HEAR ABOUT OCTOBER FEST. WHAT THE. WITH THE YOU KNOW. THE FUND RUN THE VARIOUS THINGS THAT ARE NON PROFITS THAT AIR CDC SUPPORTED ARE PUTTING OUT AND. AND KIND OF A PRO BONO KIND OF WAY BECAUSE THESE PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD THAT. ABSOLUTELY AND WE THINK IT'S A REALLY GOOD VALUE ADD FOR OUR INVESTMENT HEARED THAT WERE ALSO KILLING MANY.
MANY OFFERS ONE STONE, IF YOU THINK THAT WOULD BE A GREAT I THINK THAT WOULD BE A GREAT USE AND. NO, WE EXPECT TO HAVE THOSE TYPE OF, UH, YOU KNOW EVENTS TO AND REALLY THAT COMMONS AREA OF DISTRICT WANT 21 WILL BE ABLE TO DO. NO VENTS FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY AND WOULD BE A GREAT GENESIS FOR THAT, BUT I THINK THAT'S A GREAT IDEA. BECAUSE WE'RE GOING TO KEEP BRINGING IT UP. THIS SHOWS YOU A LITTLE BIT OF THE KIND OF THE OUTDOOR ROOM CONCEPT THAT WE TALKED ABOUT. THE KIOSK. THIS CHAOS. THIS IS KIND OF A TEMPORARY ONE YOU COULD BRING IN. THIS IS MORE OF A PERMANENT LOOK. WE'RE KIND OF LEANING TOWARDS A TEMPORARY. UH BUT LOVED TO LOOK AT THE BLOCK IN THE BOX. THIS SHOWS YOU ONE OF EVENTS. THIS IS AT SOUTH LAKE TOWN CENTRE OF THE ARTS CHART WOULD LOVE LOVE TO HOST ONE OF THOSE. THIS GIVES YOU A LITTLE BIT IDEA OF ONE OF THE CONCEPT WAS IN THE BACK OF THE. OF THE RETAIL MEAN LOOK OUT INTO THE COMMONS AREA, WHICH WE THINK WOULD BE AN EXCITING DESIGN AGAIN KIND OF MORE CONCEPTUAL. LOOKS OF THIS A CZ WELL. AND I WILL, AND I'M NOT GONNA SPEND A LOT OF TIME MCKINNEY STATION IS STILL AN IDEA THAT WE BROUGHT BEFORE THE CITY. WE'D LOVE TO SEE IT AS A CITY INITIATIVE. WE LIKE THE CONCEPT OF KIND OF CREATING AN ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT. WITH ENTRANCE MONUMENTS COMING IN LANDSCAPING. UH, YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, ENHANCED IN THE MEDIANS AND PARKWAYS LIGHTING, BOLLARD LIGHTS, ALL THAT STUFF WE THINK WOULD BE REALLY A COOL THING, AND CERTAINLY. ENHANCE THAT INTERSECTION. ALL MAN HANNEMAN, WHICH IS A WHICH REALLY IS A PEDESTRIAN. YOU KNOW, I DIDN'T TALK ABOUT IT. BUT STILL, WE'RE GONNA HAVE ABOUT 6000 PEOPLE LIVING. RIGHT AROUND THAT'S GOINGTO FLOOD INTO 1, 21 AND DISTRICT 1 21. SO IT'S A GREAT, YOU KNOW, GREAT WOULD BE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO DO THAT. ALSO. OF COURSE, OUR YOU KNOW, LOOKING AT OUR TRAIL SYSTEM, WHICH REALLY IS DESIGNED TO GET RIGHT DOWN TO THIS AREA, WHICH IS OUR CORE RETAIL, AND A LOT OF THIS HAS DONE INDEPENDENT BANK ARE 10 FT. I CAN BIKE TRAIL HAS ALREADY DONE ALL ALONG. HENNEMAN. RIGHT NOW. WE ARE. WE ARE GOING TO BE BUILDING A. LINEAR PARK THROUGH THE CORPORATE CENTER TO THAT AGAIN WILL FUND FROM THE HOTEL THROUGH THE LINEAR PARK. DOWN MY AIRWAY AND AGAIN FUN INTO THIS AREA. ALSO, THIS AREA NOW IS ALREADY DONE A CZ WELL, THIS HIKING BIKE PATH, THE CITY JUST TALKINTO MAJKOWSKI. JUST A

COUPLE WEEKS AGO THERE NOW DESIGNING THE BRIDGE. OVER THIS CREEK THAT GETS IT TO THE SOCCER WHICH THE SOCCER THEY'RE SPENDING ABOUT. $15 MILLION ON THIS FOR A PARK AND REDOING THEIR SOCCER, SO THIS REALLY HAS BEEN ENLIVENED. AND BE A GREAT ABILITY TO WALK AFTER YOU PARKED AND YOU'VE GOT AN HOUR. YOU CAN JUST WALK DOWN HERE TO DISTRICT 1 21 OR HUG 1 21. IT'S REALLY MEANT TO BE THAT CONNECTIVE ITY. THAT WE THINK IS GOING TO BE REALLY IMPORTANT.UH AND THE COMPASS, WHICH IS A PAVILION THAT THE CRAIG RANCH BUILT. IS RIGHT THERE AND THAT JUST OPENED UP, TOO. SO IT'S ANOTHER JUST EVENT THAT WE THINK IS REALLY DRIVING. THIS WHOLE AREA, WHICH WE THINK IS GOING TO BE A BIG PLUS. THINK THAT WAS THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH YET AND WE APPRECIATE APPRECIATE YOU. LOOKING AT THIS TODAY. AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE. I LIKE TO JUST GET YOUR CONFIRMATION ON SOMETHING WE TALKED ABOUT WITH TIMING. YEAH, UM THEORETICALLY. IT'S STILL ON TRACK. IF ASSUMING EVERYTHING WORKS WELL THAT EVERYTHING WOULD BE OPEN FOR BUSINESS IN TIME FOR NOT THIS YEAR'S. BYRON. BUT NEXT YEAR'S THAT'S THE KEY WE'RE LOOKING FOR IS MAY 22. BUT THERE IS EVEN A ONE THAT WERE REALLY PUSHING FOR AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO REALLY HUSTLE TO GET THAT. WE'D LOVE TO HAVE BEFORE MAY 10TH OF THIS YEAR'S BYRON NELSON, HAVE THIS. FULLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION. YOU KNOW, I'D LOVE TO HAVE A CRANE SITTING THERE AT THE CORNER OF ALL MONTH. 1 21. AND THAT'S THAT'S A POSSIBLE BUT THAT WOULD BE THAT WOULD BE GREAT, AND CERTAINLY THE BYRON NELSON IS A BIG DRIVER, AND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU KNOW WE HAVE THE TOURNAMENT HEADQUARTERS IS SET UP IN OUR OFFICE BUILDING. THEY JUST OPENED UP ABOUT, UH WEEKS AGO. AND THEY'VE GOT 2 TO 4.
PEOPLE THERE ALL TIME WORKING ON. THERE'S SO MUCH TO DO ON A PROJECT LIKE THAT, IN EVENT LIKE THAT. AND IT'S EXCITING TO SEE KIND OF BEHIND THE SCENES. OF WHAT GOES ON, SO YOU KNOW, THAT'S CERTAINLY A DRIVER FOR US ON TIMING AS WELL. JUST TO FURTHER SO, BASICALLY, THEY'RE GOING TO BE DOING KAIZEN BUILDING AND THE COMMONS. WE'RE GOING TO BE UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT THE SAME TIME. THE IT'LL PROBABLY BE THE SKIES AND I MEAN THE CASE IS ABOUT AN 18 MONTH BUILD AND THE COMMONS AND THE RETAILS ABOUT A 12 TO 14 MONTHS. SO WE'LL PROBABLY START AFTER JUST BECAUSE IT DOESN'T DO US ANY GOOD TO OPEN UP. IF WE DON'T HAVE THE PARKING GARAGE, SO YOU DON'T BE PROBABLY A LITTLE BIT LAYERING THEIR OPENING AROUND THE SAME TIME. OH, YEAH. ALL OF PHASE ONE IS AT THE SAME TIME. ABSOLUTELY. IF YOU KNOW THIS.
THIS PROBABLY DOESN'T WORK UNLESS WE HAVE THE PARK. WE GOT THE RETAIL AND WE HAVE THE OFFICE AND THAT'S THAT'S REALLY CRUCIAL AND WE EXPECT TO BE UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN DECEMBER, JANUARY ON THE INFRASTRUCTURE AND THE INFRASTRUCTURE'S ABOUT FOR FIVE MONTHS. ENDING ON HOW MUCH RAIN WE GET. IT'S NOT TOO MUCH, SO THAT WOULD BE, UH, IT'S A FAIRLY FLAT SITE, SO THE GRATING PART OF IT, SETTING THE PAD ELEVATIONS. SHOULDN'T TAKE THAT LONG. AND THAT'S A KEY FOR KAIZEN TO GET GOING. I NEED TO KNOW THAT PENELOPE. ANYBODY ELSE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? I'D LIKE CINDY JUST TO CLARIFY FOR THE BOARD THAT THE CHANGE IN RETAIL SQUARE FOOTAGE IS SO EVERYBODY'S AWARE. YEAH, THINK NOT A DUMB QUESTION. MY PART. I KNOW THE ANSWER, BUT I WANT EVERYONE AND I'M GOING TO MAKE A MOTION THAT'S GOING TO SPELL IT OUT BECAUSE IT'S EVEN SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT IS ON OUR AGENDA. SO I'M GOING TO MAKE THE MOTION THAT'S GONNA KIND OF SPELL OUT THE NEW SQUARE FOOTAGE. THE REASON THAT WE BROUGHT THIS BACK TO THE BOARD FOR ANOTHER LOOK WAS REALLY TWOFOLD. ONE THE PARK. OR THE COMMONS AREA WAS REDUCED SLIGHTLY, AND WE WERE SO SPECIFIC IN THE SIZE OF THE PARK IN THE FIRST GO AROUND THAT THE ADVICE THAT I GOT FROM THE CITY ATTORNEY WAS TO BRING IT BACK TO THE WARDS. EVERYBODY UNDERSTANDS. WHAT EXACTLY WE'RE LOOKING AT. AND THEN WITH THE CHANGE IN RETAIL IN THE OVERALL PROJECT, THE REDUCTION WAS ABOUT 27. THE SQUARE FOOTAGE OF RETAIL AROUND THE COMMONS AREA.
WAS AFFECTED SLIGHTLY, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THAT SITE PLAN REMAINS LARGELY THE SAME. BUT JUST TO BE CLEAR WITH YOU. FOLLOWED BOARD MEMBERS. WE'RE LOOKING AT AND WHAT YOU'RE BEING ASKED TO PROVE. IN THE PARK. IT CHANGED FROM 0.7 TO 0.65 JUST WITH THAT LITTLE RIGHT THERE THAT CUT IT OFF. GOOD. LIKE EVERYONE TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS.
[01:15:09]
I'LL BE RIGHT HERE. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. SO I'D LIKE TO MOVE TO APPROVE AMENDED. SO FIRST AFTER WE HAVE TO HAVE EMOTION CLOSE THE PUBLIC HAVE NO PUBLIC COMMENTS HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS. OKAY, THEN I NEED EMOTION TO CLOSE THE PUBLIC HEARING VERY PROBABLY A PUBLIC HEARING. SECONDED. SHIN BI ANGIE, SECOND BY RICK. OKAY? THE PUBLIC HEARING IS NOW CLOSED, SO I'D LIKE TO MOVE TO APPROVE AMENDED PROJECT 20-8 SUBMITTED BY DISTRICT 1 21 LLC IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,040,250. THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONSTRUCTION OF THE COMMONS AT DISTRICT 1 21, A MINIMUM 210.65 ACRE PRIVATELY OWNED AND MAINTAINED, PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE OPEN SPACE AND LANDSCAPED AREA, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO A STAGE WITH LED SCREEN. OUTDOOR ROOMS TO FIND WITH FLOOR PAPERS AND STAMPED CONCRETE CUSHION SEATING TABLES AND UMBRELLAS. OUTDOOR FIRE PITS CHILDREN'S PLAY AREA LIGHTING, SOUND SYSTEM AND SEATING FOR THE DISTRICT. 1 21 OFFICE, ENTERTAINMENT, RETAIL AND RESTAURANT MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT. ADJACENT TO CRAIG GRANT THAT WILL INCLUDE A MINIMUM OF 36,725 SQUARE FEET OF RETAIL RESTAURANT SPACE.29,725 SQUARE FEET PHASE 1 7000 SQUARE FEET FACE, TOO. I MOVE TO APPROVE THE PROJECT. AND I SECOND I MADE THE MOTION. I JUST NEED A SECOND. OKAY, I'LL SECOND I'M SECOND.
THE MOTION PASSES. THANK YOU MOUNTS FOR YOUR PRESENTATION AND THOROUGHNESS IN WITH THAT. MOVING ON TO ADAM TO ZERO. DESI RIGHT, 31 CONSIDER DISCUSS ACT
[Consider/Discuss/Act on a Request from Boys & Girls Club of Collin County to extend the term of the Loan Agreement, Executed with McKinney Community Development Corporation for Project #19-12, Effective August 22, 2019 from October 31, 2020 to February 28, 2021.]
ON THE REQUEST FROM BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB COLLIN COUNTY TO EXTEND THE TERM OF THE LOAN AGREEMENT EXECUTED WITH MCKINNEY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION FOR PROJECT 19-12 EFFECTIVE AUGUST 22ND 2019. OCTOBER 30TH 2020 FEBRUARY 28 2021. NOBODY. MADAM CHAIRMAN MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. WE GOT THIS REQUEST FROM BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB. THIS WAS A PROJECT GRANT APPROVED JUST ABOUT A YEAR AGO, AND THEY WERE ON SCHEDULE TO COMPLETE THEIR IMPROVEMENTS UNTIL. THEY HAD TO CLOSE FOR THE RESULT OF THE COVEN. IT WAS A RICHLY OCTOBER 31 OF THIS YEAR AND THEY'RE ASKING FOR FEBRUARY 28TH OF 2021. I MOVE. WE ACCEPT THAT REQUEST. A SECOND. EIRIK SECOND, MY ANGIE. MOTION PASSES, SO THEY HAVE THEIR EXTENSION. ITEM 200832 UPDATE ON MCKINNEY MONARCH INITIATIVE. WE'RE GOING TO KILL OFF THOSE[Update on McKinney Monarch Initiative.]
PESKY BUTTERFLIES. HER HEART ATTACK. RICK WAS MY CLASSMATE IN LEADERSHIP MCKINNEY 70 YEARS AGO. GOOD MORNING. MY NAME IS MARTHA COBB ALSO SPITS ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR HERE. THE CITY OF MCKINNEY. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME TO PRESENT TO YOU. AND BEFORE I GET STARTED, I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU JUST A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION. I'M HOUSED IN THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT AND MY MAIN RESPONSIBILITY. IS, UM, WATER CONSERVATION, WATERSHED PROTECTION, LITERAL BAIT, MINT BEAUTIFICATION AND RECYCLING. SO THAT IS MY MAIN FOCUS. UH, TODAY I'M GOING TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE BUTTERFLY PROGRAM. BUT BEFORE I GET INTO THE BUTTERFLY PROGRAM, I DO WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. OF THE NEWCOMER EVENT THAT WE HAVE HOSTED FOR THE LAST FOUR YEARS. ER WE'VE RECEIVED YOUR SUPPORT THE LAST TWO YEARS, AND THAT'S BEEN VERY HELPFUL. JUSTUS, AN OVERVIEW. OUR PEAK HERE, WHICH WAS 2018. WE HAD MORE THAN 1000 REGISTRANTS, UH, FROM A 19 COUNTY RADIUS THAT CAME TO MCKINNEY TO LEARN ABOUT[01:20:03]
GARDENING. THE EVENT, IS, UM, IS TAYLOR TO THE NEWCOMER TO THE AREA AND WHEN WE ASKED THEM TO REGISTER, WE INQUIRED WHERE THEY CAME FROM, AND HOW LONG THEY HAD BEEN HERE, AND IT WAS REALLY INTERESTING TO SEE THAT WE HAD PEOPLE FROM 48 STATES AND 27 COUNTRIES. SO THAT THEY THINK THAT GIVES US A SNAPSHOT OF ALL OF THESE NEW PEOPLE THAT ARE MOVING TO THE NORTH TEXAS AREA. UM SO THANK YOU FOR THAT FOR THAT SUPPORT. I AM HOPEFUL THAT WE WILL HAVE THE EVENT FOR THE FIFTH YEAR IN A ROW. THIS COMING JANUARY. OF COURSE, THE PANDEMIC HAS ALTERED EVERYTHING THAT WE'RE DOING, AND WE'RE KIND OF ON HOLD, BUT WE'LL SEE WHAT WE CAN DO FOR NEXT YEAR, SO. I WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN OVERVIEW ABOUT THE MONARCH PROGRAM AND ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THE MONARCHS SCULPTURES HAVE BEEN INSTALLED IN DOWNTOWN MCKINNEY. LET'S SEE HERE. JUST TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE MONARCH PROGRAM, YOU KNOW, IN KEEPING WITH THE CITY'S UNIQUE BY NATURE BRAND THIE MONARCH PROGRAM IS REALLY TAILOR TOO.PROVIDE AWARENESS ABOUT THE DECLINE AND MONARCHS FOR RESIDENTS EDUCATE THEM ABOUT CREATING HABITATS AND IMPROVING THE MONARCHS CORRIDOR THROUGH THE NORTH TEXAS AREA. MANY PEOPLE KNOW THAT MONARCHS HAVE AN ANNUAL MIGRATION THEY MIGRATE ABOUT 27,500 MILES TO MEXICO AND CALIFORNIA. IT'S THE WEIGHT OF A PAPER CLIP, AND THEIR LIFE SPAN IS 2 TO 6 WEEKS. THEIR HOST PLANT IS THE MILKWEED, AND THEY'RE ALSO A TEXAS STATE AND STICK INSECT.
THEY DON'T GET ALL THE POPULARITY OF THE BLUEBONNET DOES, BUT THEY REALLY ARE AN IMPORTANT INSECT. AND I THINK THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO HIGHLIGHT ABOUT THE MONARCHS IS THAT THEY ARE AN INDICATOR SPECIES. AND SO WHEN MONARCHS ARE DOING WELL, IT MEANS THAT WE HAVE IT. A BALANCED ECOSYSTEM AND WHEN THEY'RE NOT DOING WELL, IT MEANS WE DON'T AND THAT BRINGS ME TO THIS SLIDE IN THIS SLIDE SHOWS HOW THE MONARCH POPULATION HAS DECLINED OVER 90. OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS. AND THAT'S THAT'S YOU KNOW, ASTONISHING. AND UM, THIS IS REALLY, UM TAYLOR TO THE EASTERN MIGRATION, WHICH IS WHAT TEXAS IS A PART OF, BUT THE WESTERN MIGRATION HAS ACTUALLY DECLINED. BY 99% AND I WOULDN'T SAY THAT THEY'RE ON THE VERGE OF BEING EXTINCT. BUT THAT MIGRATION IS ABOUT TO COLLAPSE BECAUSE THERE ARE IN DANGER, ESPECIALLY WITH ALL THE WILDFLOWERS AND EVERYTHING WE'VE HAD IN THE LAST YEAR OR SO. DO WE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT HAPPENED? 03 OR FOUR THAT ALLOWED IT TO GO BACK UP? UM WHETHER WHETHER IT'S A BIG FACTOR, AND I'LL GET INTO SOME OF THE REASONS THAT HAS DECLINED. SO THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION CREATED A PROGRAM FOR CITIES TO GET INVOLVED IN. AND THIS IS A PROGRAM THAT SPANS NOT ONLY THE UNITED STATES BUT ALSO CANADA AND MEXICO. AND THEY CREATED THIS PROGRAM CALLED THE MAYOR'S MONARCH PLEDGE SO THAT CITIES COULD GET INVOLVED IN CREATING AWARENESS ABOUT THE MINOR. THE PLIGHT OF THE MONARCH. WE BECAME CITY NUMBER 363 AND IF YOU GO TO THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION WEBSITE AND CHECK OUT THE MAP, YOU CAN CLICK ON MCKINNEY AND IT'LL SHOW WHAT WE'RE DOING. SO THE NATIONAL BOTTLE I FEDERATION CREATED A LIST OF 25 ACTION ITEMS THAT CITIES COULD DO. AND YOU COMMIT TO THOSE ON AN ANNUAL BASIS, AND YOU REPORT ON THEM ON A SEMI ANNUAL BASIS, LETTING THEM KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, SO WE BECAME CITY NUMBER 363 MAYOR FULLER SIGNED A PROCLAMATION ON FEBRUARY 20TH AND I LOVE SHOWING THIS PICTURE AND YOU KNOW IT'S A STANDARD PICTURE OF A BUNCH OF PEOPLE HERE. COUNCIL CHAMBERS. BUT WHAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO KNOW IS THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE LITTLE BIT HE'S ARRANGING AN AGE FROM SIX OR SEVEN ALL THE WAY UP TO 80, AND YOU MAY NOT REMEMBER THIS, BUT I DO IN THAT THAT PARTICULAR DAY. IT WAS 32 DEGREES AND RAINING HORIZONTAL. IT WAS HORRIBLE WEATHER AND DESPITE THAT COUNCIL CHAMBER WAS FULL OF PEOPLE WHO WERE HERE TO SUPPORT THE PROGRAM. UH THIS PROGRAMME WAS INITIALLY STARTED BY ONE PARTICULAR RESIDENT AT TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN WHO HAD AN INTEREST IN BUTTERFLIES. AND SHE PARTNERED UP WITH SOMEONE IN THE D A R GROUP, THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION. THEY TOGETHER WENT TO MAYER FULLER, WHO THEN. COMMITTED TO SIGNING THE PLEDGE. AND THEN WE GOT STARTED WITH THE PROGRAM, SO WE COMMITTED TO NINE OUT OF THE 25 ITEMS. AND THESE ARE THE ITEMS THAT WE COMMITTED TO YOU START WITH THE PROCLAMATION. YOU HAVE A PUBLIC COMMUNICATION EFFORT, AND SO ON. UM SO BEFORE I GET INTO THAT, WHAT CAUSED THE DECLINE? A LOT OF PEOPLE ASK THAT AND. THIS IS WHAT CAUSED THE DECLINE THE CONVENTIONAL LANDSCAPE VERSUS THIE HABITAT LANDSCAPE. UM, THE. CONVENTIONAL LANDSCAPE,
[01:25:04]
ALTHOUGH YOU KNOW IT LOOKS NICE. IT REALLY ISN'T A NICO. UH VERY BALANCED ECOSYSTEM FOR OUR. INSECTS, THE HABITAT LANDSCAPE AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE'S PLENTY OF FLOWERS.THERE'S PLENTY OF, UH, PLACES FOR BIRDS AND POLLINATORS TO GO. BUT. NOT ANY ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE. UM, THE OTHER EXAMPLE IS OUR STATE HIGHWAYS. YOU KNOW OUR STATE HIGHWAYS THROUGHOUT THE AREA ARE FREQUENTLY MODE. IN SOME CASES, WE DON'T EVEN HAVE A MEDIAN WITH GRASS. IT'S CONCRETE BECAUSE WE'VE HAD TO EXPAND THE NUMBER OF LANES. WE'VE ALSO INCREASE THE USE OF CHEMICALS IN OUR LAWNS. AND THAT HAS DEFINITELY AFFECTED THE MONARCHS, PESTICIDES, HERBICIDES, FERTILIZERS, ALL THOSE THINGS CONTRIBUTE TO THE MONARCHS DECLINE. UM. SO MCKINNEY'S EFFORTS MCKINNEY'S EFFORTS ARE ARE VAST AND OUR MAIN GOAL IS TO CREATE A PICTURE FOR OUR RESIDENTS TO CREATE THAT PERFECT. LANDSCAPE IN THEIR YARD. WE WANT THEM TO HAVE THEIR LANDSCAPE BE THE WILDLIFE SUPERMARKET. YOU KNOW, WE'RE ALL FAMILIAR. I USED TO ALWAYS SAY THAT. YOU KNOW WHEN A HURRICANE HAPPENS OR TORNADO HAPPENS, THIS IS WHAT THE. SUPERMARKET SHELVES LOOKED LIKE WELL, WHEN COVE IT HAPPENS. WE ALL KNOW WE ALL REMEMBER THAT. AND UH, YOU KNOW, YOU'D GO TO THE STORY. THERE WAS NOTHING TO BUY. IF THAT IS THE SAME FOR A BUTTERFLY IF THEY GO TO THIS FRONT YARD HERE ON THE ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE. THERE'S NOTHING FOR THEM TO EAT. YOU KNOW, A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY I JUST DON'T SEE THE BUTTERFLIES WILL DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING FOR THEM TO EAT? NO. WELL, IF YOU DON'T, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO STOP IT. YOU'RE OUT, SO WE WANT TO CREATE A LANDSCAPE THAT LOOKS KIND OF LIKE THE MARKET STREET PRODUCE DEPARTMENT WITH A VAST MAJORITY OF, UH. A SELECTION OF DIFFERENT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES FOR EVERYONE TO EAT AND BE HEALTHY, AND THE SAME IS TRUE FOR MONARCH. SO DON'T EAT FIRE ANTS. PART ME STRICTLY VEGETARIAN, SO THAT ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS WE DID IS WE CREATED OUR MONARCH FOR SURE WHICH I JUST HANDED SOME TO LINDA AND SHE CAN PASS THOSE OUT. THE MONARCH BROCHURE IS JUST OUR MAIN BROCHURE TO LET THE WORLD KNOW ABOUT OUR MONARCH PROGRAM. I'VE BEEN WITH THE SAME NEARLY 13 YEARS, AND THERE'S NO OTHER BROCHURE BESIDES THE RECYCLING BROCHURE. WE'VE ACTUALLY REPRINTED THREE TIMES S. O THAT SHOWS THE POPULARITY OF THE PROGRAM. WE'VE GOT THE BROCHURE IN ENGLISH AND IN SPANISH. IT'S DOWNLOADABLE ON OUR WEBSITE. WE HAVE ALSO CREATED A ROBUST WEB SITE WITH LOTS OF INFORMATION AND LINKS AND VIDEOS WHERE PEOPLE CAN LEARN WHAT THEY NEED TO DO TO PLANT A GARDEN. UH WE HAVE A CHECKLIST THAT HELPS THEM. CREATE THE PERFECT GARDEN, AND THEY CAN ALSO REGISTER IT WITH THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION. WE HAVE A NEWSLETTER, WHICH IS EXTREMELY POPULAR. IT HAS OVER A 70% OPEN RATE WHERE RESIDENTS CAN LEARN ABOUT. DIFFERENT THINGS RELATED TO MONARCHS ALL YEAR. LONG WAY ALSO HAVE EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS.
UM, I'VE BEEN DOING EDUCATIONAL SEMINAR SINCE 2011. WHEN WE STARTED, THE EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS ARE AVERAGE ATTENDANCE FOR SEMINAR WAS ABOUT 28 PEOPLE. PERSIMMON ARE NOW WE'RE WELL OVER 110. OF COURSE, THE PANDEMIC HAS KIND OF ALTERED MY NUMBERS FOR THIS YEAR AND I'M.
REALLY UPSET ABOUT THAT, BUT, UH, WE DO NOT ONLY GET RESIDENTS FROM THE CITY OF MCKINNEY THAT COME, BUT MANY RESIDENTS FROM OTHER AREAS OTHER AREAS THAT DON'T HAVE ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS, WHETHER IT'S YOU KNOW MELISSA AND ARCEL, AINA OR PRINCETON OR EVEN. THE CITY OF ALAN. THEY ONLY OFFER THEIR SEMINARS FOR A FEW MONTHS, AND THE CITY OF FRISCO HAS DISCONTINUED MANY OF THEIR OUTREACH PROGRAMS LIKE THIS, THAT ALL THOSE PEOPLE ARE COMING TO MCKINNEY. I ALWAYS SAY IF YOU DON'T LIVE HERE, BUY A HOUSE HERE AND LET'S GO OUT TO EAT BECAUSE WE WANT THEM. TIO SPEND THEIR MONEY HERE IN MCKINNEY. UH I ALSO DO PRESENTATIONS AND OUTREACH THROUGHOUT THE CITY. LAST YEAR WAS MY PEAK YEAR. I HAD OVER 100 PRESENTATIONS AT SCHOOLS AND EVENTS AND WITH DIFFERENT GROUPS. WE'VE ALSO SEEN A 42% INCREASE IN OUR SEMINARS, WHICH IS REALLY NICE, AND THAT'S ALL ATTRIBUTED TO THE BUTTERFLY PROGRAM BECAUSE PEOPLE WANT TO GET INVOLVED. WE PARTNER WITH THE COLLIN COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS AND THE HEARD MUSEUM ON THEIR PLANT SALES. THEY ACTUALLY MARK ALL OF THE PLANTS FOR MONARCHS WITH OUR LOGO ON THEM, SO PEOPLE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO BUY. IT'S KIND OF A FOOL PROOF. WE ALSO HAVE THE YOU PLANTED PROGRAM AND WE HAD PLANTED TO DEMONSTRATION GARDEN.
THIS'S A DEMONSTN WE DID AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER OVER TOWN LAKE. LAST YEAR, AND THIS WAS PLANTED BY GIRL SCOUTS. WE SUPPLIED THE PLANTS. THEY SUPPLIED THE GIRL POWER AND GOT THOSE PLANTS INSTALLED IN THAT GARDEN IS REALLY LOOKING BEAUTIFUL. NOW UM, WE
[01:30:02]
ALSO PARTNERED WITH TEXAS AIN'T IN AGRA LIFE ON THERE, YOU PLANTED PROGRAM. THIS IS A PROGRAM THAT THEY LAUNCHED LAST YEAR. AND IT HAS BEEN EXTREMELY EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL. THEY BASICALLY CREATED A GARDEN IN THE BOX PROGRAM, WHERE IT WAS THE COLLECTION OF PLANTS ALL IN A BOX WITH A NEW, EASY DIAGRAM ON HOW TO PLANT AND WHERE TO PLANT AND. THEY, UH, HAD FOUR DIFFERENT PARTNERS IN THE PROGRAM. IT WAS THE NORTH TEXAS MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT, THE UPPER TRINITY OPPORTUNITY WATER DISTRICT. THE PARENT, REGIONAL WATER DISTRICT, AND THEN OBVIOUSLY DALLAS, AND SO MCKINNEY WAS ONE OF THE FOUR LOCATIONS WHERE PEOPLE COULD PICK UP THEIR PLANT BOX. UH, WE OUR FIRST YEAR WE HAD 500. WE COMMITTED TO SELL 500 PLANTS ARE 500 GARDEN BOXES, AND MCKINNEY LED THE NUMBER OF BOXES SOLD. WE EVEN BEAT OUT DALLAS AND FORT WORTH, WHICH I THINK IS VERY COMMENDABLE. AND ALL THOSE PEOPLE CAME TO MCKINNEY TO PICK UP THEIR BOX AND IT WAS EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL. THESE ARE SOME PICTURES OF OUR RESIDENTS PICKING UP THEIR BOXES HEADED HOME, TIO. PLANT THEM. THIS IS A MAP THAT SHOWS ALL OF THOSE DIFFERENT GARDENS PLOTTED IN OUR CITY. SO YOU KNOW YOU THINK ABOUT THAT FOOD DESERT IN THAT MONARCH BUTTERFLY, YOU KNOW, NOT ONLY DO WE WANT TO BRING VISITORS AND NEW RESIDENTS. WE ALSO WANT TO BRING RACHEL TO OUR CITY, AND THIS IS A GPS MAP THAT WE CREATED. THAT PLOT'S ALL OF THE LOCATIONS FOR ALL OF ALL OF THOSE GARDENS. IN TOTAL, IT WAS RIGHT AT 3200 PLANTS. UM FOR THE MONARCHS. WE ALSO HAVE OUR ADOPTIVE PART, ADOPT A PLANNED PROGRAM AND THAT WAS THE PROGRAM THAT WAS REALLY KIND OF STARTED BY ACCIDENT. MY ORIGINAL PLAN WHEN WE WERE GOING TO UNVEIL THE MONARCH SCULPTURES DOWNTOWN WITH TEO GIVE EVERYONE THAT ATTENDED A PLANT. BUT OBVIOUSLY WITH COVE, IT. WE HAD TO CANCEL THAT EVENT. BUT IN THE MEANTIME, I STILL HAD HUGS GREENHOUSE WHO HAD GROWN 150 PLANTS FOR ME, AND SO WE HAD TO COME UP WITH A DIFFERENT PLAN AND WE CREATED THE ADOPT A PLANT PROGRAM WHERE WE INVITED OUR RESIDENTS TO REGISTER TO ADOPT A PLANT COMMIT TO HELPING WITH THE MONARCH INITIATIVE AND PROVIDING CITIZEN SCIENCE AND EVERYTHING. THIS IS A PHOTO OF OUR DRIVE THROUGH EVENT. UH WE HAD 162. PEOPLE COME IN A THREE HOUR SPAN TO PICK UP THEIR PLANT. PEOPLE WERE HAPPY. THEY WERE SO EXCITED AT THIS POINT. MANY PEOPLE HAD NOT EVEN BEEN OUT OF THE HOUSE, SO IT WAS JUST A REALLY NICE. WONDERFUL THING THAT WE GOT A LOT OF POSITIVE FEEDBACK EVERY WEEK. I'M GETTING PICTURES AND NOTES OF THANK YOU STILL TO THIS DAY ABOUT THIS PROGRAM. THIS IS ANOTHER MAP THAT SHOWS WHERE ALL OF THOSE PLANTS HAVE BEEN PLOTTED. SO IT REALLY SHOWS THAT MCKINNEY IS AGAIN NOT ONLY A PLACE FOR RESIDENTS AND VISITORS, BUT FOR MONARCHS TO UM. THEN THE PUBLIC ART PROGRAM. WE'RE SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS PROGRAM WITH MAIN STREET. I WAS THRILLED TO BE ASKED TO BE ON THE SELECTION COMMITTEE AND WE RECEIVED. I THINK IT WAS RIGHT AT 50 DIFFERENT ENTRIES FROM ARTISTS WHO WERE INTERESTED IN PAINTING THE SCULPTURES. SCULPTURES HAVE NOW BEEN INSTALLED. THESE ARE PICTURES OF THE SCULPTURES. I DON'T WANT TO STEAL ANY THUNDER. BUT THE THESE ARE PICTURES OF THE SCULPTURES AND THEY LOOK BEAUTIFUL. WE HAVE A WEBSITE WHERE YOU CAN. VISIT THE WEBSITE, CLICK ON EACH INDIVIDUAL LINK AND LEARN WHERE IT ISTHE THES WERE ALL DONE BY LOCAL ARTISTS, AND EACH OF THEM REALLY HAS A STORY, TEO TELL ON WHAT WAS THEIR INSPIRATION ON THEIR PARTICULAR MONARCH. OUR PLAN IS TO ADD A MONARCH FACT TO EACH INDIVIDUAL POLE AND THEN OBVIOUSLY OUR Q R CODE WHICH WILL LEAD THEM TO OUR WEBSITE SO THAT YOU KNOW THEY CAN LEARN A LITTLE BIT MORE. NOT ONLY ABOUT YOU KNOW OUR MONARCH INITIATIVE RICHEST MONARCH CONSERVATION IN GENERAL, WE ALSO PARTICIPATE IN SEVERAL CITIZEN SCIENCE PROJECTS. THERE'S TWO DIFFERENT ORGANISATIONS THAT WE PROMOTE HEAVILY. JOURNEY NORTH IS AN ORGANIZATION FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN, AND THEY PLOT MONARCHS THAT THEY TRAVEL THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES. AND SO LITERALLY, YOU COULD GO INTO THEIR WEBSITE.YOU CAN REPORT HOW MANY MONARCHS YOU SAW, AND SO ON, AND THIS IS PLOTTED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE COUNTRY SO YOU CAN SEE THE MIGRATION HEADING TO TEXAS. ANOTHER THING IS MONARCH TAGGING, WHICH IS DONE THROUGH MONARCH WATCH, AND THAT'S WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS. UM.
IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE, YOU ACTUALLY CAPTURE THE MONARCH WITH ANNETTE AND YOU APPLY A VERY SMALL STICKER OF THE PICTURE ON THE LEFT. THAT'S FINE HAND AND THUS APPLYING A LITTLE TINY STICKER STICKER HAS A CODE AND YOU LOOK AT THE BUTTERFLY. YOU DETERMINE WHETHER IT'S MALE OR FEMALE, WHETHER IT'S PAUL FOUND OR WHETHER IT WAS ONE THAT WAS IN CAPTIVITY. AND YOU RELEASE IT. IT LITERALLY TAKES ABOUT 15 SECONDS. BUT AGAIN, IT GIVES
[01:35:06]
THE SCIENTISTS THEY'RE RESEARCHING MARKS A LOT OF VALUABLE INFORMATION IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE HERE IN THIS PICTURE THE PICTURE ON THE LEFT. THAT WAS A PICTURE THAT WAS SUBMITTED TO MONARCH WATCH ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 20TH. AND THAT WAS THE MONARCH THAT HAD CROSSED THE BORDER AND WAS IN SANTA CATARINA, NUEVO LEON IN MEXICO. AND SO WHEN THEY RESEARCHED THAT PARTICULAR GET TAG THAT MONARCH HAD BEEN TAGGED ON SEPTEMBER. 13TH IN CALHOUN, NEBRASKA. SO HOW COOL IS THAT? AND WE'RE EXTENDING THIS PROGRAM TO OUR RESIDENTS, YOU KNOW, GETTING A LOT OF FEEDBACK FROM FAMILIES WHO SAY, YOU KNOW, MY KIDS ARE GETTING INVOLVED. YOU KNOW, YOU NEVER KNOW THIS COULD PLANT THE SEED AND THEY COULD. TURN OUT TO BE A BIOLOGIST. THAT COULD HAVE BEEN SOMETHING COOL FOR RESEARCH. IT'S JUST REALLY EXCITING, ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING, BUT MONARCH TAGGING IS RIGHT AT ITS START RIGHT NOW. AH, A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE MONARCH LIFECYCLE AS YOU CAN SEE, RIGHT NOW WE'RE IN SEPTEMBER'S RIGHT AT THE FOURTH GENERATION. THESE MONARCHS ARE COMING THROUGH AND THEY'RE HEADED OVER TO MEXICO. THEY WILL STAY IN MEXICO THROUGH ABOUT FEBRUARY AND THEN THEY'LL COME BACK THROUGH IN MARCH. THERE ARE MULTIPLE GENERATIONS THAT MAKEUP THAT BUTTERFLIES. THE BUTTERFLY COMES THROUGH TEXAS LASER EGGS DIES AND THEN THOSE EGGS ARE HATCHED AND THEY KEEP ON GOING AND THEY MAKE THAT BIG, AMAZING. 25 2500 MILE JOURNEY.AND AGAIN, IT'S THE SIZE OF A PAPER. PARDON ME THE WEIGHT OF A PAPER CLIP. SO HOW AMAZING IS THAT? THAT WE'RE ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE? YOU'RE ABLE TO SEE THE LIFE CYCLE OF THE MONARCH.
YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY FROM CATERPILLAR ALL THE WAY OVER TO A FULL SIZED MONARCH. I'VE ACTUALLY FOSTERED A FEW OF MY HOUSE AND IT'S REALLY EXCITING ONCE YOU GET PAST THE LARVA STAGE TO WATCH A CATERPILLAR DEVOUR MILKWEED ON YOUR KITCHEN TABLE, AND THEN EVENTUALLY THE BUTTERFLY EMERGES, AND YOU PUT A STICKER ON IT AND RELEASE IT AND SEND IT ON TO MEXICO. SO.
THERE'S A LOT OF BUTTERFLIES GET MISTAKEN FOR MONARCHS. THERE'S MONARCHS OR SPY STORIES. AND THERE'S QUEENS AND THERE IS A DIFFERENCE, AND PEOPLE ALWAYS ASK ME ABOUT THAT. SO I INCLUDED THAT SLIDE. AAH! LOT OF FOLKS ALSO INQUIRE ON HOW WE TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MALE AND A FEMALE. AND IF YOU CAN SEE HERE ON THE LOWER LEFT A MALE HAS TWO LITTLE DOTS ON THEIR HIND WINGS, AND THAT'S HOW WE'RE ABLE TO TELL THAT THAT'S A MALE.
A LOT OF TIMES YOU'LL SEE THEM MATING, AND THEN THEY'LL BE LAYING THE EGGS. AND, UH UM, LATER ON. YOU COULD JUST THE EGGS ARE LITERALLY MICROSCOPIC. THEY'RE THE SIZE OF A PIN. BUT IF YOU KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR, YOU CONFINED HIM AND THEN YOU CAN HARVEST THEM. BRING HIM INSIDE. PROTECT THEM UNTIL THEY REACH MATURITY. AND YOU CAN RELEASE UH WE HAVE POSTERS AND BROCHURES FOR SURE DISPENSERS AT EVERY SCHOOL IN MCKINNEY WERE EXPANDING THAT TO SOME OF OUR DOWNTOWN MERCHANTS. WE HAVE FOLKS THAT AIR PLANTING MILKWEED FOR MONARCHS. HE MAY RECALL A COUPLE LITTLE GIRLS THAT. APPROACHED OUR SUPERINTENDENT A COUPLE YEARS AGO. SO WE HAVE SOME MILKWEED AT SOME SCHOOLS. UM OTHER THINGS. THE. YOU PLANTED PROGRAM INCIDENTS THIRD PHASE RIGHT NOW, AND WE'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO BE DISTRIBUTING PLANTS ON SATURDAY, BUT THAT PROGRAM IS BASICALLY A GARDEN IN A BOX. THERE'S A STILL A FEW LEFT IF YOU WANT ONE, SPEAK NOW, BUT THIS IS UNEXAMINED OF WHAT THE PLANNING DIAGRAMS LOOK LIKE.
IT'S REALLY A FOOLPROOF WAY TO JUST GET STARTED AND BUTTERFLY GARDENING. SOME PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO OR HOW TO DO IT, BUT ANYBODY CAN COLOR BY NUMBER. AND FOLLOW EASY INSTRUCTIONS, AND THIS HAS MADE SO MANY PEOPLE SUCCESSFUL IN MCKINNEY, YOU KNOW, IT'S LIKE I WASN'T A GARDENER, BUT I FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS. AND NOW I HAVE BUTTERFLIES, AND IT'S SO NEED TO GET THEIR REPORTS OF. WILDLIFE AND OTHER POLLINATORS IN THEIR GARDEN. WE HAVE A HUMMINGBIRD GARDENING SEMINAR COMING UP IN PERSON ON SEPTEMBER 29TH AT 6 30 AT THE RECREATION CENTRE, A TOWN LIKE. THAT IS OUR SECOND IN PERSON SEMINAR AS A RESULT OF COVE IT EVERYONE WILL BE IT JUST AT A DISTANCE, AND WE'RE GOING TO BE OUTDOORS IN THEIR BRAND NEW PATIO, SO THAT'S EXCITING. YOU CAN REGISTER ONLINE FOR THAT. I ALSO ENCOURAGE YOU TO SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR NEWSLETTER. YOU KHUN TEXT GREEN MCKINNEY TO 2 TO 8 TO EIGHT AND YOU CAN AUTOMATICALLY GET ON OUR EMAIL. LESTER, YOU KHUN! VISIT OUR WEBSITE. AND JOIN OUR LIST THAT WAY. I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME. I HOPE THIS WAS OF INTEREST. UH, THIS HAS BROUGHT A LOT OF, UH NEW GARDENERS AND NEW BIOLOGIST IT INTO THE PICTURE, YOU KNOW? I AM OFTEN TOLD AS AT EVENTS, YOU KNOW, I HAVE A BIG BUTTERFLY. BACKDROP AT MY BOOTH, AND THEY'LL SAY I CROSS THE ROOM T WHAT? YOU HAD TEO TO SHOW ME, YOU KNOW, TO TELL ME AND YOU KNOW, AS A RESULT, THEY'RE COMING IN TOW. LEARN ABOUT BUTTERFLIES, BUT IN THE PROCESS THEY'RE LEARNING ABOUT WATER CONSERVATION. WATERSHED PROTECTION RECYCLING, WHICH, IF I PUT A RECYCLING SIMPLE AURA,
[01:40:01]
SAVE WATER SYMBOL IN MY BOOTH. I DON'T GET MANY PEOPLE DIE. SO THE BUTTERFLY HAS JUST REALLY BEEN A WONDERFUL THING TO ADD TO OUR PROGRAMME THAT HAS, YOU KNOW, NOT ONLY HELPED US IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT, BUT YOU KNOW OUR OVERALL QUALITY OF LIFE CLASSIC CLASSIC BAIT AND SWITCH TREASURE. SO I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS IF YOU GOT ONE QUESTION AND ONE IDEA IF YOU'RE INTERESTED, THE $99 BOX OR THEY PERENNIALS, ANNUALS, YOUR CULPRIT AND THEY'RE ALL PERENNIALS, AND THEY'RE ALL GROWN. IN THE NORTH TEXAS AREA. THEY'RE GROWN IN DALLAS, AND THAT'S DONE BY AGRILIFE. THE MONEY GOES TO AGRA LIFE WERE JUST ONE OF THE FOUR DISTRIBUTION LOCATIONS WAY SERVANT, THE DISTRIBUTION LOCATION FOR COLLIN COUNTY. AND THEN THERE'S ONE IN TERRE IN DALLAS AND DIDN'T. OKAY? AND THEN I WAS AT THE LADYBIRD JOHNSON ARBORETUM AND IN BOSTON GARDEN. THEY HAVE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL METAL BENCHES THROUGHOUT. ALL SHAPED LIKE MONARCHS OR BUTTERFLIES. AND I TOOK SOME PHOTOS OF HIM FOR YOU.AND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU MAKE WORKING WITH AMY OR MIKE IF, AS YOU START TO PUT IN PARK BENCHES AND THINGS LIKE THAT. I DON'T KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE THEY ARE, BUT THEY'RE JUST BEAUTIFUL.
THAT WOULD BE A WONDERFUL ADDITION. AND THEN YOU HAVE BENCHES LIKE THAT, AND YOU COULD HAVE A LITTLE SIGN OR A LITTLE. BOX WITH BROCHURES BESIDE THE BENCH OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, AND IT'S REALLY NEAT AND IT'S REALLY, YOU KNOW, ART'S ALL PERSONAL TASTE EVERYTHING BUT THAT'S BEAUTIFUL. WHAT THEY'VE DONE, AND IT'S LIKE A KIND OF. LIKE A HOLLOW BUTTERFLY. SORT OF LOOK TO THEM. SO THAT ANYWAY, IF YOU'RE INTERESTED, I CAN SHARE THOSE PHOTOS. ABSOLUTELY I THINK IF YOU CALLED THE LADYBIRD MUSEUM, THEY WOULD KNOW WHO DID THEM. YEAH, THERE'S A THERE'S A COUPLE OF VENDORS IN THE AREA WHO WHO HAVE SOMETHING SIMILAR. I WILL SAY I AND I DIDN'T COVER THIS DURING THE PRESENTATION. WE ARE, UM. WITH NINE OUT OF THE 25 ITEMS ON THE ACT ACTION ITEM LIST WERE CONSIDERED LEADERSHIP CIRCLE AND THE NEXT STEP ABOVE LEADERSHIP CIRCLE IS CHAMPION CITY. AND UH, YOU KNOW, PERSONALLY, MY GOAL IS TO MAKE MCKINNEY THE FIRST CHAMPION CITY IN COLLIN COUNTY. I WISH I COULD SAY NORTH TEXAS, BUT FORT WORTH BEAT US TO THAT. I'M NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT THEY'RE DOING, BUT. ANYWAY, FORT WORTH HAS COMMITTED TO BE A CHAMPION CITY AS WELL. THERE'S ONLY THREE CHAMPION CITIES IN IN THE COUNTRY, ONE OF THE MISS SAN ANTONIO, THE OTHER ONE IS MACAU IN WHICH IS ACTUALLY WHERE I'M FROM. AND THEN FORT WORTH JUST RECENTLY COMMITTED, SO I WOULD LOVE FOR MCKINNEY, TEO TO TAKE THAT ON AND TO EXPAND THE PROGRAM. TO THAT LEVEL. IT WOULD REQUIRE A LOT OF DIFFERENT ORDINANCES AND EVERYTHING, SO IT'S BABY STEPS, AND I THINK THAT SO FAR THERE IS A. THERE IS A GROUP WEBSITE WHERE ALL OF THE COORDINATORS FOR THE FOR THE COUNTRY, YOU KNOW, ALL COMMUNICATE YOUR IDEAS AND YOU KNOW NOT TO SHOW OFF. BUT BY FAR YOU KNOW, MCKINNEY'S PROGRAM IS REALLY ONE OF THE BEST. AND WHEN I TURN IN OUR ANNUAL REPORT, ALWAYS GET NICE FEEDBACK FROM. THE FOLKS AT THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION IN D. C ON WHAT WE'RE DOING, BECAUSE IT'S SO UNIQUE. EVEN EVEN ONE OF THE COORDINATORS IN VIRGINIA WHO WORKS AT THE D C OFFICE, HE SOMETIMES SITS IN ON SOME OF SOME OF OUR VIRTUAL SEMINARS, WHICH IS REALLY KIND OF COOL. THIS IS JUST TERRIFIC OF YOU.
AND THE ADVOCACY THAT MCKINNEY IS DOING TO BUILD RESILIENCY INTO OUR CITY IN TERMS OF. THIE ENVIRONMENT SPECIES THAT ARE GOING THROUGH. YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT JUST THE MONARCHS THAT ARE DECLINING, BUT BIRDS, ANIMALS, SO MY QUESTION IS WHAT KIND OF ADVOCACY OR INVOLVEMENT ARE YOU ENGAGING WITH FOR HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATIONS? BECAUSE. YOU KNOW LIKE THAT, AND I'M THINKING THE FORT WORTH. CITY STUCK SORT OF THE STAR CITY MAYBE DUE IN LARGE MEASURE TO THE BOTANICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE, WHICH IS HEADQUARTERED THERE. AND WHEN YOU LOOK AT THEIR LANDSCAPING, IT'S VERY NATURAL. BUT MY HOMEOWNER'S ASSOCIATION WOULD NOT LOVE IT. IF I TURNED MY FRONT YARD INTO A PRAIRIE GRASS ENVIRONMENT, WHICH I WOULD LOVE TO DO. SO HOW DO WE GO ABOUT ADVOCATING. OR GETTING THE WORD OUT TO HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATIONS, TIO. YOU KNOW THAT PICTURE THAT THAT FIRST SLIDE YOU HAVE WITH WITH THIS RUBBERY AND NICE LITTLE BALLS FOR SAYS WHAT'S ATTRACTIVE TO WELL, I THINK IT'S BABY STEPS. AND I THINK THAT YOU KNOW WHEN WE STARTED WITH THE GREEN SEMINARS WERE TRYING TO EDUCATE OUR RESIDENT SO MANY RESIDENTS. OUR NEW GARDENING NEW TO THIS AREA, AND MAYBE I HAD ONE LADY SEVERAL YEARS AGO. TELL ME THAT HER HOME HAD BEEN ON THE COVER OF BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS, BUT SHE COULDN'T GROW A. BLANK
[01:45:01]
THING HERE, AND SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHY. AND THAT'S BECAUSE OUR SOIL IS DIFFERENT. OUR CLIMATE IS DIFFERENT, AND THAT'S WHY WE CREATED THE NEWCOMER EVENT, WHICH HAS BEEN HUGE FOR US.THAT EVENT IS HUGE, AND IT IS A GREAT WAY TO GO. COMMUNICATE WITH LOTS OF PEOPLE AT ONCE, BUT IT IS IT TAKES AN ARMY OF PEOPLE TO, UH TO. PUT THAT EVENT ON. LIKE I SAID, WE PARTNER WITH AGRA LIFE AND WE TRY TO EDUCATE OUR RESIDENTS THAT YOU KNOW, H ALWAYS DON'T ALWAYS HAVE, YOU KNOW, THE FINAL SAY HERE SOME INFORMATION ON YOU KNOW WHAT YOU COULD DO.
I'M WORKING CLOSELY WITH DANA RILEY IN NEIGHBORHOOD. SERVICES AND THERE WAS A PLAN FOR US FOR ME TO PROVIDE A GARDENING SEMINAR AT THE CONFERENCE THAT HAD TO BE CANCELLED DUE TO COVE IT SO. BABY STEPS. WE'RE WORKING ON IT, EDUCATING EVERY HOH IS DIFFICULT. WE DO HAVE SOME H ALWAYS THAT ARE A LITTLE MORE. INCLINED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM BECAUSE ONE OF THE PROGRAMS IS TO CREATE LIKE A. A COMPETITION BETWEEN A CHOICE BUT FIRST YOU GOT TO GET ALL THE H ALWAYS ON THE SAME PAGE. AND SO, UH, SOME OF OUR SUPPORTERS ARE MEMBERS OF THEIR BOARDS, AND THEY'RE TAKING THE INFORMATION BACK. THERE'S ONE PARTICULAR RESIDENT WHO LIVES IN ONE OF THE NORTHERN A CHOICE AND I CAN'T THINK OF THE NAME. I BELIEVE ITS HIGH POINT. I'M NOT SURE. UH, BUT SHE IS MAKING IT A POINT TO TAKE EVERY PIT PIECE OF INFORMATION BACK TO HER AGE AWAY AND SLOWLY BUT SURELY. SHE'S WORKING TO CREATE NATIVE NATIVE LANDSCAPE AND ALL THEIR ENTRY WAYS AND THAT SORT OF THING, BUT YOU KNOW, A CHOICE OR A HARD NUT TO CRACK.
AND SO IT'S BABY STEPS, BUT WE'RE WORKING ON IT. BOBBITT AND I BOTH HAVE, UM. BEEN PURSUING THE MONARCH STORED CERTIFICATION AND WE BOTH WENT THROUGH THAT TOGETHER, WHICH WAS REALLY NEAT TO HAVE A RESIDENT. BE A PART OF THAT NET SOME SPECIAL TRAINING FROM THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION AND SO. JUST EVEN HAVING A RESIDENT PARTICIPATE IN SOMETHING AT THAT LEVEL SHOWS THEIR YOU KNOW THEIR PERSONAL COMMITMENT AGAIN. WE WOULDN'T HAVE THE PROGRAM HAD I NOT HAD TO RESIDENTS WHO WENT TO MAYER FULLER S O. THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE BEHIND THE PROGRAM, AND IT'S JUST BABY STEPS. I THINK IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE WE BREAK IN WITH THOSE WAYS WE GAVE MANY H ALWAYS THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A YOU PLANTED PROGRAM. SOME OF THEM TURNED US DOWN. OTHERS DECIDED THEY WOULD PARTICIPATE. CRAIG RANCH PARTICIPATED, BUT OTHERS DIDN'T SO WE KEEP OFFERING THOSE OPPORTUNITIES AND AS MORE RESIDENTS GET INVOLVED AND COME TO OUR EVENTS. THEY WILL TAKE THAT BACK TO THEIR H AWAYS AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO BECOME A PART OF THE INITIATIVE. SO I WOULD ENCOURAGE ALL OF US TO APPROACH OUR AGE. ALWAYS IF WE'RE INTERESTED, AND I THINK THAT WOULD BE A GREAT START, EVEN IF THEY WEREN'T QUITE WILLING TO RE ADJUST WHAT THEY EXPECTED IN YOUR HOME, AT LEAST IN THE COMMON AREAS THEY COULD START THERE. SET EXAMPLES FOR HOMEOWNERS AND THEN SLOWLY WORK IT INTO WHAT IS ALLOWED FOR THE HOMEOWNERS. BUT I THINK THAT'S A GREAT IDEA TO TRY TO START WITH THE EYES AND AT LEAST GET THEM IN THE COMMON AREAS TO START. FITTING IN. YOU WON 30 SOMETHING OF THE NATIVE PLANTS WERE TRYING TO BALANCE OUT THE YOU KNOW THE MONO KURT CULTURE.
THERE'S SO MANY KNOCK OUT ROSES AND CREATE MODELS THAT WERE PLANTED AND YOU KNOW THEY LOOK GREAT, BUT THEY ALSO ARE VERY PRONE TO DISEASE, YOU KNOW, KNOCK OUT ROSES OR NOW. YOU KNOW, SOMEWHAT EXTINCT. IT'S LIKE THE CORONA VIRUS FOR PLANTS AND WAY OVERUSED. UM CREATE. WE CREATED MONOCULTURE. AND NOW WE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HIM, SO WE'RE HAVING TO BALANCE THAT OUT WITH OTHER NATIVE LANDSCAPING. AND I'M CERTAINLY AVAILABLE TO PRESENT ANY H OH, AY, THIS'S JUST A SNIPPET OF WHAT WE'VE DONE OVER THE LAST 2.5 YEARS. BUT WE DID HAVE A MINI FESTIVAL WITH. THE CHESTNUT SQUARE. WE'VE HAD A MILK WE PLANNING EVENT. WE'VE HAD LOTS OF DIFFERENT EVENTS THAT HAVE CREATED AH LOT OF MOMENTUM, BUT AGAIN, IT'S JUST BABY STEPS. AND I THINK FOR 2.5 YEARS WE'VE DONE QUITE A BIT. I JUST WANT TO SAY YOUR PRESENTATION WAS JUST AMAZING. I'M LIKE, HOW DID MISS OUT ON. I DIDN'T GET A BOX. YOU KNOW, THERE'S STILL TIME TO GET A BOX IF YOU WANT TO BOX. GREAT PRESENTATION. GREAT EDUCATIONAL MOMENT. WHO KNEW WHO KNEW? I DIDN'T KNOW. GREAT PRESENTATION AND THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION. SURE. THANK YOU SO MUCH. THANK YOU. WE HAVE ANY CITIZEN COMMENTS. AT ANY BOARD.
MENTS. SO WE'RE GOING TO ADJOURN TO EXECUTIVE SESSION TO EXECUTIVE SESSION IN ACCORDANCE
